Cavaliers, Cleveland Clinic, and Bedrock Announcement

Hello everybody we will begin in 2 minutes if everybody could please find their seat we are scheduled to begin in 2 minutes if everybody could please kindly find your seat thank you If everybody can please take your seats we are getting ready to begin we’ve got about 30 seconds here until we begin if you could take your seats thank You Nah [Applause] [Applause] a huge four [Applause] quarter gas [Applause] Welcome everybody I am Serena Winters the sideline reporter for the Cleveland Cavaliers thank you all so much for joining us today for what is set to be a very iconic day for the Cavaliers and for all of us that got to walk in here today how neat was that experience right

Where you’ve got heart mind motion I know for me when I walked through that tunnel I was impressed I started to feel something those three things heart mind motion those have really been at the foundation of this relationship between the Cavaliers and the Cleveland Clinic and really part of

The inspiration for this next evolution of this partnership between these two absolutely Global Brands and you’re going to learn all about that shortly for now though let me Begin by welcoming Cleveland Cavaliers president of basketball operation Kobe Alman and rock Entertainment Group and Cleveland Cavaliers CEO Nick barage to the [Applause] [Applause] stage all right can everyone hear me this is this is awesome what a great day uh to be in Cleveland Ohio I want to thank our guests and our media for being here um it’s truly humbling when I see the leadership here uh both Civic across industry across healthc care uh

Tremendous leaders uh of Northeast Ohio are in attendance and so it’s just humbling that all of you are going to share this special day with us um I wanted to sort of level set and sort of take a step back and talk about why

We’re here the why and the how um when I first took over as head of basketball operations um several years ago which feels like forever ago um after our last finals run 2018 um and Grant Gilbert’s here uh for the Gilbert family I sat down with Dan

And really discussed with him what we want this franchise to look like moving forward what are we going to be about what’s our core values going to be about and what are we going to be known throughout the industry for and we came back to Player Development right it

Sounds simple but we had to shift our philosophy we had to shift our culture to be all about Player Development and so what that means is we’re going to be able to draft a player develop him in Cleveland and turn him into an Allstar right that that’s that was the goal

Whether we acquire you from free agency or trade you’re going to come to Cleveland and find your best self you’re going to have the best years of your career in Cleveland and we’re starting to see that manifest itself now right and so when me and Dan talked about what is five 10

Years from now look like for the Cavaliers facility came up practice facility came up how are we going to be at the Forefront of innovation of Technology our partners at the Cleveland Clinic are a big part of that we’ll talk more about that but facility came up let

Me just take a step back too and mention uh the city of Independence incredible partner incredible Community for us for the past 15 years uh the the Cleveland Clinic courts that we still use to this day are a great home for us um and they still

Serve us well but if you work for Dan you have to be on the Forefront and we have to Future proof this thing to make sure that our Player Development Goal is going to reach its highest potential and so when Cavaliers now and into the future are going to come to Cleveland

And have the most successful years of their career at this practice facility the other piece that you need to know about Dan um one you have to dream big and you’ll see with these renderings uh just the iconic nature of this building it Embraces the river it’s really an

Architectural feat when you when you when you see it but Dan’s passion is for downtown the urban core live work and play downtown and so when we talked about this facility he said I want to be back downtown I think the Cal should be downtown I said that’s great Dan he he

Cares very much he thinks the best cities in the world have thriving downtowns and so mayor bib we’re we’re here we’re going to come home to Cleveland and truly create a global destination um we have our partners with the clinic here and this was not just going going to be a normal practice

Facility this is going to be a sustainable Hub of resources where any athlete size age skill level can come to Cleveland and find their best self get a full diagnostic of what you need to get better at you’re going to find it right down there on the river and so Nick’s

With me uh our CEO um he’s helped us behind the scenes really put this Vision into reality uh we can’t wait to show you unveil to you what’s coming down the pike very very soon um and it’s going to be incredible so I want to hand it over to Nick to

Talk about what this means for Cleveland what this means for the region um obviously it’s gamechanging for the Cavaliers in our franchise yeah thank you Kobe and uh thank you Serena for for all of your kind words to Lead this off you know as we sit sit here today um in

2005 our chairman Dan Gilbert when he purchased the Cleveland Cavaliers what brought him to Cleveland was his passion for sport and what now carries him through and threads through everything that we do is Dan’s passion for momentum and for momentum in communities and and when we sat down and had this

Conversation and there’s more to story than Kobe sharing we we’ll save that for we’ll save that for after but when we sat down and had this conversation not only did Dan ask us to dream big but he also asked us to think about the community and make sure it was an

Opportunity that served the community in a way that built upon all of the great work that’s already being done right here in Northeast Ohio and so when we think about this and we sat down and we talked about it there was really this this opportunity for us to say hey what

Do we do and how do we ultimately create our own momentum and so as we sit here today that is what today is about today is another step in that Journey for us to create our own momentum momentum doesn’t happen within a within a community without great Partners you

Know Dr Tom as I think about you and your team with Bill and Barry and Kelly Dennis and Paul everybody that’s here with the Cleveland Clinic we have been together for 30 years over 30 years actually when you look at the time period and the great assign of an incredible relationship is a

Relationship that after almost three decades looks brighter to tomorrow than it looks today and that is the true Spirit of of great partners and we are so blessed and honored to be able to share Cleveland on our chest with the Cleveland Clinic as they have over 70,000 caregivers around the world

Making an impact in changing people’s lives and so we thank all of you and all of the caregivers that couldn’t be here today for this Dynamic this groundbreaking and this Relentless partnership to make an impact to our public officials I tell you what we could we could not be here without the

Communication the connectivity and the transparency mayor bib to your Administration County Executive rain with your Administration city council president Blaine Griffin we’ve cut more ribbons on basketball courts than I can count um County council president Pernell Jones one of the the nicest men you’ll ever meet and that every time you

Think of Perell you think of Cleveland you think of Northeast Ohio councilman Carrie McCormack this is this is your this is your ward this is your spot this is coming and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with you and congresswoman Brown thank you so much

For making the time to be here with us today um what what what inspires us is the connectivity we share with our public officials we have a myriad of other public officials here as well I don’t want to just not not call them out but your service to our community to our

Region is what makes us better and we thank you to Our Community Partners got David Gilbert here who heads up the sport Sports commission and destination Cleveland Round of Applause we we we together will welcome the women’s final four here in just a few days um your passion and your care for northeast

Ohio is a reason why we stand here today and we stand on your shoulders as well well as beu Shaw and our neighbor Paul Dolan thank you very much for the relationship that we have and the opportunity we have as we go forward lastly I I can’t not do this without

Mentioning our world-class architect of record and our team members to the team at populace to Jonathan Mali Jack Griffin the entire group that’s helped us take a big dream and distill it into a reality we thank you for being such an incredible part of this journey to our development Partners at Bedrock Kofi

Bonner Ivy Greener Deb janick Nadia Joe gich I could go on Nora I could go on and on and on with the the great team that’s at Bedrock we are so honored to be your brothers and sisters in the family of companies and finally to our Rock Entertainment Group team and to the

Cavaliers this moment we share equity in together this is a moment that we’ve poured a Relentless Pursuit into this opportunity led by Kobe’s Vision but I’d be remissed if I didn’t mention Anthony bonavita Shelley cayette Meg Murray Stephanie me and many many others that have had such a driving force in

Creating this opportunity for us all as we welcome our public officials up we turn it back to Serena here in a second we want I’ll leave you with this today is another step in the journey but today marks momentum for all of us and today marks a better day for northeast Ohio

Than yesterday was we can’t wait to get started thank you so [Applause] much thank you Kobe thank you Nick you know it’s a big day when the mayor Justin bib is in the house so I would like to at this time bring up Cleveland’s mayor Justin bip to the [Applause] Stage thank you so much Serena I’m excited because as Nick mentioned uh the theme for today is momentum momentum momentum uh nearly uh two years ago I met with Kofi in my office I was in my second month in office by the way still trying to find out where

All the bathrooms were at City Hall council president and he shared with me this bold Grand Vision that bedrock and the Cavs had for reinvigorating the kyoga riverfront and as he went through that Vision my first question was how quickly can we cut ribbons and get cranes in the sky

And his response was as fast as you want to I think uh today’s announcement is a true symbol of how quickly we have worked together to make this Vision a true reality and the fact that you have three iconic not just American brands but Global Brands doing this and

Cleveland Ohio is a symbol and a testament of Cleveland’s comeback you know 50 years ago our River as many of you know caught on fire but now 50 years in the future that river is a symbol of a Phoenix rising in one of the best cities in the world because of each and

Every one of you so let’s give yourselves a round of applause if we [Applause] can now as mayor My Philosophy around e iomic development is really simple government does not create jobs but what does government do we create the conditions for good Economic Development all across our city and just yesterday

With the support of our council president and city council we pass the historic Shore to core to shore Tiff District that will [Applause] unlock that will unlock billions of dollars of new development in our city because for far too long we’ve talked about Riverfront development and Lakefront

Development but now we finally have a real plan that will come into fruition because of our public sector and private sector partnership so I’m excited about the progress there’s a lot more work to do but what gives me hope what gives me hope is the fact that kids at cmsd high

School or kids in college will no longer just have to choose between Chicago or New York or LA or Silicon Valley or Miami they’re going to choose Cleveland Ohio because we are back thanks so much I appreciate [Applause] it now I have the distinct pleasure and honor to introduce my council president

And governing partner bla Griffin to the stage thank you mayor Bib and thank you everyone who is here today on behalf of Cleveland City Council I also want to acknowledge my colleague Brian KY who’s here is with us today and also Richard star who I see is here with us today uh

As the mayor said this is really a historic time in the city of Cleveland and I really look at these Global Brands as being an outward expression of inward Grace for city of Cleveland so to be able to sit here today and watch this Vision come into reality is really an

Honor and a privilege that I think is really going to make be transformational in this city as the mayor stated yesterday we passed as Cleveland City Council unanimously I might add a Shore to core to shore Tiff District that will create billions of dollars in this area

And I want to thank Kofi and all his team and Deb and gayen and everybody who really worked with us to really help educate Council on why this is such a a good deal for the city of Cleveland in the city of Cleveland you have to make

Sure that you take care of the little things and take care of the small things in the neighborhoods and in the community um you need to make sure that everything is working well but you also need to think big and this is an opportunity to think big in the city of

Cleveland so I’m very honored that we’re going to see this project come to fruition um only thing that I ask is that you invite me and to more games because me and Dr mahalovich actually brought you luck when we came and was able to watch the three quarter uh three

Four Quarter Shop so uh you know definitely we’re excited about the things and that we’re excited about the things that we’re doing with the c Cleveland Clinic in ward 6 I have the privilege and honor of working with them and I can tell you council member

Cormick you’re going to have a very good partner to work with with the Cleveland Clinic and definitely I know that the Cavs and Bedrock will also come together to make this happen happen thank you all so much we look forward to this great [Applause] Project and we’ve got so many great guests here today thank you to city council president Griffin and it is now time to welcome County Executive Chris Ronan to the stage [Applause] Chris thank you Serena good morning everybody how you doing back here all right exciting day so I’m Chris R I’m your county executive in a minute I’m gonna introduce my counterpart Pernell Jones our County council president but before I go further in the spirit of March Madness I have to also introduce

County councilman former city council president but County councilman Martin Sweeney give a give a wave there Marty Marty for those who don’t know uh the talent in our County Council Marty played on the Cleveland State Dream Team under Kevin Mackey with mouse McFadden that 86 team that went far the

Cinderella boys all right give it up give it up uh thank you clevel Cavaliers it is exciting obviously to be hosting uh March Madness in our Women’s Championship uh coming up in the next couple weeks just for the record our office pool is the women’s pool and we’re looking forward to the Champions

Coming here in Cleveland um I I am um I’m really humbled by these three brands that are in front of us and I’m going to speak to each of them very quickly but I think there’s one uh image that we need on this oh my gosh I just saw Meredith

Turner County councilwoman also a college basketball player hello Meredith Turner give it up for Meredith Turner anybody else I’m missing all right back to the brands but those are our two Council basketball fados uh I I think a an image that’s not on the screen that uh is with us every

Day we’re in this house and throughout Cleveland and the city of Detroit is Dan Gilbert um I can’t say enough about Mr Gilbert um I had the chance to meet him in this building on game one day one uh when he came to Cleveland and he invested in Cleveland and the only thing

I could say once as a representative from Cleveland City Hall is thank you for believing in Cleveland Dan Gilbert so let’s give Dan Gilbert a round of applause he he not only believes in this city as a second home he invests and well the rest of the story uh Kobe and Nick

Pardon the Indulgence here for a minute but I walked into to game one and talked to him about two things both a little off topic from uh the game of basketball on the floor but one was as a hockey player you guys I know I annoy you with

Hockey I said Dan can you get a hockey team back he did in a year he had the Cleveland monster they were then the lake area monsters but he brought them back in a year hey all right we got a few monsters fans up there second thing uh is we had a

Conversation about practice courts and we had at the city of Cleveland pitched right across the street at hon and Dan said you got to talk to our guy the guy was the indomitable LeBron James there were conversations that were had and there were reasons that ultimately the facility ended up in Independence but

Dan leaving in Cleveland as Kobe and Nick said I don’t think he ever forgot us just took 19 years and the practice courts are coming back give it up for a guy who never stopped believing in Cleveland and I also want to acknowledge the great City of Independence because

They’ve been a great home uh for the practice facilities for the last 15 some years um so it’s a regional partnership but we all believe in this place and as mayor council president our Council you guys know if Cleveland in the downtown doesn’t go then no our region doesn’t go

We need we need this downtown to thrive so we appreciate this investment here I want to quickly say to the Cleveland Clinic thank you Dr mahalik uh I I just thank Tom on the side with Vicky Johnson and I’ve worked for years with Bill peacock um Paul Matson I miss you guys

You grew University Circle and then some as bling Griffith knows Griffin knows but I thank you because you were the first company I called for the Health and Human Service Levy to support us you supported us that we passed that Health and Human Service Levy 70% last week

Thank you it’s investing in Cleveland and the health of our people the uh the Cleveland Cavaliers this organization goes beyond it’s it’s what happens in this building yes but it’s what happens all throughout the community as the city of Cleveland leadership can attest as Nick and Kobe have talked about investing in our

Neighborhoods investing in our kids uh I have been lucky over the years to work with a lot of you and where I’ve seen you out in the community uh campy is places like the Slavic Village neighborhood where we were out wiring up communities with Wi-Fi in a neighborhood

To give families access that was a Cleveland Cavaliers sponsoring neighborhood progress thank you you are a community partner all of you and I just want to say it’s an honor to work with you and we are lucky when we look at sports teams to have the Cavaliers in our town

And Paul the Guardians the Browns teams that the ownership cares about the city so thank you again and to bedrock finally um I was talking I see Senator Sereno and uh representative Patton out here it’s good to see you guys we were talking Senator Sereno just this morning

About all the going Z and it’s nice to be able to see an anchor sports team that is now going to Anchor further progress in its development yield one thing I want to say to you is we’ve watched Indianapolis over the years Tom we’ve seen how St Vincent and the Pacers

Have worked together to really change the game in sports medicine and training and to see it happen here a medical town a sports town and a waterfront Town Allin one it’s going to be exciting so I want to just flip to the river very quickly Kofi boner and his team give us

All their time all the time and we’re meeting later today but what you’re going to do on this Riverfront with the mayor’s Shore to core to shore plan is exciting I’ve been focused on that name kyoga in the name of kaga County the river that we take our name from in this

County to see what’s about to happen at the Confluence of your investment at the Confluence of we hope this this practice facility the scenic Valley Railway and as Kobe and I were talking about that great bridge above the Veterans Memorial Bridge we’re going to activate the riverfront like we’ve never seen in this

Town we’re going to activate the riverfront as has been deferred too long in this town we can’t wait to work with you so here’s to the courts going as a big part of that dream here’s to the city of Cleveland but here’s to the partnership across the board thank you appreciate [Applause] You I I follow the instructions we we were told to come this way and so we don’t knock Serena over so I I was being obedient good morning good morning it it truly is an honor to be here today for this this Monumental project uh as as County council president and

And a part of our County government I want to share one thing with you we have an initiative closing the achievement Gap it is meant to help our students in high school from 9th through 12th to be successful many start dropping out around the ninth grade but when we

Engage with them with a mentor in their life and bring them around extracurricular activities whether going bowling or to a movies or anything we are able to build trust with them and help them to stay in school and be successful I started this program 10 years ago the county started this

Program 10 years ago and over the course of four years we’d expect a graduation class we had one after three years 9th through 12th and that was because some of the kids were at risk and had failed earlier grades so when we engaged them we helped them recover their proper

School credit and they graduated on time that was huge that was [Applause] huge Warrenville Heights went from 67% graduate graduation rate to 96% Maple Heights 96% Ted gin Academy in the city of Cleveland is not connection to us but they use the same initiative closing the achievement Gap they have a

98% graduation rate and they have like nine mentors in the high school this is something that’s critical and wrapping the extracurricular activity around them is critical every everyone knows Ted gin has the greatest extracurricular activity in his his sports teams and his Sports uh and his again teams and that

Is what we have here today this is a critical piece to what we are already doing here in the community to have to have two worldclass facilities in Cleveland Clinic and the Cleveland Cavaliers come together for this Monumental project it’s more than just a sports facility it is truly a health and

Wellness facility and what will benefit every part of this community our students who are our athletic students will have a great opportunity I learned the day that they they can help me in my in a stressful job stressful work uh they they can bring a science to the

Table that that might help me with this gut here so I can’t wait for you to build somebody got to tell me when this thing is going to be finished so I’m excited I am excited for you all for everyone who’s a a part of this I’m going to acknowledge my colleagues again

I know my my partner Chris rain did it but councilman Martin Sweeney councilwoman meredi Turner without them I’m not even here today so again Chris doesn’t get to acknowledge all them all the time so all right so again congratulations to each and every one of you were part of this again momentous

Occasion thank [Applause] you thank you to County council president Pernell Jones Jr and really to all of our elected officials also for just making my job easier and introducing everybody for me I really appreciate that do you guys want to Clear the Stage now it is the moment that you have

All been waiting for and the reason that we have gathered here today here it is Legacy it’s a word that carries a lot of weight it’s the Mark we leave on the world the foundation of Cleveland Clinic is a group practice that was put in place 100 years ago is Alive and Well the memories we create and the impact we have on those around us it was just

Common sense that’s all Cleveland should have a team because we were the eighth larest Market in the country 1 second left but shenir shoots it and didn’t get it and it’s over legacies come in many different forms some are physical like monuments or buildings that stand the test of time

When you walk into this building you’re going to be so proud just like all of the other things that have been a part of the Renaissance of this city it’s rare in our business that you find somebody who says they’re going to do something and they keep their word they

Kept their word others are intangible The Memories We create with loved ones or the impact we have on others lives through our words and actions seeing the kids and just put a smile on their faces even throughout the hard times I mean it’s super good to see a smile on your

Face patients don’t realize how much we in medicine care about them but the reason they don’t know it is that we don’t show it to them and empathy in a lot of ways is about trying to show Patients how much we care as we grow older we begin to think about our our own legacies what will we be remembered for Cleveland is a city of Champions once again what impact will we have had on the world yet again the Cleveland Clinic was ranked second best Hospital

Second best the number two Hospital in the world but the truth is the journey has already begun our legacies are already in motion every action we take every word we speak contributes to the Mark we leave on the world and every day there is a new opportunity to make an

Impact to make a difference to build our Legacy Cavalier fans are you Ready let the countdown begin here we go 5 4 3 2 1 It is our great honor and privilege to introduce the official renderings of the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center and now to celebrate this iconic day we are actually going to have a really informative panel for for you with a lot of information about what we

Have to offer for you so please welcome right now Cleveland Cavaliers president a basketball operations Kobe Alman back to the stage Rock Entertainment Group and Cleveland Cavaliers CEO Nick barage along with Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr Tom mihalovich and Bedrock CEO Kofi boner right thank you all for joining us um this

Center will really be one of the world’s most cuttingedge sports performance facilities and the first ever Cleveland Clinic backed professional facility to open to the public this is a huge deal for Cleveland if you cannot already tell already and something that has been in

The works for such a long time so Kobe I know you’ve been working on this for so long so to find fin see this Vision sort of come to life and from your opening remarks you talked so much about the conversations that you had with Dan

Gilbert so what can you share just about this vision and how this all came about well first of all when you work for for Dan you have to you have to dream big right and when we talked about what we want this to be in terms of a literally

A Civic gift to this the city we wanted it to be iconic and it has to have a wow factor and so when we put up the renderings that we’re going to unveil right now not just the banner but we have more renderings coming um the wow

Factor um we’ll put it up at some um the wow factor uh some point it’s going to come up but uh you’ll see incredible architectural feet from populace there we go there we go so so I could see just from some reactions this is going to be one of the

Nicest buildings Cleveland has ever seen it’s a huge deal and we got inspiration from the river we got inspiration from our industrial past so you can see some of the curvatures of the river you can see the bend you can see the brass tones you can see uh an Embrace of our history

Um and truly a destination where people are W to want to come and have that instagramable moment um from around the globe and so we’re going to go deeper into the programming of the building uh but just want everyone to take a step back and say wait a second this is

Coming to Cleveland yes this is coming to Cleveland Kofi is one of the the first projects of bedrocks pioneering kyoga Riverfront master plan and we we’re seeing so much about what this is going to do for the riverfront what can you tell us about the significance of what

This means for the city in regards to that sure thank you thank you very much for having me here I will tell you that after listening to all these fabulous speeches which are all absolutely accurate all I can say is man I just got to build this thing

Now um but I will add to one of the things we say uh about working the privilege it is for working for Dan Gilbert and the Gilbert family not only does Dan and the family enable us to dream big but Dan actually expects us to execute too and so we have the privilege

Of also having the opportunity to work for somebody who’s willing to commit his resources to execution and uh as you correctly point out this is going to be the anchor to the kyogo riverfront master plan and it’s not only an anchor in terms of its obviously its beauty and

Its Excellence but it’s also an anchor in terms of some of the social things we talk about the public access that is so critical to a great Waterfront or Riverfront and this will be the first building that not only again provides this physical scale of what we’re trying

To do on the riv front but also provides that access to folks so they can absolutely begin to uh explore the river walk and walk along it bike along it a and the fact that the clinic is also providing this Sports Innovation Center it just provides that global

Sort of Mark of Excellence on top of it all which all encompasses what we’re trying to do on this Riverfront master plan so all the ingredients that we’re seeking are encompassed in the start right here it’s such a beautiful part of our city that has you know been

Underutilized so to see this and imagine this being on the riverfront I mean is going to be incredible and to talk with Nick about how important it is just to bring this to downtown Town Cleveland having this type of Center you know even just the the the view that you’re going

To see now traveling over the bridge so Nick what is really the center’s role in developing the downtown area of Cleveland yeah first I’d just like to take a step back because as we think about from 2005 until where we sit today um Dan the family of companies Rock and

Mortgage Bedrock the Cleveland Cavaliers this investment will will put us right at or just below $2 billion doll um invested into Northeast Ohio and so I think as you think about that all these pieces start to fit together right whether it’s the call center that you

See over at the Higg building for Rocket mortgage or if it’s the Bedrock initiatives with the vision for the valley um this becomes that next focal point for our franchise for our family of companies we couldn’t do it to Kofi and to Kobe’s Point without Dan and Jennifer Gilbert’s vision uh their

Empowerment and I would also say this it’ be remissed if I didn’t but also Grant Gilbert’s work behind the scenes to really help enable this incredible project what our goal is with this project and you’ll see it um as it starts to come to life and as it matures

Is for this to be a catalyst for bringing people to the Waterfront but also to then bring them back and have and share connectivity if Dan were up here today the one thing he asked of both of us when we were developing this was to make sure somebody can get from

That facility to this Fieldhouse to Public Square to the Waterfront to East forth and making sure that this doesn’t become just a destination it becomes an activation of opportunity for our entire Community here in downtown and that’s really ultimately what we aspire to do with our partners at the Cleveland

Clinic as well as Bedrock is use this as a point in time for us to activate not just land don’t think of this as just brick and mortars but think of it as activating the spirit of our city in a way that we’ve never envisioned before a

Long Riverfront I think what’s so neat about this is the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center it’s it’s more than just a training facility right and we’re seeing that but at the same time it’s also going to elevate the athlete experience and that’s both for professional athletes and as we’ll talk

About for just the every day but for you Kobe how do you see this training facility really elevating this overall athlete experience uh it seems simple but people need to enjoy going to work and uh um you can see from this facility when you arrive you’re going to want to

Spend your whole day there and we think about Player Development in such a holistic way it’s not just basketball it’s not just rebounding and shooting it’s when you arrive what’s your activation look like what’s your n nutrition program look like your strength and conditioning your mental health uh your wellness and guys are

Going to spend long hours of the day at this facility finding that 1% let’s get 1% better today and and this is going to invite uh that Elite athlete but it’s also going to invite we’re going to glean from these Elite athletes how we can also live our best lives right how

Our the executives and the and the CEOs in the room right have that stress level how can we find our best selves within some of the stuff we’re going to glean um Dr Thomas here he’s going to talk about the Clinic’s offerings at this Center that’s going to be truly

Community- based uh we all want to find our best selves and so from an athlete perspective yes you’re going to show up you’re going to have the newest Technologies the newest modalities Cleveland Clinic literally is the building next is over you’re going to be able to get a full diagnostic of what’s

Going on and how you can be your best self at 7:30 at night and continue to carry the Cleveland Cavaliers flag and be the best we can be and so this is such a great investment in our our franchise uh if future proofs ourselves from all the technology that’s coming

Down the pike um we’re going to be ready for this and we’re going to be hitting this at a time when our our franchise is is peing um so we’re really excited about it for our franchise but certainly for the community as well well Kobe you talked about it being an investment for

The franchise but it’s also an investment for the community right in the everyday and it’s great to have a doctor here on stage to talk about that we’ll finally get to the doct Tom over here but Tom not just for the professional athlete but for somebody

Like in this room myself as an example who wants to be able to take advantage of a facility like that can someone like me take advantage of a facility that’s offering these incredible aspects to professional athletes yeah absolutely the because the the offerings in these buildings are going to extend beyond the

Offerings just for professional athletes it is really going to be open to a community uh of uh people who are interested in improving their their performance and uh the importance of sports really transcends not just uh it’s not only just focus on our youth youth is very very important you know

The sports involvement in sports are really significant contributor to social stability to Excellence in schooling excellence in everyday life but the importance of physical activity also goes in a later stages in life you know for many of us all of us here who used to play love the game cannot dunk any

Longer but would but still still would like to continue to uh to be good at their jobs to continue to be active to ex to expand and extend their professional careers involvements in sports is of critical importance so for us as a health care provider uh the

Suite of services that we will be providing over here is going to allow people to continue to enjoy active and productive life it’s great to hear just the dichotomy of both right that it’s not just for the professional athlete but Kobe back to how much this is elevating the athlete experience how

Does a a an elite facility like this make it so that Cleveland continues to be you know one of the top destinations to to play here professionally absolutely and I think that’s what we’re we’re trying to change the perception I mean Cleveland is a destination it’s a

World class City this will be a world class uh facility and listen um this is this is the task at hand we we want we do have a championship caliber culture this just triples down on that uh investment in our culture um we do believe that uh we have the secret sauce

Here for guys to come and Achieve and have the best years of their careers with this facility it’s going to only Elevate that that level um with the with with the great Partners at the clinic um we think this is going to serve our franchise and our athletes

Um attract the best athletes in the world and again come to Cleveland and find your best self Nick to deliver something of of this magnitude and you touched upon this a little bit when you had your opening REM remarks but but what did it take because you obviously had to have a

Shared vision and and this is incredible yeah the first of all it it doesn’t happen without the spirit of of great Partners both at Bedrock as well as the Cleveland Clinic um um and that really served as the foundation um from there I had this guy yanking me into

Meetings and tours and things across the country um at the height of the pandemic believe it or not because he said when we come out of this we need to attack and and I was just trying to keep the lights on around here a little bit and

He said no no no no no let’s keep building let’s keep going and and I give him a lot of credit for that and when you put those kind of ingredients together once again with a chairman like Dan and his vision and his passion for community and Urban Development um we

Don’t look at this like it’s a sports team we look at this like it’s a convergence of sports and entertainment that Cates a platform that ultimately drives momentum and and creates opportunity for our community and so there’s no doubt there is equity in every in every part of this between the

Three partners that are up here as well as as as as well as the Gilbert family but these are opportunities for us to embrace as a community and for for far too long and I I believe this because I’m not from Cleveland originally but Cleveland is home I I believe that we

Have to continue to Aspire to change the perception of how we think about our great City and our great region because there’s one thing and we talk a lot about it with uh with David Gilbert and with the entire Community we have worldclass assets without world-class

Egos and that allows us to pull together and tie threads across our entire community that creates Partnerships like this that last the test of time and create Legacy that will live on well beyond any of us are here as we’re all stewards of these incredible assets and like Nick I’m not

From here but I feel very lucky to be able to call Cleveland home and my husband and I also always talk about how there are these these assets that can be developed and and seeing this is absolutely one of those and you talk about Equity so when we talk about the

Bedrock real estate side and the relationship with the Cavaliers how is it central to just bedrocks Central master really kyoga Riverfront plan in terms of how this project creates that well as as I stated before the the the opportunity for Bedrock to was it about a year and a

Half ago or so as the mayor pointed out two years ago that we unveiled the plan and the plan was a continuation of something the city had been working on for decades division for the valley and we were fortunate enough to take that plan and sort of condense it onto

Properties that we essentially owned but in the process uh a plan is a plan you have to start somewhere with a phys you know physically you have to start building and it just so happened that we were able to start building with this and as I said before to start with this

If this is the beginning of the plan we can all imagine what the end will be because this just raises the level of excellence and it absolutely fits in into how we frankly the family of companies see ourselves in serving the communities as we’re thinking about urban revitalization urban Resurgence

And I will also say that it is incredibly important for us to show the city and our public partners that this is how we think about this city so because we absolutely need that public private partnership we absolutely need the leadership that’s represented here in order to carry this and many other

Things off and so we’re very heartened Bedrock is very heartened by the efforts of our public Partners uh in putting forth the uh qu to sh short to qu to shore uh uh uh uh financing plan we look forward to working with the city and uh the county and all the public uh

Partners because it is absolutely essential that we raise our vision and those are just words until I think you see that this is what we mean and I hope that this is absolutely uh appreciated throughout the public process we are now going to take this through the formal

Public process we think this is terrific we hope the city believes it’s terrific and if they do indeed believe it’s terrific we guarantee that later this year this will be under construction you talk about Brands and you hear the name Cleveland Clinic and you think best hospital in the world right I mean

That’s that’s the first thing you think of when when you hear that so Dr Tom to have that name and to have this branding and this partnership with the Cavs how special is that and and how does that all come together what are the priorities first of all I like to say

It’s it is very special for us um we spoke a lot about our our city uh Cleveland and how special uh the city of Cleveland but take a look at our partnership I mean we all belong to the same team uh it says a lot to our commitment to

Excellence this says a lot about our shared values um we are we’ve been working together very very closely for many many years and we are trying to accomplish the same thing at Cleveland Clinic we want to be the best place to receive care anywhere and the best place to work

In healthc care our partners and Cleveland Cavaliers they want to be the best basketball franchise that best steam in the world this is the aspiration we are Global Brands rooted in Cleveland but when we play in Paris France or when we establish our presence in the UA in

London we’re actually known only by one word people root for us in Paris by en chanting Cleveland they go to Cleveland Clinic in London London and they say I’m going to Cleveland for my healthare there’s one name that combines us it is very important it’s the name of our city this

Is really what carries the spirit of both of these franchises and this is really how both Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland Cavaliers carry Cleveland name and a legacy associated with it globally uh that is what is really really powerful about the work that we’re doing together one of the other

Very very powerful powerful things the Cavs do were the Youth Sports programs that really serve Northeast Ohio I know that’s Nick been been such a Forefront of importance for the caval organization how can a facility like this help just Elevate that aspect yeah as we got into

This and we studied this with the with the clinic team at at depths um throughout the process this does have to have a business case to it it has to have a value proposition to the community it can’t just be pretty pictures and so from that perspective we

Have um a Youth Academy that has over 50,000 participants in it annually we’re growing that it should be closer to 60,000 participants by the time this facility opens um and so for us we want to be able to attract and create pull through for our partners at the clinic

By utilizing the reach we have from a youth sports perspective but also to what Kobe and to what Dr mahalovich said earlier we think there’s an incredible opportunity for weekend Warriors for people that are a that are active that may just need some attention to care from a sports medicine or from an

Orthopedics perspective so we want to use all of these threads and all these tentacles we have in the community to ultimately make sure that we’re creating vibrancy in this facility we’re pulling people into this facility and then they’re going to go for a walk along the riverfront they’re going to come they’re

Going to go check out Tower City they’re going to pop through Public Square they’re going to they’re going to have lunch at East Fourth Street these are all things that we’re being very intentional about um and things that we’ve been really focused on as we’ve entered into these

Conversations over the last three or four years because at the end of the day the equation has to work it can’t just be brick and mortar it has to be a solution for a community and we think we have a lot of those opportunities to be able to create and tie those threads

Throughout this this incredible asset yeah I think the the public access perspective is so important and has so much potential so Tom I’m curious for you what can the public expect effect out of what they can also get from this incredible Center so first of all the

Suite of services that will be provided on a premises are going to uh extend beyond what you would typically expect an orthopedic uh support for those who have injuries uh problems with their knees ankles and need some physical therapy but the uh nutrition is a very important

Part of uh um of a caring caring for athletes and uh tailoring to to the to their performance cardiovascular health of Paramount importance uh mental health and services uh uh that are needed in order to support people uh through through their careers as they strive to

Kind of get their uh uh up their performance all of that uh is needed for the athletes but also who those who strive as I mentioned before to continue to lead an active life to have a sustained Excellence over time this is really what we striving to accomplish sustained excellence in performance over

Time Kofi welcoming the public to a professional performance center is not something that we see happen every day right so what does this potentially do for the connectivity of the residents here the city of downtown Cleveland how does that all work well it becomes just an incredible attraction right I mean

There there is purpose in this destination people will want to come to the riverfront for all kinds of reason of uh reasons and opportunities this creates a a medical opportunity and his Beauty creates hopefully an attraction in and of itself and it just becomes one strong mag one more magnet for uh the

Public to say let’s go check out downtown Cleveland and this will be part of as I say a string of um amenities and activations uh we’ve taken quite great care to uh point out just in case you haven’t noticed that there’s kayak launching kayaking going on here there’ll be many other activations

There’ll be music there’ll be all kinds of things so at any particular time and any particular day this Riverfront will indeed be teeming with people and families for all kinds of reasons they’ll be coming through the newly open Public Square through Tower City down to the riverfront they’ll come to this facility

For their medical help and then they’ll linger they’ll linger because the riverfront will be beautiful there’ll be a river walk and there will be 12 acres of open space associated with the River Front plan and there’ll be people living down there and there’ll be retail and restaurants and it will be what you

Would expect in a worldclass city Kobe you have been working on this for so long so so are there any final thoughts you want to leave us with in terms of what really building this Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center really took we’re just incredibly

Excited um as a franchise as a city um and I want all of you to be incredibly excited share these renderings put it out to the world because this is going to be one of the best Peak Performance centers in the entire Globe it’s going

To be Global in nature and so I always say all the time high self-esteem recruiting this is Cleveland now we have one of the we’re going to have one of the best facilities in the world right downtown it’s going to be architectural feat it’s going to be beautiful and it’s

Going to welcome athletes from around the globe to come to Cleveland and so we’re incredibly excited we’re really thankful to our our partners at the city uh for helping us uh realize this dream and and we can’t wait we can’t wait so more to come all right I think we all

Have one more question Nick when is this set to open Save The Best For Last um first of all this is as as we go through the process this is a really important moment in time for us from a planning perspective all these renderings will be in front of

City Planning here over the next um 30 days so by the middle of April uh we’ll be working between April 12th and April 19th um with city planning to pursue approval um pending approval which we don’t we understand that that is a iterative process and and a process that

We will engage with and great faith with our partners at the city of Cleveland um our goal is to break ground by the end of 2024 uh we anticipate about a 2 and a half to a threeyear time to build um and so you can do the math based on how that

Cycles through and when we would anticipate this to be open and so we couldn’t be more excited about what this opportunity yields for our community for northeast Ohio for our city for our partners at the Cleveland Clinic and at Bedrock um and the last thing I do want

To just say is thank you to all of you the way that Cleveland showed up today the way that Northeast Ohio showed up today is symbolic of where we’re headed and we’re headed there together and we’re headed there with momentum and we know that tomorrow is going to be better

Than today based on the commitment we have from everybody here thank you so much we can’t wait to get started Kobe Nick Tom Kofi thank you so much we’re going to have a little photo opportunity here if there’s any internal external media that would like to be a part of the photo

Opportunity you can make your way up Here Okay if media and special guests in attendance can go up to Bridges you can take the elevators and follow the signs there’s also a light lunch and drinks up there special a guest please head over to Bridges
