Bobby Marks’ Denver Nuggets Trade Guide | NBA on ESPN

All right a happy Friday hopefully everyone is doing great trade guide video the defending world champion Denver Nuggets we are going to focus in on Denver uh we’ll talk about uh what they are dealing with going up into the trade deadline we’ve got a lot of great

Content out on YouTube a lot of we’ve got about eight or nine trade guide videos out there and we hopefully we’ll get to all 30 by the time the deadline gets here or before the deadline gets here Eastern Western Conference trade guides come out uh next week the week of

The 22nd East then West um everything you need to know Soup To Nuts basically I’ve Spilled Out my guts on uh Team content here so I hope everyone enjoys it here as I do we do these videos some are long some are short um you know some

I think are going to be short and then they turn along because I just ramble on uh Denver when you look at them and we give every team kind of a trade meter um one to 10 meaning 10 is the highest so if you’re Chicago you probably got a 10

If you’re Atlanta you got a 10 Denver we’ve got you at a one and it’s be a lot of it is because like what parts of this a what parts of this roster are you willing to change B you don’t have a roster spot and see you’ve built this roster so wisely as

Far as you know it’s it’s top heavy in contracts with yage Porter uh kcp and then Aaron Gordon and then you’ve got like 10 guys making $5 million or less you’ve made a conser You made a conservative effort at the deadline La not deadline at the draft

Last year to go out and you know trade your pick get a pick get multiple picks pick it um Tyson Strather three young players you’ve got uh Christian Brown you’ve got Payton Watson who’s been really good for you uh that was really my big concern when you lose Bruce Brown

And then you lose Jeff Green are the young players going to are going to kind of Step Up you’ve got Justin holiday you’ve got DeAndre Jordan you sign Zeke Nagi to an extension um it’s hard to go out Reggie Jackson sign that contract he’s on a $5 million contract who are

You going to you know package those players up to and why does it make sense because when you’re in the first apron like Denver is right now and when you’re in the second apron like Denver is going to be next year you need young players on controllable contracts as far

As that Baseline and if you don’t what happens is you’re going to see it in Phoenix you get a rotating door of minimum players here you get nine you have basically have to sign nine minimums every summer and that puts a lot of stress on your front office here

And that’s why Denver went out and and did um did the deal here but from a trade standpoint it’s going to be a challenge here because you’ve got 3 seconds available your picks are going out um it’s interesting as far as where where Denver is because they’ve got a

Pick going out to uh Orlando as far as that um Aaron Gordon trade in 25 they’ve got a pick going out to two picks going out to Oklahoma City um possibly 27 and 29 but there’s so much protection on there that doesn’t allow Denver to actually trade a first here um so right

Now heading into the deadline you basically have three trade exceptions you’ve got $7 million uh two trade exceptions at 22 And1 n $7 million in cash and no open roster spot and that presents a challenge here unless you want to start pack packaging some of your your young players and that’s what

That’s what you don’t want to do here and we’ve we’ve talked all about that all along here um as far as the apron goes couple house cup cleaning rules here how it impacts d Denver moving forward okay so starting on the first day of the offseason Denver will still

Be playing so it doesn’t ma impact them then Denver will not be allowed to send cash out in the deal Denver will not be allowed to aggregate contracts what does aggregate mean that means if um Denver wanted to package um Aaron Gordon and Christian Brown for a um 25 million two

$25 million player that is not allowed um all trades are dollar for dooll you’re not allowed to take back more money than that’s being sent out you can take back less here um I wouldn’t worry about the draft pick stuff as far as what gets Frozen that’s down the road

Here but as a as you can see there is a lot of teeth that are going to be that’s going to be com in Denver’s way and a lot of teams you know Boston Milwaukee uh the clips Golden State potentially here Minnesota um and as I’ve said

That’s a reason why this this bench is built with young young players and you have to hit on Payton Watson who I think could be a really good player and I think Julian Strow is certainly a good role player and where Christian Brown is um certainly a good role players and

Where you don’t have to do the minimum game um every year as I just said if there’s a trade out there like let’s just because we do have to do a due diligence you know certainly so Zeke Nagi signs this extension this rookie extension in the off season it’s a Team

Friendly deal based on it he has what is called a poison pill restriction and when usually when you sign an extension you have a six-month restriction that does not apply when it comes to players on rookie contracts what they have what they call is a poison pill

Restriction um there has been one player since 2008 who’s been traded who signed a rookie extension and had a poison pill and that was Devin Harris um went from Dallas to Brooklyn um so how it works with with Nagi okay for trade purposes okay 4.3 million is

Used as outgoing salary that’s the last year of his uh current contract is his fourth year of his rookie scale contract and 7.2 is um is for incoming salary for a team so if he’s traded to you know certainly if he’s traded to a team you know making you know5 or $6

Million that’s certainly manageable here but I think you have to be aware that that the number isn’t $4.3 million going out and coming in so there is a little bit of a and what we’re going to see here with poison pill players you’re going to see more of these type of

Players moved down you know down the road just because the rules have expanded from a trade from a a trade exception not for Denver because for right now they can only take back 110% of salary in a deal because they are over the um they’re over the first apron um they are uh

5.7 below the second apron that acts as a hard cap because of the Reggie Jackson signing um they’re projected to pay a franchise record $23 million uh tax penalty we talked about their draft assets here um but that’s kind of it and with with Denver and apply they went out

And did the um you know Thomas Bryant’s trade last year they signed uh Jackson after he he was bought out we are obligated for all of our content on espn.com for the trade guides to do one trade we would like to see uh mine is

Yage to no I’m just kidding mine is a 2026 and this this is not going to excite people but we have to do it 20262 to Memphis for Xavier Tilman gives you a big uh behind jic um guy that can kind of stretch the floor I do like the

Andre Jordan but here’s the problem and that works with uh they’ve got that bones Highland trade exception at 2 .2 million that works but here’s the problem who are you going to wave right are you going to um are you going to wave blacko conar who’s got a nice team

Option for next year at 2.1 million and is coming off that injury any deal you would have to go out and wave a player you’re going to wave Justin holiday I don’t I don’t who who I don’t think so depending on what you get back here so

Your options are limited oh forgot about this because I did a video before and it froze and I basically my intro was this is that you cannot trade for Bruce Brown okay because of where your contracts are right now you you can trade for him but you basically would have to trade seven

Players I’ve heard this um I’ve heard this um from Denver fans and even some people within uh ESPN said hey can Denver go out and guess Bruce Brown yes they can trade for him Bruce can be traded as long as his salary is not aggregated with other money however as

You look at Denver’s books how are you going to get within 110% of Bruce Brown’s salary it’s basically near impossible you basically have to trade like nine players and that is not going to happen especially when you’re uh faced with the hard cap so I did want to

Add that we’re at 9 minutes I said we’ do five never happens um but I did want to add that regarding um Denver as far as just kind of poo poo in that so that’s it with Denver hopefully you’re doing great and we will talk soon

  1. To be fair. Our Nuggets don't really have assets, contracts or picks to do something at the trade deadline.

All we can do is way for the buyout market. We do need a flexible C who can guard quicker players or switch screens. Sadly Nnaji sucks. DJ is too slow and old to guard the perimeter. We won't trade Julian,PWatson,Braun.

We got nothing to offer and Nnaji is on that poison pill contract. Our pick doesn't value nothing.

We are pretty much set with the roster and is gonna stay that way the whole season. The only way is by cutting Vlatko and open that roster slot, but i seriously doubt that gonna happens. The rest ain't expandable players. Starting 5,Watson,Reggie,Braun,Julian are off the trade market. The rest of the players hold no value for any team since they got 0 impact, contract value or fit any timeline

Hunter Tyson and Pickett got no value, haven't play much and contracts too free to cut.

  2. I know its not possible but i hope we can swing a trade for caruso😂😂. But we dont have any legit tradeable assets outside the starting 5. Hopefully bruce brown gets bought out and we resign him.

  3. Ooof i would trade nanji for litterally any 6'10+ bench player …. any …
I wonder what utah would want for olynuk

  4. Buyout market is only the place for denver. If their only pieces to trade is Zeke, Holiday then CB,Strawther and maybe Reggie to if they can sneak a great deal somehow.

  5. Hey Bobby, don't tell me I won't like the trade… because I love it. Xavier Tillman would be SICK on the nuggets.

  6. Let’s go rescue Bruce Brown from Toronto anyway. We run a 7-man bench in the playoffs so all good. 😂 Pacers did him dirty.

  7. STOP saying defending world champion. The defending USA and Canada champion. Deffending world champion in Basketball is Germany,

  8. I see a lot of comments saying get rid of MPJ. He’s a streaker shooter but overall he’s probably our best 3 point shooter (or Murray). Aside from last night, he’s played really well the last 5 or 6 games

  9. Returning all starters from a championship team is strong. Why would you break that up? Do you think the bench needs help? Did you think so last year too? It's a good thing none of you really have a team to run. You would ruin this one. Why do you think the Nuggets need help with building a roster when they just built this one? Let's see if they make a trade this year.

  10. Cancar returning next year could be a sneaky big “addition” next season. He’s the backup 4 small ball 5 the Nuggets need!
