I spent some time thinking about it before the game today, and the realization hit me: There’s a small part of me that thinks continuing watching these games will somehow manifest minute amounts of karma into my life, perhaps I’ll find five dollars walking to class, or meet some girl in the library. Will watching Clint Capela go 1-4 (2-8 today MY GOD) in 30 minutes earn me street cred with Jesus? Probably not. We need to suffer to exist, tank commander Dejounte Murray is teaching me these virtues. The path to enlightenment starts with watching the Pacers blow out the Hawks by 35 points in my first live game.
It’s helped me… ok well when they did the mod apps like 2 years ago, I said “getting to band together nearly every night is a bigger deal than most people would think, I don’t take it for granted.” I was still kinda enduring that isolation from quarantine so, even if just online, I was grateful for sense of community. But that also goes hand in hand with being overly invested, which is it’s own can of worms. Since then I’ve developed a few other hobbies – thus my relationship with basketball is much healthier. I’m writing this all down after hearing the news with Trae. I just wanted to share a little of me, if not just to remind myself why I put time in all this, and maybe help anyone else “distraught”, as distraught someone can be from sports lol.
Team-wise, I give it one more season. Trade DJ, Keep Dre, draft a big (Can Gueye be that guy?) and either trade or bench Okongwu, insert Kobe in the rotation, Jalen will be a 20+ PPG scorer next season. Trade Bogi, dump Clint. Keep Saddiq. Play AJ this season, get his value up, I think he has to go too. There is always a path forward bros. Remain devoted.
