When ‘Betting On Yourself’ Goes Wrong…

When ‘Betting On Yourself’ Goes Wrong…

This is jont Porter and he plays for the Toronto Raptors I guess I should say played because he’s probably not going to be on the roster much longer I mean he’s on the roster as the recording of this video but probably not for long because uh it definitely seems like

Either he was betting on his own player props or having someone else do it for him he’s currently under investigation for what is being referred to as multiple instances of betting irregularities over the past several months and there’s two specific games that the league is looking at on January

26th and on March 20th where there were definitely some suspicious circumstance ances for Porter now this is especially interesting because he’s the brother of Michael Porter Jr and someone that a lot of basketball fans are aware of there were pretty high expectations for him in

College and then once he came to the NBA and this is the first season that he’s actually gotten real minutes in the NBA but in terms of you know betting on his player props there shouldn’t be a ton of interest in jonte Porter props on a night toight basis he’s definitely just

A role player his numbers are pretty low however the reason that this is getting looked into is because on the night of January 26th and on the night of March 20th there was a lot of interest in betting specifically the under on jonte Porter player props so much so that on

Both of those nights the 26th and the 20th respectively jonte Porter under player props were the biggest winners of the entire night now at this point you’re probably wondering why I’m showing you random highlights on screen well that’s because the games in question January 26 March 20th there

Aren’t really any highlights to show because he came out of the game after just a few minutes played and of course hitting the under on all of his props in January Porter played just four minutes before leaving the game for an aggravation of an eye injury that he had

Suffered a few days before so of course all the unders hit just because you leave due to due to an injury in a game doesn’t mean that the unders are not going to hit and so those cashed out and then March 20th same thing they’re playing the Kings 3 minutes into the

Game he leaves the game due to an illness and all of the unders hit I’m talking points rebounds made threes everything and again there’s more bet on these games and these player props specifically one than there ever really should be on a random role player in two

Than you would ever expect for someone of this stature which of course is going to raise some red flags now as the recording of this video this is obviously all speculation and it’s it’s entirely possible that jont Porter did actually suffer a legitimate reag grav of an injury in the first game and

Actually have an illness in the second game but the thing that of course that makes all this suspicious is the amount of money that was being placed on a prop that should not be getting nearly as much attention as it was I mean Jon Porter is by no means a big name the

Raptors are a terrible te that nobody really wants to watch right now and it’s it it’s definitely random to get these kinds of amounts and that was why this was a red flag in the first place and based off the investigation it’s pretty clear that what they’re looking at here

Is that either Porter himself or someone affiliated with him was told to bet the unders in these games and then Porter was going to go out there and either not perform particularly well or is what it seems like just leave the game early which of course if you’re trying to make

Money on player props is is the best way to do it you don’t want to try bet on the overs and then hope that the guy plays well hopes he puts up a ton of shots and then maybe gets pulled from the game you bet the unders and then the

Guy says oh I’m not feeling well or oh my eye hurts and then he leaves the game again all speculation at this point but the dots are definitely connecting here and this is a pretty unprecedented situation for the NBA and one that they definitely are going to have to handle

The correct way because in this new world where sports betting is legal in a lot of states and it it’s becoming a big deal not just in the NBA but for other sports where athletes are are betting on sports this is the first one at least

That I’m aware of in the American you know professional sports betting space here where a player is presumably again this is all speculation either betting on or having someone else bet on themselves and then actively making sure that those bets win that is a massive Integrity issue for the NBA it’s one of

The reasons why they have all these things in place to try and catch these kinds of irregular activities and if they do confirm that this is what was happening that he was leaving the game on purpose that he was having or at least telling people to bet the under or

Betting on them himself or whatever the case may be this is probably a lifetime band that jonay Porter is looking at in the NBA it’s unlikely that he’s going to be able to play professional basketball anywhere ever again certainly not in the NBA but then at this point I don’t know

Why another league would want to employ him uh as a professional basketball player either and this is probably it for his career I mean I know that might seem extreme to some people but this is an issue that the league has to continue to deal with and they’re going to have

To continue to deal with over the next few seasons and they quite frankly they have to make an example out of this kind of situation they cannot have this this is a massive issue for them this is a massive directive for the NBA by the way to continue to add Revenue through gambling

They have they have pushed it they’re going to add it to to league pass to be able to have that as an option to be able to bet on player props live player props in the middle of a game through the League Pass App this is a huge you

Know function of what the league is going to look like over the next couple of seasons and in partnership with that they have to make sure that the Integrity of the games on a night toight basis is not impacted by in this case presumably a player or people affiliated

With a player at actively betting on player props and then making sure that in this case the unders hit now I’m not trying to say that this is a common situation or that this has happened before that it’s going to continue to happen because this is definitely a unique situation Porter’s uh player

Salary for the year is about half a million dollars which is a ton of money but it’s it’s right in that sweet spot where like he’s got enough money to to to bet a ton on these unders but also you know certainly motivation to try and make more money he’s definitely has some

Interesting uh you know interest outside of basketball is into crypto and and a lot of different stuff so this I think this defin a a unique situation and one that all the you know everything just kind of came together here to create a semi-perfect situation for for Porter

Specifically to be the guy that this would happen to because it’s unlikely that anybody apart from these you know third party services that the NBA employs to to monitor these things it’s unlikely that anybody would really notice this a ton um it’s only two different games that this happened in at

Least that we’re aware of at the moment it’s not a big name at all um and just leaving the game after a few minutes is not that that noticeable and the only thing really that allowed them to notice this and recognize this was the large Wagers that were being placed on what’s

A very random underplayer prop to be placing uh money on but even if it’s if it’s a rare situation as something that’s unlikely to happen again it’s something the NBA cannot afford to happen again they cannot afford for the Integrity of the league to be questioned

On a night to night basis and again I truly think that they are probably going to make an example out of Jon Porter and I think he has played his last NBA basketball game and who knows maybe you think that that is Extreme maybe you

Think the Porter is going to get a year or twoyear suspension whatever the case may be but I just I just find it hard to believe that they’re going to go easy on him I find it hard to believe that a team is going to want to employ him

Again after this I mean you’re you’re just constantly questioning the motives of someone like this in in an NBA game that he would be willing to uh you know disrupt the Integrity of the game that he would be willing to potentially throw his entire basketball career away um not

Just in terms of like if he gets caught but also you know this is not like this is someone that is established in the league right and if you’re intentionally playing poorly or leaving games early on purpose uh you’re certainly not doing yourself any favors in terms of

Establishing your place in a league continue to try and uh you know make a name for yourself and potentially you know earn uh More Money More contracts a bigger role in the team um and it’s a massive risk for for a guy that again is

Still trying to kind of make a name for himself here they’re going to catch you right they’re not going to just allow this kind of stuff to happen they have a ton of protocols in place they have they have all these different third parties and and and and employees that their job

Is to make sure that this kind of stuff doesn’t happen and they’re going to notice when there’s these massive amounts on these random player props they’re going to notice when a guy’s leaving early and the unders are hitting and and it’s the the biggest winner of

The entire night and granted I mean they only it’s at least as far as we know this this group or Porter himself only did this twice they spaced it out they tried to do it as subtly as possible and still got caught and I I just think that

There’s just no way that the NBA is going to let this slide there’s no way that they’re going to allow this to continue to be a thing and it’s it’s a sad situation on one hand because his basketball career is almost certainly over but also was just um poor decision-

Making and just a really interesting situation to look at because of how it appears that at least that you know the increased presence of sports gambling in the uh professional American Sports and specifically the NBA is being impacted here uh or the NBA itself I say I should

Say is being impacted by that increased presence

Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors is under investigation by the NBA, and could end up with a lifetime ban.

  1. One way that the different betting services could stop this from happening would be to eliminate the unders. It is much more difficult to achieve an over and therefore I would definitely make it more difficult for someone to just check out of the game before they reach their stats. Betting services being what they are there's no way that they would do this but they should think about it.😊

  2. I don't think it would necessarily be a lifetime ban. All of the league's seem to handle these things about the same way and the NFL gave Calvin Ridley a one-year suspension. I think that was for just betting on football and perhaps he didn't bet on himself so that could definitely make it a more severe penalty but I think maybe 2 years then.

  3. It would be interesting to go through other games this season and see if there are any other irregularities with Porter. I'm betting that he probably tried a small bet before going in with a larger one. They will be able to trace the account that did the bet or bets and figure out if that person crossed paths in any way with Porter
I'm betting that he thought he was pretty smart and probably had a degree or two of separation but they will figure that out. They're going to put extreme heat on somebody and somebody will crack..

  4. This isn't much worse than sports betting in general. NBA might as well let players bet on themselves and play accordingly.

  5. So did he fake an injury or play bad enough in a short amount of time for the coach to pull him? It seems like it would be tough to control how much he played unless he faked injuries or he purposely played badly enough for the coach to yank him.

  6. If the Raptors medical team can prove that his injuries were legit as well as his illness then what? Unless the NBA has Jontay's phone or a phone connected to Jontay making the bets, Jontay texting with people concerning the bets or money transfer evidence connected to Jontay it's all just circumstantial evidence. Also, the NBA promotes gambling on social media, during live game broadcasts, in various other ads… the NBA is gambling just look at the refs visibly calling games to favor Vegas betting lines one way or the other. Gambling is an addiction just like alcohol, crack, meth, heroin. If guilty, Jontay should seek help and the NBA should aid him in his rehabilitation and re-instate him after he goes through a rehab process.

  7. Why would he not be on he roster much longer? Ja is still on the Grizzlies after waving a gun around. Josh is still on the Thunder after sleeping with underage girls. Now we're gonna castrate a guy for gambling? In a league we're gambling is heavily promoted?

  8. So you're promoting sport gambling on your channel but also complain that sport gambling is hurting sports? 🙄

  9. Naw bro if he gets perma banned from NBA for this we gotta have a massive protest. Josh Kiddey is still running rampant every game he attempts to find children to bring back to his house everyone’s okay with that? JA was waving a gun around and he only got 25 games and it was really just worse the second time

  10. Its no surprise that every major sport is having gambling issues ever since they've started shoving it down our throats in ads and every chance they can get

  11. This was a very predictable outcome given how much the NBA is pushing sports betting. Any time betting has become a focus of any major sport (horse racing, even the MLB at one point) you have players who are willing to do stuff like this.

  12. “Aye bruh can I put 5k on that jontay porter under” just doesn’t add up to me lol no wonder they caught him so quick

  13. i dont think he gets banned from the NBA. 1-2 year suspension. Calvin Riddley was gambling too and he's still in the NFL

  14. Get rid of him for good. It's the only viable way to deal with people that don't respect the sport, the league the fans nor their peers.
I even understand players that basically cheat doing ped's to perform better or acting like a total toolbox like Ja on IG…but this is basically just f… all y'all Imma make dough fixing statlines…just for the sake of monetary geins. You are earning per month what others earn in a full year riding the bench…
Tons of hoopers would kill for your spot and it's time one of 'em get's it.

  15. And, of course, one of your regular sponsors is a sports betting outfit. You are in bed with this upcoming corruption as well. It could ruin sports. See Ohtani.

  16. The amount of people in the comments who are somehow too dense to understand why this is completely different than Calvin Ridley (let alone freaking Ja Morant and Josh Giddey) is downright alarming….

  17. Plot twist: NBA paid him a bag so they could use him as an example to scare the other players.
