Nuggets hit another gear, Mavs misjudged & Warriors labeled ‘Birkin Bags’ | NBA | FIRST THINGS FIRST

In the basement of a store that only sells pants with no Sheen a select group of Scholars athletes and former Rivals fought and toiled and burned the Midnight Oil to deliver the definitive basketball team hierarchy no it’s not power rankings it’s time for Nick’s tear

You get me every time Wilds all right we have some movement in the basement some sub tier movement if we can show you move down to control fraction the Hornets and move down to sub relegation the 11 consecutive lost Toronto Raptors uh ever since winning that title I’m not

Really sure what the Raptor plan has been I don’t really know uh but so that’s the that’s the basement there is where we’re at all right cool story bro and it’s cool story bro like listen Pacers magic yeah like yeah listen we’re happy for you you all have different

Ceilings the Rockets it’s get to the play in mhm right the Pacers it’s make the real playoffs and for the magic it’s win around I don’t think the Pacers can win around with their defense but it’s you’re just a cool story you’re not a threatening team you’re not it’s just

Cool story bro Burk and bags so Wilds knows all about these Brew maybe doesn’t so these are Brew these are purses that cost up to $100,000 someone’s paying a100 your wife no no no but uh but no I mean people are obviously but if you’ve ever actually

Seen one in person you look at it and you’re like this is the same as like any nice purse I’ve ever seen that might cost 800 bucks so why are so these teams these are the three most expensive teams in the NBA and they’re the same as every

Run-ofthe-mill decent team so why do they cost so much name recognition Kevin Durant Kawhi Leonard Steph Curry Klay Thompson Draymond Green Russell well Russ is Chief Harden all of it but these teams are not very good none of them are going to make round two of the playoffs

A couple of them might not even make the actual playoffs if things keep going next makell everyone’s read the prce of course what’s his famous quote it is better to be feared than loved they play hard the Cavs dealing with Donovan’s injury light that damn beam Sacramento even if Darren Fox

Doesn’t want to talk to the media at all ever my goodness Daren what did we do to you but nobody fears you in the playoffs everybody knows what you are we like your fan bases we respect the players and the coaches but you’re not feared at

All can see a path here you can see it for the Pelicans it’s get Ingram back have Zion continue on this trajectory CJ having a quiet year it’s not a easy path but you can see it for the Sixers it’s very simple Maxi maintains embiid comes

Back has his first great playoff run I’m not saying it’s a light ly path but you can at least see the path need proof of concept okay so these two teams are excellent however the last time Oklahoma City won a playoff game Chris Paul was prominently involved and the last time

They won a series was 2016 Mina brw do you remember the year I know you do Latrell spr well Sam Cel Kevin Garnett covered that series the Minnesota Timberwolves have won four playoff games since that season since kg’s MVP so we know you’re excellent regular Seas teams we know you have excellent players

Well coached but until we see this group of guys win a round in the playoffs it’s going to be hard to fully believe you can win three or four rounds playoff nightmare for very different reasons for the Mavs it’s just Raw Talent it’s that Luca Playoff stats rival Michael

Jordan’s literally as far as a per game basis and Kyrie’s playoff moment somewhat argue is the best in NBA history certainly on the short list for the heat it’s about culture history and pedigree that nobody wants to see either one of these teams lined up against them

In round one no matter what they did in the regular season the media was right why are you guys spending so much time on the Lakers other team no the media was right Lakers are actually incredibly interesting incredibly dangerous and nobody wants to play them you saw it last night when

They were without LeBron James now Wilds thinks that’s their key is sit LeBron for the rest of the year maybe they go on a run smart people recognize that that is not the case uh but the Lakers despite their pedestrian starts to every season it would feel since they won the

Championship this time of year if they are healthy are one of the four most dangerous teams in basketball next trust your head or your heart head says Boston what the top five point differential ever they’re going to win 65 games they’re deep they have they check off every box they keep banging on

The door your heart says in a series do I trust any of those guys to be the man against either of the best two guys the Bucks has in a series do I actually trust my heart says Milwaukee your head says Boston and then of course at the

Top for the very first time hitting another gear yeah finally since the allstar break this team is 15 and two those two losses one in overtime to Phoenix and one the Kyrie sky hook so I they are an overtime and one of the greatest buzzer beaters this year away

From being 17 and0 since the All-Star break they’re healthy they’re terrifying they are at the top of the tear that are those are EXC the tear for March 27th I like the titles I like the titles um but I said last week the heat are too high I

Still believe that that but I’m going to focus on the Mavericks okay I would move the Mavericks up a tier right next to the Lakers oh wow Mavericks are dangerous and I know I’ve said you can’t win it all with just one guy kind of everything revolving about around him

I’m not saying they going to win it all but I think they can have a deep playoff run I don’t think they can win it all but I think they can have a really deep playoff run out west they have won 17 they’ve G 17 and six over the last 23

And they’ve won nine of their last 10 and the key they made some really good moves at the trade deadline Daniel Gafford the center you and and you see look at the numbers of the last 10 games defense is the huge key we know they weren’t stopping anybody earlier in the

Season and when they had some of their losing streaks since they put put Daniel Gafford in as the starting center 610 gives them some physicality a little more toughness they defense defensive rating us see there is second it was 7 or 23rd when gafford’s not the starter

They’re 11-1 with him as a starter PJ Washington was a good pickup as well gives them more depth you you still got Lively who’s been had a great rookie season so the Mavericks you know you got the two Unstoppable offensive players now they’ve got guys playing defense

They got some Shooters they’ve got depth I like what they’re doing and I think they’re as dangerous as the Lakers are that would be because of where they are in the standings it’s almost impossible that we would see it unless it were in the Conference Finals but Lakers Mavs

Would be a hell of a fun series to watch for you know with for a lot of reasons the story the story lines also if you guys remembered at the deadline yeah when I was complaining about the Lakers not doing anything Daniel gaffard was the guy that I used as the example of

Like he’s not going to he’s not a life Cher but to improve your team around the margins exactly right and it’s exactly what Dallas was able to do so I’m with you bro okay I’m going to move the Lakers down and I don’t want to take

Shots at the media and I think you made a lot of solid points on their dangerous oh but they have LeBron coming back so it’ll probably get worse first of all we don’t know how much LeBron we’re going to get he’s on a back toback he plays in

Memphis tonight but he told Chris Haynes via text that he has to manage this ankle throughout the Finish Line wherever the finish line is so that’s going to be a constant worry especially as we get to the playoffs and the games get a little bit tighter but it was this

Quote from d’angel Russell via Dave mcmeniman that’s in very small font but I’ll read it dramatically and I think as I read this is he saying this is a good thing like is he like an unpredictable boxer I don’t know which way they’re going I think we’re an unpredictable

Team so it depends on which team you get depends on which team we are defensively offensively as a unit some guys are better than others some nights some guys have bad nights it just depends on what team we’re going to be when we’re in full effect like tonight with no braa

Though I think we’re hard to be that’s true but it’s almost like this is the identity of the team where they roll the dice and like hey tonight we’re great defensively oh tonight we’re just a little soft tonight LeBron’s the guy tonight’s ad’s offense is clicking tonight I’m D’Angelo Russell not going

To be able to shoot no today I’m going to be the hottest player in the NBA hey Austin reeds are you the third part of a big three nope I’m just like a random guy that just uh had a good playoff run so the unpredictability of the Lakers

When I like consistency in the playf I think deserves a a spot down that’s kind of what LeBron said too remember we said we could beat anybody we lose anybody it’s CU me and LeBron that’s so I I think that I I agree with your quote

Or with his quote I agree with what you’re saying the reason that to me that’s less of a blemish if you will on the Lakers is in my opinion the three best teams are so clearly the three best teams Denver Boston Milwaukee that I don’t I think the only way anybody

Milwaukee may be in a separate category but is going to beat one of those teams is via unpredictability and bar I don’t think it’s going to be like hey we just have to be our consistent selves in or you’re you’re going to have to get on a

Two we red hot streak to beat Denver now that does this mean the Lakers could be a team that if they were to like I said earlier play Denver in round one and win that they could then lose in round two to anybody sure you know what I mean

Like I I don’t think they’re a incredibly reliable team but I think outside of those top three teams they have the highest ceiling of any team in the league how hard how long can they maintain that ceiling that’s good that’s good analysis I thought I think that unpredictability is because one ad is

Unpredictable especially offensively and then LeBron’s injuries is he playing you know he has to sit out some games question rotations probably some thanks for watching subscribe here to get more from the show and to check out clips from other shows on FS1

  1. I'd love to see Denver and Lakers in the playoffs again. Nuggets sweeping them two years in a row sounds like a fun series to watch.

  2. Nick forgot to mention WHY the Lakers pick it up at the end of the season… idk, it might, JUST MIGHT have something to do with them having one of the easiest schedules down the stretch. Yeah, that's a fact. By win %, the Lakers have the easiest schedule. For example, just starting today, lets look at their upcoming games. Against the GRIZZLES, Pacers, NETS, RAPTORS, WIZARDS, Cavs, Wolves, Warriors, GRIZZLES, Pelicans. I capitalize the games that are GUARENTEE WINS. 10 games left and that is 50% of their games which the Lakers don't even need to play. The NBA can just give them an auto win. They should beat the Cavs with Mitchell out, they should beat the Warriors.. and what are you left with? A tough game against the Pacers, Wolves and Pelicans. Lets say they take 1 out of 3 there..thats an 8-2 record to end the season. You will have casuals talking about the SURGE OF THE LAKERS.. when in reality, no, they just played bottom tier teams, teams who are already in off season mode, playing G LEAGUE Players. Lets stop this narrative. Lakers will be lucky to win a playoff round.

  3. 9:22 Wildes summed it up perfectly. Lmao. 😂 Thats how we Lakers fans feel. AR can at times play like just another random guy. Dlo can be like Steph Curry 1 game and next game he is Eric Snow. AD been balling constantly though. AD only has probably 5 bad games all year.

  4. Lakers can go straight to that Birkin Bags tier having big names, not many wins with a possibility of not even making the playoffs.

  5. One of the most amazing things about OKC's incredible year has been their historically good health luck. I've never seen anything like it in over 50 years of following the league. How many games have their starters missed this year? Chet Holmgren=0, SGA-1 Josh Giddey-1 Dort-2 Jalen Williamns-7. The Thunders' starters have missed only 11 games in total, and outside of Williams the other 4 starters have averaged missing one game each!! That's unbelievable and goes far beyond Sacto's injury good luck last year. Jamal Murray by himself has missed 18 games. Bradley ;Beal himself has missed almost 3x the games that OKC's starters have. Incredible good luck is a part of this story.

  6. The Mavs offense is unstoppable, we might be seeing the year luka wins his first ring. Obviously, that firmly places luka as the new face of the league and places him as the likely successor to the Lebron-Kobe-Michael lineage but as a totally different kind of player. The talent in the league is at an all time high, as is parity so could luka usher in a new golden age of basketball? Also, What would a second ring mean for Kyrie? 2 rings as the #2 guy…if he makes some big shots and wins a couple games for the mavs on the way to a title, that makes him an all time great Robin up there with Scottie, Havilicek, Mchale, etc. So how many point guards you taking over Kyrie? Magic, Isiah and Steph are the only PGs to win a title as the best player on their team…so kyrie winning 2 rings as the second best player is pretty high up there for point guard postseason success. Combine that with the fact Kyrie is universally agreed to have the most skilled/creative offensive game of all time and its hard to say he isn't top 5 worthy. Maybe you take stockton as the ultimate pure point guard or CP3 if you value being the best player with elite advanced stats on a team that makes the playoffs every single year for a decade and a half or AI if you wanna pretend he was a PG or Cousy if you wanna go old school or Westbrook if you wanna go for stats but kyrie has an argument for top 5 pg ever. He outplayed Steph in a finals badly where they matched up together for much of the series. A second ring means kyrie is gonna get a lot of love and deservedly so and may even be given a second chance to lead his own team somewhere on a max deal with his next contract! The NBA is in good hands for the next decade for sure.

  7. LeBitch should be in the Cool Story Bro….

They will get ANNIHILATED in the playoffs. They can’t beat the Warriors, who may end up a 12 seed….

  8. Nick is crazy: "Kyrie's playoff moment is the best in NBA HISTORY or on short list"…
Its not even tops since he's been in the league… Ray Allen, Kawhi, Giannis, etc. all better moments

  9. Russel played with the same mindset as Europeans and all others played selfishly. Duncan was the next.

    Jokic is the third

Lebron declined after carrying about promotion on himself.

  10. Lakers are not interesting nor dangerous, love Nick, but the media was not right, they just have Lebron, and reside in LA, they aren’t relevant

  11. Russell inspired his played by being unselfish by focusing on defense when he could have taken over score

Jokic is the offensive version of Russel

Both improved the players playing by their mindsets and unselfish play. Jokic will win 7 rings in the next 15 years because his team will stay with him. Everyone loves playing with him because they look better when he's on the court

  12. If the playoffs started tomorrow, and the Lakers advance from the #9 seed, they will have the privilege of playing the Nuggets in the first round. Bye bye, Lebron, it's been nice knowing ya. Does anyone think the Lakers can beat the Nuggets four times?
