POSTCAST – Luka Doncic carries the Mavericks to 8th win in last 9 games over Utah Jazz

A much improved Utah Jazz performance as the veterans return ball movement pops but Luca donic controls all things that dictate winning Jazz fall to the Mavericks we’re talking about it on postcast you are locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz part of the locked on podcast Network your team every Day David along with Ron budas the Utah Jazz looked way better a very entertaining game and then went five minutes without a field goal in the fourth quarter fun game Jaz scored 41 points in the first quarter after uh only scoring 27 on the Mavericks and they actually made the

Same amount of shots Saxton had 11 in that first Jazz had 11 assists on 13 field goals and let’s just stop there for a second run because the ball movement tonight was just so much better than it has been recently especially in first in in in the first half I mean

They had a number of lobs they were breaking the paint they were making an extra pass and you know go back to shoot around this morning and and how they were really worked a lot on executing their offense and you know you’re going to have dead spots in in a game uh it

Just as will points out just don’t make those dead spots as long as they did tonight well they did such a good job because the Mavericks had no run that was more than 60 all game long actually neither team did until they finally had that five-minute dead spot offensively

It mat Lowry marking up with 20 by halftime the Jazz led by as many as eight led the game at the half by the score 66-61 the Jazz had 18 assists on 23 buckets at the half then in the third Lowry went bananas as he had 33 to lead

All scores Mavericks did uh turn 11 uh uh had a few little runs in that but the Jazz were able to hold it the Mavericks um donic had 10 points in the third as he but this was the best loud remark him back healthy nailing threes and just really playing with a great

Deal of juice in this game yeah and got up 19 shots he had a great percentage um and and I thought he ran the floor a couple of times really really well and you can just see David that he makes so much difference in the game for for the

Jazz in the production of of the Jazz as far as how many points they can score uh the type of shots that they’re getting we have to respect you know his long range shooting and then as Scott said before the ball game that him and Jordan Clarkson creates the spacing that that

The Jazz need so but then in the fourth quarter Lowry scor just one point and a lot of isolations a lot of one-on-one plays for him and I think we saw where his next stage of development still has to come yeah if he’s going to take over

A basketball game but you know you you got to get it you give me the ball and and let me uh let me let me go to work um another area for him is you know you get double team finding the open man fourth quarter Jazz had five turnovers

And they really just had a sequence of bad possessions Johnny juing ends up taking two threes I like the aggressiveness but probably not necessarily the spot where you want him taking those shots uh Jordan Clarkson who played very very well had great ball we’ll talk about him Knight did turn it

Over once and then had kind of I don’t know if it’s a turnover a shot or what it was Keon with a sloppy pass to Colin saction that goes out of bounds then keante I think had another turnover in there at go tending that became a jump

Ball or block shot became a jump ball in the go five minutes uh without a field goal and that was the difference in this game yeah you know it’s not a lot you can you I can add to that the fact that you know those dead spots is is um limit them to

One or two minutes the Jazz had five minutes as you pointed out and all of a sudden you know they end up losing about 13 points what happens in those five minutes Ron Lowry leaves the game as part of it yeah turnovers um and bad possessions uh and and again late clock

Uh possessions are are not good for the Jazz especially if L is not on the floor um I really like the way they played in that first half good execution pushing the ball up the floor uh getting into their offense and and you know you just that extra two or three seconds

Late in the clock is so valuable when you can just make things happen early you know the one thing that jumped out to me a little bit there was one possession that really really jumped out to me Luca has been dominating he comes up the floor of the offensive end he

Literally spends the entire possession just holding his shorts K basically signals to Kyrie like it’s your turn I’m tired yes Kyrie misses we go down the other way they get crossmatched and Luc is now guarding low marinin and they didn’t get him the ball and we didn’t

Get him the ball we didn’t even like come close to running an action for him or anything to get him the ball and those are the kind of possessions that Will’s talking about will Hardy’s talking about where you you’ve just got to have some better recognition of what’s taking place

And the Jazz do a lot of that they watch films and try to correct things through film work um and there’s another possession I thought during the course of the that fourth quarter there as well where I thought that Colin seon tried to put off a a shot in traffic there

When Jordan Clarkson was wide open on the same side of the floor for a three-point shot there in the corner probably would have made a big difference I think that would have brought him back into the two points down or something like that and you know

Then all of a sudden you you end up 13 down the overall story though from the Jazz standpoint we’ll touch on Luca here in just a second is that they just Jordan and Lowry’s presence put everyone in their rightful a little bit better rightful spot Keon trying to lead this

Team is the number one guy just it was it was almost getting painful to watch it was just too hard Taylor having to take a large role bright like when you had those two guys on the floor suddenly everything felt a little bit more natural like guys were in the spots they

Can be and things they could hand handle the assignment that they they had been tasked with you got veteran players out there on the floor helping young guys out that that’s the bottom line right there when when those two guys are out you don’t have that veteran leadership

Uh you don’t have that guy that you trust to the point where that that can make a play and and you know and right now Kean is really struggling not he’s struggling shooting but he’s also struggling running the team there as well yeah he looks he looks pretty

Overwhelmed at times right now the game is super fast on him got who gamees not fast on is Luca donic and we saw Dallas at full display I mean there’s a possession where Luca’s isolated right side and they’re spaced out perfectly and Luca hits a nitzki step at I don’t

Know what you do they’re they’re playing a two-man game with him and Kyrie on the left side of the floor and Kyrie pops you so you got to go to him until Luca drives and like the only guy back is a big man and he’s going to lob it to

Gafford if you leave and then if you don’t if you bring two guys to Luca then they’re rotating to Kyrie well now you got to rotate to Kyrie and they’re two Shooters I mean they they they have that thing figured out late in games right

Now Luka is not afraid of anyone no he doesn’t think anyone can guard him and I totally agree with him no one can guard you he figures you out and he’s going to get to his spots and and he’s going to score I hate the fact that well he’s

Having to play 40 something minutes the ball game lot will that run him down with started of the playoffs he’s been playing a lot all year I mean Jason kids have kind of been doing this all year with him yeah and and and that’s that’s

A lot of minutes and then the guard line there David with what’s that 56 points with the guard line 55 Point uh shot attempts between the two both of them had 10 field goals uh that is the offense so far in this ball game they’re going to need some points or some guys

Off the bench as you mentioned that’s more reliable than than uh Tim Hardaway even though he was five for 11 three for nine from the three-point line they’re going to need that one one extra player it’s going to be interesting to see what happens you know I was talking to some

People in the Mavericks and their com was hey we went to the Western Conference Finals with Dorian finny Smith and you know like and Reggie Bullock like these guys are better than them but we’ll see if they are I mean yes in a sense PJ Washington’s a much

Better player but he’s also shot 26% from three since he’s gone to Dallas and in a sense you know Tim Hardway is a better player but he’s got to be able to make shots I mean at some point when you’re playing with Luke and you’re playing with Kyrie Your Role is actually

Pretty simple it’s hit wide openen three balls and maybe Dorian finy Smith and Reggie Bullock are better in that but it will be it will be interesting to see what happens there because I I look at this team as though and we’ve seen Jason kids a great playoff coach I look at

This team as though it’s going to be a really really difficult out for someone in the playoffs in fact I would not be surprised at all I said this the other night before a game if this is a Western Conference finalist team the only thing that the downside of this team if they

Can take away the dunks from with uh Guilford Gafford Gafford um because that’s where he gets all of his points U then centers that take him away from the basket and they have to and can shoot threes I just wonder what’s going to happen you know there obviously he

Probably had to do it when he was playing with Washington but I don’t know it’s that’s why the playoffs are so interesting you matchups are everything spacings everything I just this league is is all about scoring yeah I just don’t know I mean on the defensive end

He’s guarding the rim on the offensive end I don’t know how you take those dunks away because Luca’s driving yes and if you don’t come to Luca you don’t come to Kyrie like they’re scoring so it it’s kind of pick your poison for both be interesting to see I mean Dallas

Finishes with an offensive rating of a 120 tonight Jazz actually offens by the end of the night kind of fell short as it has a few times three-point shooting still one thing is finally someone did not go crazy three-point shooting against the jazz tonight Dallas went 12

Of 42 shot 29% there are not a lot of by the way this would be one that would point to the Mavericks being a real playoff team there are not a lot of wins this year for teams that have shot below 30% from three you shoot 30 % from three

Below 3% from three you don’t win very often and they won tonight all right star me up ronon well I don’t think there’s any doubt we know that lri marinin is definitely a star and I’ve been going back and forth between John Collins and maybe Colin seon but I think

I’m going to go with John Collins tonight you’re not giving Jordan Clarkson any love for his 0 for seven performance shooting no but the eight assists no okay Jordan did not make a shot tonight which is just like crazy that he didn’t make a shot tonight he

Did have eight assists which I’m super proud of him the five turnover is probably not great um you who’ you decide John Collins or Collins John Collins John John Collins 21 and 11 tonight uh he had a big three late finally got us off the schneide a little

Bit on the offensive end uh and the jat Lowry Markin and John call hey well that’s oh maybe she was just repeating what she said that’s what Lacy said oh okay or after you said it that is postcast tonight thank you very much for tuning in we greatly appreciate it the

Uh Saxton has 41 stars and Lowry has 40 and so the most exciting thing for the final 10 games of the Season or nine games whatever we have who will lead the team in Stars by the end of the season we now send you to the first ever

  1. They have dead spots because they keep avoiding the hierarchy . You guys go away from sexton sooo much and have clsrkdom and George running the offense. How is the most consistent guy not trustworthy ?

  2. Key is the greatest player in jazz history he shoots 30% from the field averages 6 turnovers and plays zero defense I love this kids game should be roy no nba mvp

  3. Dead spots in fourth. No one wanted to step up. There are no killers on our team. We need a guy that can get a triple double every night. Frustrating ugghhh
