Joe Mazzulla: Celtics Will LEARN From Loss to Nuggets | Postgame Interview

Joe Mazzulla: Celtics Will LEARN From Loss to Nuggets | Postgame Interview

Did you think of uh the way you guys are able to fight back there down the stretch and get back in the game after things look like they’re starting to go sideways early in four yeah I mean it’s especially against a team like that to

Be able to uh battle back and make plays uh you know I think it’s important and uh team showed a bit of resilience and uh you know I think when you play against uh another great team uh those 10 to 12 possessions are super super critical and uh I thought Denver did a

Great job at taking advantage of those uh better than we did tonight you know y just able to get in De the post over and over again you guys have to decide where and how to send help how difficult is that decision especially when Gordon’s able to get everything he wants yeah I

Mean it’s a difficult decision only because of all the other stuff and so when you’re making that decision that you look at uh you look at the turnovers you look last time we played them we only had two turnovers we had 12 tonight you look at the points off turnovers you

Look at the Miss free throws uh you look at you know that that right there so uh it becomes difficult because you put pressure on some of the other things and then when you’re in that critical moment you just have to make the best decision possible so um but that’s that’s the

Lesson tonight is uh you know just those those things uh taking care of the basketball our offensive execution which leads to their transition defense and uh you know got to the free throw line just didn’t make them I don’t know if You’ been asked about Jason but he just didn’t seem as

Aggressive what was going on he’s kind of s in the corner he was passing a lot me he had to turnover he was passing a lot like what was going on with him did you see anything different than normal um no I thought he was just taking what

The defense gave him he did it I mean Jaylen had a tremendous game I thought uh the matchup with Chris STS were able to take advantage of that so I thought he was just doing what he thought the game needed at that time you know what did you think in particular

The way Jayla was able to get downhill against them seemed like they were trying a lot of different stuff and it wasn’t one yeah I mean I thought he answered the Bell as far as the offensive physicality and the ability to you know get to the free throw line and

Uh you know the ability to finish through contact there so uh that’s the type of physicality that’s needed and you know I thought he brought that on both ends of the floor and when you talk about some of those like 10 to 12 possessions in games you guys had a

Couple two-on ones three on on especially where you let possessions get away is that when you go back and look at a game like this against an elite team are those kind of things you’re talking about yeah I mean it’s you can pinpoint you know I’d say even 15 to 20

Possessions you got the uh the Murray 3 at the end of the quarter uh we gave up another basket at the end of the quarter I think there you got a couple two-on ones where you give up live ball turnos I think our seven half our seven first

Half turnovers were all live ball which led to them to be able to get out I think they had eight points there so uh every detail matters there when you’re you know you’re playing against another great team and they were able to take advantage of some of those margins there

But um so that’s the stuff that we’ll learn from but you know we had uh 13 offensive rebounds got to the free throw line uh for 25 shots and uh you know so we had some good things there as well you you know after kind of reviewing the

Last time you played you felt pretty good about it uh what’s kind of your your takeway from this same I mean you know like you said it’s just it comes down to uh those those possessions are magnified and uh when you play against two great teams uh they bring the best

Out of you and they bring opportunity you to learn out of you and an opportunity for you to learn from those and uh so they presented that for us tonight and uh you know I feel good about where we’re at and what we need to work on what are some of the big

Challenges trying to neutralize a guy like yic you can do as much as he can yeah I think kind of Jared was talking about is his ability to get the ball in the paint and with the shooting and the spacing that they have and uh the offensive rebounding presence that

Gordon brings it puts you in a bind in a close game as to what you’re willing to give up with thought our guys did a great job kind of changing uh matchups there a little bit and changing the coverage we got a couple stops we had a

Chance to take the lead with 40 seconds left it was a one possession game and uh we had a wide open shot it was a great shot and uh we just didn’t make it and they you know they even gave us an open one with uh you know I think 12 seconds

Left down four gave us a wide open three there and um so we had our ch chances and you know when you play against another good team those things get magnified what did you like in the match up that MIT t uh just a switching in the

Murray minutes we switched a little bit more uh in the first half we didn’t do it as much in the second half but uh just his his ability to switch uh you know and guarding the perimeter Joe you emphasize closing quarters strong what broke down especially I mean that that

Murray one was you know it’s a tough shot I can’t remember what the other one was um the B shot the first half yeah that one I think that came off with turnover yeah so it’s just it’s the correlation between offensive execution the transition defense and ending the

Quarter there so uh you can take it the Mis free throws to turnovers and then like four uh Five Points at the end of the quarters those things add up against Great teams thank thank you all right uh

DENVER — Celtics Head Coach Joe Mazzulla reflected on the challenges of facing the Denver Nuggets, saying, “We had our chances, and when you play against another good team, those things get magnified.” He acknowledged the heightened intensity and scrutiny that comes with competing against top-tier opponents like the Nuggets.

  1. That Philly scheme that they used by keeping Joel on Denver's nonshooter and allowing him to free roam in the middle is the key to slow Joker down just enough to win. BOS will implement that in the Finals. No worries here.

  2. The only way for the Celtics to go to another level is for Basulla to be strong with his players, to gain attitude. Like Spoltra in Miami.

  3. you could feel it when the celtics stopped making 3's the nuggets ran up the score, never felt afraid of the moment the entire nugget bench was positive +/-

  4. You suck man Celtics are jokers man Tatum and brown doesn’t have mentality to bring championships to Boston Joe is not the answer

  5. Any above average Coach can duplicate the Celtics success this year. JOE MUST GO. The Celtics are just wasting our time and insulting our intelligence With this Coach.

  6. Non-celtics fans really should stay with their own teams💯 Fkn clowns🤡🤡 Dont even kno how to play basketball let alone coach otherwise they would be on a championship team!!

  7. Nuggets and Celtics team's is two different paths. One the core players & coaching staff has been together the longest chemistry and knowing each other with a developed play book matters! Denver have this core since 2021 while Celtics displayed for all the changes they been through they have a ways to go still. I hope as well he just didn't want to show his hand too early in going to their curve balls. Jo Mazzulla best be finetuning his plays roster lineups and ensure his team learn from this game film and be super efficient! Tatum needs to learn to playoff KP & Derrick more he doesn't always have to be the controller of the game. Empower Derrick to be the Game Manager like Jamal is empowered. I want to see more Derrick & Kristaps with JT in that dunker spot, Jrue roaming better! JB clean up FT% with Jo being better at reading the other's team plan and throwing the opposing team off their plan!

  8. I wanna see each and every one of you fake a$$ fairweather fans when we do win the championship💯 I bet my life savings not a SINGLE one of you will have anything to say🍀🍀

  9. Boston is no where near the Coaching and skill of Denver. I’m fully convinced Boston will not win the chip this year.

  10. Comparing Jokic basketball IQ with JT is like comparing an ant with an elephant…one is a master and the other is a great scorer…not enough to win big titles.

  11. I don’t think this is a big deal at all. I knew this road trip would be tough. But the Celtics will be fine. I’m not sure the nuggets bet the clippers tbh. It’s still a long way to go

  12. 14 losses in the whole season and the haters come out the woodwork. Joe is an excellent coach, he’s dedicated to the craft, has rapport with the players and he’s always always working. He also is a man of Faith and character. I like coach Mazulla!
