ESPN reacts to Houston Rockets get an impressive 118-109 road win once the Phoenix Suns!

Such a wonderful guy always enjoyed our relationship so I want to ask you about the uh the speech that Amari gave tonight because in my book that was one of the best acceptable speeches I have heard in a long long time I I thought it was absolutely great I mean you know

Just the substance that he spoke with and uh and the sincerity I think that he spoke with it was right from the heart so uh thought he did a fantastic job mean to back into of the heart and and and the Phoenix rising and by oh my God

By the way by the way you weren’t bad either oh I appreciate that just well but really the line of the night was delivered by Alvin Gentry and he he kind of like was rehearsing it a little bit before so me and lb though but that was

Great you know again when it’s at halftime you don’t have as much time as if it’s postgame so you know what was the the instructions well they said you know try to say what you’re going to get out but make sure that it’s about 2

Minutes long and uh in my case they told me you have 7 seconds left boom that was it that was great love it talk about the honor of being able to honor Amari stmy too to be one of the The Chosen two you and Steve Nash well you know number one

I think he’s probably uh the most unappreciated Superstar I don’t think people realize what kind of player he really was you know when you when you have a series with Tim Duncan and you average 37 a game you know that that that is the measuring stick Tim Duncan he is the

Measuring stick so when you play play the level that Amari did in that series I thought he was absolutely fantastic and uh as Steve said doing his speech you know he plays with Reckless abandoned he fears no man he fears no he doesn’t fear anything and uh he shows

That on the court and uh the thing that I like about him is like you know he he’s he’s really transitioning into this really really unbelievable guy you know I mean Family Guy uh you know businessman and all of these things and has his own wine yeah

Entrepreneur yeah and and still in great shape too I mean if somebody wanted to sign a guy to a 10-day contract we talked about it in the pregame show he’s gone from 245 is playing weight when you were coaching him to 285 and is pure

Gristle yeah I had a lot more hair than did he still look good still it was a different color also I’ll tell you what Amore though I mean you look at these highlights you see the way he played we were here obviously during that era with him but did you see something something

Like every game that you were like like the stink face that Stefan Marberry had to had to had to show I think that he did you know we we we had that on the bench he always did something in the game that you know would just I mean it

Would be an eye open eye opening thing that you just you hadn’t seen before you know and uh he he he would do it time and time again you know it was just like it’s amazing the some of the plays that he had and uh and then you know with

Phil Weber who worked on his shot and he extended his range out a little bit he became Unstoppable he really did and what was your philosophy as a head coach when you coach a talent like that and you had different perspectives too because you were an assistant under Mike

Danton and then there was kind of those few years in between don’t want to talk about but when you took over I mean all of a sudden I’ll never forget you guys played the Clippers and I think you scored 130 in that first game 140 140

Man I undercut it yeah we had 140 a few times you know what you know it’s funny sorry to interrupt coach but he does the I I knew him like like I was in high school in Colorado and he was just fresh out of Appalachian State okay and we

Were I was going down there this skinny kid that didn’t know nothing playing against the nuggets and and he was one of those guys trying to beat me up and stuff like that but that was fun can you believe how many years is that that’s been uh I can’t that remember yeah yeah

So like 40 something years ago he was scoring 40 a game at was Aurora Central or and then I went to fview my last year back in the day he was he was working for Larry you know there in Denver what a great team they had too huh yeah they

Did but going back toari I mean your philosophy when you have a guy like that on your team and you obviously have other talent I mean you and Goran was just coming into his Zone and you got Nash and you know all sorts of weapons but definitely wanting to take advantage

Of Amari yeah I think the one thing and and you can see it now like with the Golden State team they very seldom call a timeout at the end of the game because you know we had Steve Nash he was going to manufacture probably a better shot

Than we we could had we had taken the time out and you know what and obviously the pick and roll with he and Amari you know there’s only one other tantrum I guess you could say and that was uh a guy named car Malone yeah John stock and

John Stockon but uh you know when you have really smart players and the thing about that team is that I think we had great chemistry on that team and uh you know we we we if we had that to play over again I I still think we would win

Man I do too I do too oh we with that rebound away from I mean I’m truly uh truly happy for him I think it was uh it was it was it was perfectly right done I think uh you know Matt has done a great job of

Transitioning his team to to new heights and uh to be present to watch him go up into the Raptors where he belong and uh you know I’m happy I’m truly happy for him so the Swiss army knife has has addressed too by by by Amari I love that man you know I’m a

Jack of all trades I do it all I like that you know what I’m saying everybody coming me on my look tonight everybody coming to me loving the pants car L car man Jack baby if I’d have been wearing that hat that Amari had on tonight I’d have been sweating through everything

I’d have been pouring down my head like that that’s only because you have few be drinking good I don’t know what you’re talking about oh man what did you we were talking to Alvin too but his speech just blew my mind I mean it was so well

Thought out it was so deep had so much substance and emotion to it so you know the the the ending was what got me like uh and like okay I I felt that you know when he said the heart of Phoenix and um I think that was that was a staple for

Me and uh you know I think everybody has their moments and stuff but that still out more than anything for me and um know I kind of felt that cuz it it made me reflect back into the to the fans and and all that stuff I felt I felt all

That energy so like you know um I mean that’s what that’s what makes that more genuine than anything when you speaking from the heart and uh you know and uh you can tell he was you know it it was there you know what’s cool is is well

First of all hanging out with all these guys get to see was like a reunion every time but what Sean went off and had some great years he won a championship in Dallas and Amari went off and had some great years and did this and that but

Now back here in the fold the heart here the Phoenix people needed to see them back here and understand what they’ve done for this organization CU you forget but then when you see these highlights you’re like who they were really really good it’s got to it’s got to be fun for

You to get back and see all this and and be in this fold once again so you know uh as you sit here and you reflect on our journey and our path that that led here led us to this point right now and I was sitting there talking to Steve and

Uh even Gentry and Mari was doing all this other stuff because that’s what happens in your night you busy you can’t exqu but I said I was trying to get guys to I gave something to think about like whether it be now or later be something have a great conversation down

The line if you can go back into time what would you change uh in the presence when we had that chance to actually win a championship What What In the game not not being traded or anything like that part of the business but doing that series if there is any one particular

Series or not what would you particularly change if you can go back and change to make an adjustment that you think that could Prevail us to win a championship and so when you when you start reflecting on the game itself you know my my my thought process about the

Game is is on a whole another level when I think about I can so I I was able to do things a lot of guys couldn’t do that’s why I was you know able to be top and stills in my reaction times and all that stuff so like but when you able to

Pinpoint certain things and you can reflect on on that our journey and our path in the years that we was uh just so fight what they say we was rock stars or whatever but if there’s one point or one series especially close out series that

We had that we lost in if you can go back and change anything what would you change so that’s that’s that’s how deep this game is and and I’ll sit back and reflect on it because you know it’s easy to to sit about what could have been but

If if you could go back in time and change that doing that run while we at it while we’re what would you change oh man yeah there’s a lot and especially for you guys players but for you Sean it was a little over two months ago that you went into

The Rings you went back home Texas I think you’ve been traveling around as well D I’ve been on a Non-Stop go since but now you come back here to footprint center right for the first time walking in you’re like there it is there’s 31 what is Amari going to be feeling like

In a couple mon or the next time that he comes in here and what were your emotions when you came back for the first time so you know what I I wasn’t even focusing on my jersey I was focusing on Mari tonight and that’s all

About him and I can honestly say I I saw mine but I was waiting to see his and that’s that’s that’s the anticipation and stuff when you come in here and like of course you know coming back here in the essence of this Arena and stuff you

Know uh America West Arena you know not yeah yeah so uh uh so like it it’s uh it’s so many memories that pass through your mind and stuff and somebody actually test me to a mural I guess it’s a mural they put in Matt put it in

Somewhere around here it’s a mural here out so so uh I mean listen man you know you can sit here and and and say there’s one particular thing but it’s not though you know when you when you Su up your career and you sum up your legacy and

What you’ve done to this game and and the things that and so many Milestones I hit and so many things I’ve done and accomplish to this game that you can’t never sum it but I’m here supporting my my teammate right now and um it’s uh uh just it’s it’s just uh right timing

Things happen certain things you know I’m saying you you kind of wish they happened earlier but some for some reason things happen when they meant to happen and uh you know that’s a it’s a part of the journey and it’s a process you know I I contemplate a lot of

Different things I be I’m a I’m a very Ken and honest person when it comes to certain things so that’s I’ve been drinking I’ve been drinking a little bit we’re running behind and so Perfect Fore don’t go Back Spee w For For for spee speee speech E foree speech for going aband for [Applause] for for foree
