Tomer Azarly on Ty Lue speaking about the lack of mental toughness

Tomer: Maybe it’s a good thing they’re hitting this adversity now and it’s all a part of the grind of 82, but these quotes about mental toughness from Tyronn Lue last night were… alarming.

>“Good teams are going to make runs. It’s about how you deal with it… When teams make a run, we can’t just give in. They played tougher than we did, for sure. No doubt. It pisses me off when it comes to that. Just being mentally tougher, just mentally tougher. When shit — stuff — gets hard, you gotta get tougher. Those are the things we gotta do. We can talk about schemes, we can talk about a lot of other things, but we just gotta be tougher, mentally and physically. Gotta to be better.”
>
>Reporter: “Is this a group that is mentally tough?”
>
>“Yeah, I mean we’ve shown mental toughness. When things don’t go right, you just gotta get tougher. If we can’t score, we can’t let them score. It’s okay. It’s part of the game, like we did in Minnesota. That was mentally tough. We scored 89 points and win the game. Yeah, that’s fine. However, you gotta win, win the game. It’s not about shots, it’s not about minutes, it’s not about whatever. It’s about winning the game, however you gotta do it. And so we have shown that, but tonight we didn’t.”

He see what we see. I would be alarmed if he was cool with it.

The main problem with the 213 Clippers is they’re a jump shooting team. When the jumpers don’t fall, you get what happen last night, very similar to what happened in Game 7 vs the Nuggets in the bubble.

We really went from being the number 1 seed in the western conference to now worrying about being overtaken by the New Orleans Pelicans. I’m sick.

  5. Bulls are playing overtime against pacers in indiana right now and somehow im expecting bulls to have more energy than us lol

  6. PG has to be better. Point blank period.

I think Harden is doing a fine job in his role. When he got traded here this is exactly what I expected. I knew that he was past his prime in terms of elite scoring ability but his facilitating has been a good addition.

PG has been extremely disappointing. Idc how good his on ball defense is. His rebounding is terrible, he is constantly out of position on defensive rotations, extremely suspect ball handling and passing, and a super inconsistent scorer. He gets paid way to much for this type of play.

  7. This is our fkn coach man. All you ppl shitting on Lue, he sees exactly what we see. Hes not the type to call out his players like other coaches but Lue is getting sick of this shit too. Our team or should i say our stars are mentally weak. Kawhi goes out and our 2 remaining stars that should lead us to a win gets shit on. Call em out coach.

  8. Clippers should just be down 20 every first half. It’s the only time they show mental toughness.

He’s the coach. He needs to give direction. Far too many times this season the Clippers have looked lost out there. When they know what they are doing, they look great and confident, and of course mentally tough.

Kawhi needs to share his mental toughness with this dudes smh

Speaking of mental toughness, Zu was uncharacteristically a mess on defense last night. Normally he is our best defender keeping opponents at 45% FG, but he allowed Minny 73% of FGs.

Nobody wants to see it. Nobody wants to hear it. Nobody wants to speak it. Nobody wants to admit that Steve Ballmer is funding the most elaborate retirement tour in NBA history right here in Southern California…for a bunch of guys that are from, wait for it: Southern California. They’re home and loving it. It’s like a dream come true.

Good callout, but Ty not helping either with his piss-poor coaching. Random substitutions, inability to point out and counter gaps in defense (for instance last night, Gobert set a bunch of basic screens where the shooter kept getting shit room to take open shots, and our guys just never adjusted to them, and everyone just bizzarely kept leaving Walker open despite him being red hot all night), and was unable to call timely timeout and hold his main guys accountable. Hell even adjustments in offense were lacking. The Harden/Zu PnR was stifled by Gobert? Well what can they do instead?
