ESPN Sources: The Knicks are filing a protest with the NBA to dispute the 105-103 loss to the Rockets on Monday. Both the NBA’s L2M report and crew chief Ed Malloy acknowledged foul call on Jalen Brunson leading to Aaron Holiday’s two winning free throws was incorrectly called.

Honestly, if I were Dolan I would have been on with Silver the second the game ended. Between the line movement, the foul discrepancy (especially given the points in paint), and then the final call, this game had “fixed” written all over it.

Has any of these protests work in the past? This one is easiest to remedy, just have the teams play OT on a random date but when was the last time they did that?

The fact that the head ref immediately said they fucked up the call gives me optimism

He said they fucked up and the L2M report supports us as well. If they don’t reverse it and give us a chance to get our lick back then there’s zero point in protesting because what else do we need to provide?

Good. Loss probably won’t be overturned but it will put the league on notice

    Incoming message from the NBA:

  6. This seems like the most obvious “overturn and play the overtime” decision. The crew chief immediately admitted after the game it was the wrong call and the L2M confirmed it.

If Adam Silver doesn’t overturn then someone needs to investigate what’s happening in the NBA because this is a no doubt case.

So what happens if they were to win the protest? Do they all meet up to do a 5 minute overtime or something ?

The call literally ended the game where the Knicks had no chance to tie the game, if the NBA takes protesting seriously this would be a protest they accept.

Sadly the nba don’t give a fuck and the protest will go nowhere.

All three refs last night deserve a pink slip

  9. datatadata

Good. We won’t actually get to play OT I’m sure but it’s more about the fact that we are officially protesting

  10. Affectionate-Tea9224

Glad the knicks protested but they have less than 0% chance of winning

  11. Hopefully they win the protest and play it when we get a healthy Julius, IHart, OG, and Blockness Monster back. DONT PLAY WITH US

Ed Molloy will never eat well in NY

Yeah there’s zero chance anything comes of it. It was an insanely bad call, but still human error. It’s really stupid that the NBA hasn’t implemented some kind of automatic review process though without challenging, to avoid that kind of situation.

I personally think the L is gunna stand but the team absolutely needed to file the protest anyway. At the very least it’s an opportunity to gain progress towards more accountability for referees.

Even if nothing happens, the Knicks, as well as every other team this happens to, needs to let Silver know that they’re not gunna take the bullshit and are willing to stand up to it.

    The follow up tweet:

`An NBA team has 48 hours to file a protest with the league office and five days to provide evidence of the protested action. After that, the league office has five more days to make a decision.`

I wonder what evidence can be provided other than “they already said it was wrong”.
For example, could the Knicks pay a bunch of PIs to investigate the refs? Maybe some in depth statistical analysis correlating shots in the paint to FTA?

  16. Too_Much_Soccer

    I didn’t realize there’s a precedent to play overtime

  17. H20onthego

People keep bringing up the line moving but neglect to mention that before tip-off lineups get confirmed. The line was -4 because there was a chance ihart was gonna play, and Sengun was gonna be out. The line dropped because both those things didn’t occur.

  18. Question regarding the betting side of this: what happens to the people who had the Rockets winning this game and got paid out? I’m assuming they get to keep the money? What about the people who had the Knicks winning? Do they get their money back?

  19. omarade2

Hoping they get to play OT. If not, I hope Dolan bans jacyn goble and ed Molloy from the stadium. If they show up to ref another game, have security throw them out for trespassing. Would love to see how silver reacts to that.

  20. Living_Internet_2970

    Nothing is gonna happen unfortunately

Has anything ever happened when a team does this?

For once I would like to see the nba be like ok we’re playing this again from that play

  21. TheBottomPilot

They should do this on principle.

But that’ll be where the buck stops, no doubt. Sucks, but the chances of the game being replayed and the standings being adjusted are zero.

  22. Living_Internet_2970

League will say that since there was some contact but not enough to affect the shot, that the protest is denied

  23. RyanHunter1991

Hell yeah. Let’s replay this when we got all the dogs back.
