Helpless & Undermanned, Raptors get BLOWN OUT by Pelicans

The Toronto Raptors get blown out in one of the most predictable outcomes of the season. Despite hot shooting to start, the defense could not keep pace without Jakob Poeltl and Scottie Barnes, not to mention Bruce Brown jr who missed his second straight game.

Kelly Olynk and Ochai Agbagi entered the starting lineup and both showed why they were most often used off the bench in Utah, and RJ Barrett in particular really struggled to do anything of merit on either end against a Pelicans team which got to the paint and got open shots all night long.

  1. Ass contract given to kelly, i hope year 2 is a TEAM option. Ochai and kelly for a first while you’re still on the hook with the spurs.. i dont know about that masai. But this is our team W/o scottie? And yall wanna not tank? We have no compelling players minus scottie. A bunch of okay dudes imo. I know its a lot of money to give up and nobody has but if im scottie id consider the qualifying offer next summer.

  2. It is more of a front court issue imo but still this roster is janky man. I dont like so many guys in the grand scheme gtj jak rj ochai. I hope we go for guys like kalel ware or tyler smith. We need so much.

  3. Honestly not overly upset about Kelly contract. It was a bit of an overpay but what it does is show they have a direction in mind and a plan to stabilize the roster and provide this young core enough to compete on a nightly basis. And having the right vets can be hugely beneficial I think he like temple will more then earn his contract just from off the court contributions. It’s going to take time for things to shake out and for some of these young guys to figuire it out and having a guy who is emotionally and professionally mature to help weather some of the downs as well as maintain a consistent professionalism during the ups will be essential to create a atmosphere of growth.

  4. One thing nobody seems to consider is darko saying he’s had conversations with Chris. At this point, maybe he knows there’s interest from other teams but they didn’t want to pull the trigger during the season.

What are the odds Chris has even said that at this point 7 minutes during garbage time and meaningless games isn’t worth a potential injury that could derail next season? He’s been healthy for the most part his entire career so I almost wonder if he’s ok with not playing at this point ?

    Who knows .

  5. Last few games have been painful to watch.. Scottie going out was obviously.. yeah huge bummer.

I try to find the silver lining, and for me it is an opportunity to see some of these other guys get extra development reps. Ever the optimist part of me even believed they could rally for the play in without Scottie (super unlikely admittedly, I sure wouldn’t bet money on it).. not looking so good. The Pels defense was fantastic gotta say, and not not gonna lie I love Gradey but I rewound that Zion steal and dunk a few times..

The NBA is just ridiculously talented right now. I’m not sure if it was the defense forcing bad shots, or what, but the casual eye would be tempted to say the Raptors are still not trying to find optimal ways to score enough.. like you put together four possessions in a row with really bad floater attempts and wild looking layups in coverage, miss all of them, and it feels like the other team just automatically hits two corner threes, a layup, and a dunk .. suddenly you’re down 10
