Out three key pieces of the Miami Heat team and this specifically the Miami Heat offense we all thought the same thing oh crap because for some reason and it’s not specific to this team this year but this team is continuing a long Trend over the course of the last couple

Decades of Kings basketball for some reason when the Kings take on a short-handed team they fall flat on their face like I said this has been an issue for a while with this organization but it’s especially been infuriating with this group this year especially considering the games that they’ve won

Right less than 24 hours ago the Kings defeat the Los Angeles Clippers a hardfought physical game inside of crypto.com Arena a massive win for this Kings team a win that I thought maybe could wake up ignite and spur a second second half of the Season run to get

This team ultimately into the playoffs now that’s still very possible but it’s very Kings or maybe more importantly it’s very kangs of this team to follow that excellent win up one of their most complete complete performances up with another dud of a performance a loss at

Home to a short handed team the kings are telling us and showing us exactly who they are it’s they’re they’re tough to explain they’re tough to understand but they’re consistent with who they are when it’s a big game against a really good team more often than not this

King’s team is going to look their best and play at their best but especially when they are at home against a team that they know they are better than a team they should blow out of the water talent-wise or a team that is missing a significant amount of talent like the

Heat word tonight the Kings just continue to fall flat on their faces and not look like the same team this is who the kings are right this is what this roster is and it’s time that we just have to accept it now that doesn’t mean that we are okay with it right it

Doesn’t mean that we are acceptance is not okay it’s just they are who they are type thing whatever we don’t have to worry about it just put up with their shortcomings right accept this is who they are and accept this is how they’re going to be but don’t accept it as them

At their best or don’t be okay with it there’s a very fine line between that and I might not being be doing a good job of explaining what I mean or or or that perfectly clear but just this is who this king’s team is right now I

Don’t know how that’s supposed to make me feel for games like these next two big games against the defending Champion Denver Nuggets who the Kings have beaten three times or the Minnesota Timberwolves who one of the best teams in the west a team who the Kings have already beaten in Minnesota this season

In fact they were the first team to defeat the Timberwolves in Minnesota this season maybe I should feel good about those maybe I should feel good about when the Kings do get to the playoffs hopefully avoiding the playin they will perform because they’ll be taking on a good team and they always

Play up and play well against good teams maybe I should feel that way but we’re not just talking about individual games we’re not just talking about winning a playoff series and and and playing better against a team that is better than you we’re talking about this team developing and building into a contender

Establishing a culture and culture is a word that we’re going to talk a lot about in this podcast in just a little bit because we hear so much about heat culture this heat culture that tonight’s game was also not surprising from a heat perspective either because Eric spola

Pat Riley the Miami Heat find a way to get the best or get a lot out of their rotational players Mike Brown and the Sacramento Kings cannot stay the or say the same again we’ll get to that but before we get to that I want to talk about that surge that the Sacramento

Kings had in the fourth quarter they’re down by 20 points things look Bleak all of a sudden the Kings step up with a major defensive intensity Mike Brown dear and fox both pointed out the Kings switched to a Zone in the fourth quarter started getting deflections got stops

Got steals got out in transition and they hit four straight three-pointers one by Kevin herder and then three straight by Keegan Murray suddenly the Kings explode and are within four or two points ultimately it doesn’t matter the the heat call a timeout the Heat come back out of that timeout they’re they’re

Composed and they end up winning this game hitting some big shots and and closing the door on that Sacramento comeback are are Kings fans supposed to feel good about that that fourth quarter surgers now it was fun to watch right the the golden one Center was rocking at

That point super loud there was great energy like here come the Sacramento Kings awesome what a fun moment but it’s to me even more frustrating that comeback is even more more frustrating because we know the Kings have that in them and they can do that for more than

A two three or four minute stretch in the fourth quarter when you’re down by freaking 20 points why does it take a desperate hole that you need to climb out of to play that way because a surge like that a run like that on your home floor should be putting you up double

Digits and slamming the door on your opponents a run like that should be securing a victory not barely getting you back into a game where you’re down by 20 points like it’s not that hard to explain the Kings start getting deflections pick up the defensive intensity they get stops which leads to

Transition opportunities we know how good this team is in transition offensively their defense creates one of their biggest offensive strengths and it gets them right back into the game amazing why does it take until the fourth quarter why does it take when you’re down 20 points at home to a

Short-handed team that you should be beating in a freaking Western Conference playoff race where a loss tonight dropped the Kings back from 5ifth to sth in a game as important as this a kind of got to have it game especially with the upcoming two games that you have at the

End of this four game stretch of Doom why does it take until late for the Sacramento Kings to wake up and play that way it doesn’t make me feel better it shouldn’t make anybody feel better sure the final score is a little more respectable but in reality the kings in

The second half particularly in the third quarter they got their ass kicked they did now they surged in the fourth quarter they came alive gave themselves a chance you appreciate that they didn’t quit but to me that’s like that’s a consolation prize that I don’t care

About I don’t care about excuses I don’t care that it was the second night of a back-to-back this is the third game that the Kings have played since having a week off right I don’t I don’t care about excuses and to me like the Kings being the Kings and continuing this

Trend like it’s not acceptable again you can accept that this is who the kings are as a team and and and I think it’s going to take changes to the roster and changes to Sacramento’s culture and continued growth in that area for the Kings to

Kind of break out of this rut that has plagued this organization for the last uh last two decades but it’s not okay for Sacramento to continue these Trends to play poorly in meaningful games when like I’ve talked about a lot over the past couple weeks Sacramento’s safety net is

Gone right they have used up they are in debt at this point with their bad home losses they’re gone and they have some home games coming up later which we’ll get into some big home games coming up against teams that they absolutely should be beating that based off of how

This season is gone Kings fans might be more concerned about and maybe should be more concerned about those games then the next game against Denver or the next game after that against Minnesota this King team is confusing now when it comes to Mike Brown I brought up heat culture

Mike Brown was out coach tonight now in the grand scheme of things is it terrible to say Mike Brown was out coached by Eric spola who’s an absolute Superstar head coach gonna be a Hall of Famer head coach one of the greatest head coaches in NBA history in the grand

Scheme of things no it’s not that big of a deal to say Eric spola out coached Mike Brown but again heat culture right Pat Riley SPO hlam Wade like the Miami Heat have built this culture to where whether it’s it’s a star out or a role player out or whoever it’s next man

Up guys Step Up play hard play the right way and give themselves opportunities to win any game against any opponent I suppose if you want to look at things as as a glass half full I suppose of all the teams that you’re going to lose to this season that are short-handed I

Guess the Miami Heat is is one of the few that you could feel okay about now the circumstances of this playoff race make it a little less okay but if if that’s the way you feel like I wish I could borrow some of that optimism from you I’m not necessarily feeling that

Right now but how do the kings build their own version of heat culture I asked Mike Brown about that after the game and and and I didn’t word the question very well and you’re going to hear how I worded it cuz I didn’t mean like hey take the heat culture copy and

Paste it and put it in Sacramento but how do the Sacramento Kings develop and build their own culture where they play the right way they play hard and they play consistent and they can get guys to step up because spola can get multiple I mean the the heat for God’s sakes had

Six players scoring double figures tonight with three of their main offensive weapons out six players scored in double figures as a team they stepped up when they were short-handed how do the king how does Mike Brown how does Monty McNair get the most out of his

Roster get the most out of his role players the same way that heat are able to consistently that’s how I should have asked the question but here’s what I asked to Mike and here’s what he said Mike we hear a lot about heat culture and guys just seeming to to always step

Up and and play well in big moments for spola and and just that group over there from the king’s perspective how do you build that culture and your own organization is it possible to replicate what the Heat have built and what does it take I guess to to get there in your

Mind uh no you can’t you can’t replicate it you I mean because you got to have your own culture in my opinion it’s hard to uh do the same thing that somebody else is doing uh but the the reality of it is from top to bottom um they believe

In toughness and they believe in playing hard and playing the right way um they’re they’re not looking at offensive numbers they’re looking at defensive numbers how you compete and how tough you are and then they’re trying to develop those type of players and put them on the floor and and you know um

You know it started with Pat Pat’s still there and you got spoler there too and that’s a really good combination especially when you have guys like Dwayne Wade that are Main Stays that come through there Udonis hasl them because once you get it from within and

You have the Buy in from within uh from your main guys um the sky a limit because everybody else that comes along and joins that team they’re going to have to follow their lead if they don’t they’re out they don’t care what they shoot from the three they don’t care how many points

They score it’s all about playing the right way playing with toughness supporting your teammates and um that’s what that in my opinion from the outside looking in that’s what that that’s built on now if I can respond to what Mike said there really quick I I I’m not

Trying to put words in his mouth so so listen to me very carefully when I tell you like I’m I’m not saying that Mike is is just blaming the players and not taking ownership upon himself but what what I took away from that answer from

Mike Brown is that a lot of it is very Personnel based right like I mentioned the Heat have had coaches general managers and more importantly leaders in the locker room players who have set the expectations set the foundation and held everybody on that roster accountable and if you aren’t willing to

Do that if you aren’t capable of playing the the heat style of basketball buying into that heat culture you can get the hell out regardless of how good you are in other areas right so my if I had an opportunity to ask Mike a follow-up question it would have been our Fox and

Sabonis owning that King’s culture that you’re trying to build and are they holding everybody else to that standard and the other part of that is clearly if the kings are struggling and continue to struggle in games like this against short-handed teams clearly not everybody is bought in or everybody is capable to

Of buying into the kind of basketball that you want to be playing the culture that you’re trying to establish so while I don’t think Mike Brown is directly saying it’s Personnel based and we don’t have the Personnel we don’t have the players to be able to have a culture

Like the Miami Heat have I think to some extent what he’s saying there is we’re trying to establish something and we need to go out and get more guys or or the Kings need to go out and find guys Monty McNair needs to find guys this offseason and plug the right pieces in

Around Fox sabonis Keegan Murray to some extent that core of players who is going to embrace that culture and handle or or hold everybody else accountable the Kings just don’t have that yet that’s why this roster is what it is that’s why this Kings team is what it is because

California but to see and we got to see him also as well in the the California classic to see how he played tonight right how he stepped up we talk about heat culture but also for a rookie to step up and play as poised and solid and

High IQ basketball as haime hawz JR played tonight especially in in the fourth quarter his second half was incredible but his fourth quarter he had a couple of big moments he had a move that completely froze Damon sabonis to score a big bucket while the Sacramento

Kings uh were were putting on their run like Hae Hawk is JR just stunned me tonight I thought he was absolutely brilliant and another great case for why having players that spend a lot of time in college and come out of college late and join the NBA even as a little bit

Older of a prospect that does not mean that they are wor wor than that 18 19 20-year-old kid who is a oneandone freshman at Kentucky or wherever right not that there’s anything wrong with those players the Kings have plenty of them on their roster but those older rookies Keegan Murray is another example

Of that right these players that come in and are more NBA ready physically NBA ready mentally and can make positive immediate impacts to winning like haime did tonight and like Keegan Murray does to the Sacramento Kings did last season uh and does consistently as a soft we’ll

Get to Keegan in a second but Hae tonight 26 points super efficient 12 of 17 from the field also had three steals I just I was blown away by haime hawz Jr absolutely loved what he did and also fair play to haime and fair play to the

Miami Heat because I don’t know if you saw on social media but the heat posted like a heat wind graphic and it was a video of haime pulling a plug and then the beam shutting down which a lot of teams will have their own fun with the

Kings beam and changing it to their their own team color or or whatever turning it off or no whatever they have different uh they have fun with that in different ways but I I love the idea because a lot of those videos that you see the videos in the arena of players

Like doing trivia games and firing up the crowd and stuff that’s all handled the same day it’s all handled during media day right they go to different stations they do all their photos they do their interviews they record all those segments and stuff it’s all batch recorded at the beginning of the season

And then they use it all season long so I love the idea idea that the Miami Heat had haime hawkz Jr record himself pulling a plug in front of a green screen specifically for beating the Sacramento kicks if that’s the case I wonder if they use it for anything else

If that is the case Fair freaking play that you you went to that much effort to put a post up that control a team that isn’t even in your conference that you play only two times a year I’m not even mad at it I freaking respect it so that

Was kind of a fun thing that we saw a postgame even though it was at the uh at the the detriment of of the Sacramento Kings but Keegan Murray Keegan Murray looked like a superstar tonight he did we saw it on both ends right the defensive impact that Keegan Murray’s

Made he had 28 points tonight 10 of 14 from the field six of seven from three-point range five three rebounds three steals like defensively he was solid pretty much the entire night Duncan Robinson really struggled offensively tonight he did a good job Distributing the ball I think he

Finished with like eight or nine assists something like that and I thought Duncan Robbins Robinson coming into the game was the guy that was like okay that’s someone who can explode offensively and really make up for Jimmy Butler’s absence and Terry roer’s absence and Tyler Hero’s absence no Duncan Robinson

Didn’t score the ball very well a lot of that had to do with the fact that Keegan was guarding him for the first part of this game and then Keegan ended up being switched on to haime hawkz junr and other players later on and there were times quite frankly where Keegan got

Beat like fair play a couple players just beat Keegan defensively period that being said Keegan played the solid defense consistently tonight that we know he’s capable of playing and then he exploded offensively especially with that three-point shot that he established and was known for as a rookie last year his three straight

Threes during that Kings push in the fourth quarter were Sensational like that is like that right there epitomizes to me like the absolute Max potential of Keegan if you can capture that stretch in a jar and spread it out consistently over the course of an 82 Game season

Plus bringing into the playoffs over the course of a 10 to 15E career Keegan Murray is going to be a really really really really really good player in this league and if he can do that the way he did tonight more often than not maybe the Kings do indeed have an All-Star

That they believe they had when they drafted Keegan in the first place I don’t know if I’m ready to go there yet as much as I love Keegan Murray he still has to show consistently what he can do on the offensive end if he wants to reach Allstar status but Keegan Murray

Played like a star tonight the two best players on the floor other than bam a bam played really really well we’ll talk about him in a second but haime Hawkin Jr and Keegan Murray I thought put on an absolute show tonight and I know the Kings lost but the Kings still have to

Feel very very good about Keegan after a night like tonight and you’re damn sure that the Miami Heat feel very very good about haime hakz Jr uh with the night that he had but let’s talk about the big man battle right Damon sabonis tonight another triple double 14 points 14

Rebounds 10 assists his 21st triple double of the Season he’s now had I think three straight triple doubles which is incred incredible he played 40 minutes tonight on the second night of a back-to-back dear Fox played 38 so shout out to your your stars shout out to your

Main guys like physically handling the the load of minutes being played on on back-to-back nights you appreciate them for that but what I don’t necessarily like is that damont sabonis only took eight shots only eight shots over 40 minutes like this is where if if sabonis has critics it’s about his ability to

Score and on nights like tonight I I’m not saying that sabonis was making the wrong plays and I think a lot of this also has to do with bam ao’s physical defensive Presence at The Rim changing some shots and making things a little more difficult for sabonis down low but

I I I need more scoring from sabonis in a game like this where other guys are struggling and the kings are trying to battle for a win at home because even though even though sabon has had another triple double we don’t take that away from him but I have

No problem saying it you know me I will I captain like defend a sabonis captain sing sabonis his Praises right it’s almost obnoxious actually it’s not almost it is obnoxious how much I I I I talk about damont sabonis and how much I sing his praises and make sure that what

He’s doing is known and appreciated because outside of Sacramento for some reason it is not but I got to be consistent tonight damanda sabonis was outplayed by bam AIO across the board right even though sabonis had a triple double and Bam AIO did not bam finishes

With 28 points 11 of 18 from the field 10 rebounds seven assists two steals he made an impact in all areas of the game and specifically he stepped up as a score as an offensive threat and helped set the tone for Miami offensively again on a night where they were missing three

Impactful important offensive pieces bam AIO stepped up to the plate tonight hit some huge shots had that ridiculous possession early in the fourth quarter where the Kings played like 23 seconds a really good defense knocked the ball out of oto’s hands like two or three times somehow he kept possession of it turns

Around flails one up from the elbow to beat a shot beat the shot clock and it goes in like it was just a really really really good night for bam aabo and again I’ll make it perfectly clear bam aabo outplayed Damonte sabonis tonight and that’s another big reason why the Miami

The Clippers to some extent you might be right that being said it’s truly not the end of the world it’s not not remember I go back to my podcast episode from a couple nights ago and if you haven’t listened to it I encourage you to listen

To it I broke down the Kings Road to the playoffs and in that breakdown I broke the rest of the season into three parts survive which is the part that the kings are in right now that four game stretch against the Clippers the Heat tonight

The ma uh the magic excuse me the uh the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday and then the Minnesota Timberwolves I believe on Friday survive that four game stretch go two and two over that stretch then you have the the strike stretch which is all those home games that long home stand a

Lot of winnable games both at home and on the road during that stretch and then the final one is secure which is games like backtack games against the Dallas Mavericks where you can win those games and really secure yourself hopefully as a playoff team a top six seed in the

West as the season comes down to an end well we’re still like I said we’re still in that survive portion you’re halfway there to your your goal which is go two and two right normally going 500 is the bare minimum expectation and to some extent it’s still is but if the Kings go

Two and two over the stretch I don’t think they can feel bad about that at all as long as they handle their business in the uh the the the the strike portion of the schedule coming up but maybe honestly maybe after a game like tonight you’re more nervous about

The strike portion because again it’s filled with games that in theory the Kings should be winning on their home floor on the road against teams that we know they’re better than but look at what the Kings keep doing look at what the King Kings keep doing in those games

Or should I say look what the Kings do in those games right I understand if that’s how you feel but it’s one step at a time you got two games one against the Denver Nuggets one against the Minnesota Timberwolves win one go and get one of them hopefully it’s the Denver game so

You don’t have to have that much stress about the Minnesota game if you go one and three during this stretch again it’s not the end of the world but it just makes everything else harder it just makes your wiggle room that much smaller it’s already pretty minuscule as it is

But it it brings it down to a sliver of nothing or nearly nothing at this point the Kings just don’t have a lot of wiggle room but let me ask you this how do you think the Denver Nuggets are going to come out on Wednesday I’m very curious about that

Because on one hand like the Nuggets know that they’re a top team in the West the nuggets are defending Champions they know what it takes to get there they know what it takes to make a deep playoff run I know that a regular season loss to the Sacramento Kings or four

Regular season losses to the Sacramento Kings is not going to be the end of the world to them and seem as dramatic and seem as big of a deal as it is to us if we said oh my God the Sacramento Kings swept their four game season series

Against the defending champs that’s fun for us to say maybe it’s not going to mean that much to Denver that being said I do think there’s a lot of Pride involved I think the Nuggets know that losing four games to the Sacramento Kings doesn’t look great especially for

The defending champs right and also this is the Time of the Season where every team but especially established Championship caliber teams are trying to start to Gear Up ramp up hit uh hit their Stride start playing their best basketball so they go into the playoffs
