I need you to give me an unbiased opinion. ( I know this isn’t the best place for this). What is the correct call and the foul that should’ve been called here?

I’m a rather new fan and can’t really judge it for myself just yet. And there seems to be a bit of controversy in the comments. I need you guys to help me.

Honestly I think Wemby closes out a bit too aggressively and when Luka starts to drive, Wemby slides into him to try to cut him off which is a blocking foul. Luka does wrap around with his off arm shortly after but I think the initial call for the foul on Wemby is correct. Wemby’s leg getting in the way of Luka’s drive is unfortunately further proof that it’s a foul on him. Can’t block a driving player with your leg.

It was an offensive foul. Charitably, the referee can’t see the hook. Not so charitably, the NBA has changed its rule set so much in the last few years that almost any sort of contact where the defender is even briefly moving is called on the defender, even if that is space they are currently occupying. A defender should be allowed to move their feet and contest. This would have been a non-call in a previous era or more of a 50-50 call because Doncic is the one who keeps pressing into Wembanyama’s space. The hook is a 100% offensive foul.

Anyone saying that this isn’t a blocking foul on Wemby first is wrong.

I was surprised people were complaining about that call. I thought the refs obviously made the right call, Wemby was sticking his knee out

Looks like a standard sort of call that’s only really talked about because of the time in the game that it was called
