MY REACTION TO GRADEY DICK’S PERFORMANCE IN RAPTORS LOSS | RAPTORS VS KNICKS RECAP

MY REACTION TO GRADEY DICK’S PERFORMANCE IN RAPTORS LOSS | RAPTORS VS KNICKS RECAP

Happy Thursday happy Thursday it’s almost over I can’t wait I can’t wait the agony of defeat is oh it’s like stumping your toe on the end of the bed every day you it’s just and I can accept losses you know what I mean I can accept you know but it’s annoying because I

Know it becomes a subconscious thing after a while no matter how much you notice it or not it breeds a losers existence subconsciously and by default you you’ll have people start doing this [ __ ] that we’ve been seeing over the last couple years soon as we lose three

In a row oh we got to rebuild we lose two in a row we got to rebuild let’s look into the draft you know what I mean we lose to a team that nobody expects well let’s start looking at the draft cuz we can if we tank right now we can

You know what I mean it’s becoming habitual over the past few years that people have adopted more of a loser’s mentality and try to rationalize that lifestyle I I’m sorry I can’t subscribe to it losing is losing is losing to me even if it’s strategic even if it’s

Inadvertent even if it’s a surprise like it’s the end result sucks you know what I mean so you’re never going to convince me that it’s okay it’s a necessary evil but it’s a evil nonetheless right but it’s starting to breed especially in the young kids they don’t know anything

About their subconscious and their ego and their super ego they this [ __ ] is feeding it next you know losing is going to become okay I’ll rebuild next year I [ __ ] my whole life up this year and next year I’ll rebuild no you can’t do that as a as an

Adult especially if you have kids you have a responsibility to plug those holes and make it right immediately you can’t just accept losses it’s it bother especially if you can’t accept losses in your life I can’t accept losses it’s I’m sorry I I never been in that situation where I could just like

Oh just losing is all right we just the strategy you know strategery and it’s all about this n they you’re taking on some subconscious habits you’re not going to be able to you might you might need a psychologist to get out of that web that you [ __ ] weave

But even though I don’t subscribe to the tanking or the Strategic tanking I got to accept that it’s a reality but this like but then there’s some bright spots there’s some magnificent bright spots like Grady Dick’s progress he the kid the kid has so much

Of a upside that it makes this moment a little bit more bearable for me you know because I really like I said I can’t I hate it like anybody that knows me knows I hate nah I’m sorry I can’t even put it in words how how how how it bothers me

Especially as you get older and you know enough and it’s like it’s avoidable but you know being a fan of something you have less control over the outcome you just have to accept it right but um there are some bright spots like gry dick is one of those bright spots for me

You know what I mean last night we saw OG get the stand in ovation had a double double even though I’m not sold on him I don’t care what y’all say he until he gets the skill sets that compliment the the the genetic Lottery that he won like he’s never going to be

The player that y’all are that people will profess that he is because you see it in spots because the situation is so perfect and me being me I know anybody could flourish in that environment in that space But it it’s one of those things where I know he can do more I

Know he can be more and until I see the the scratching of that surface I’m going always feel like he left some money on the table cuz there’s no reason for precious not to be a $100 million guy because he has the genetic Lottery he’s

6′ n he he plays defense he can rebound he can he just has to polish certain fundamentals and get it to a pro level because the other stuff those are harder to come by those are genetics that’s DNA that’s life that’s ancestrial but when you talking about skill sets

Those are things he he has control over and in that’s his situation he has to take control over that that can stop him from making as much money as he possibly can and being the player you know what I mean sky sky could be the limit he can

Carve out a whole new identity if he just gets his skill sets to the NBA level until then I I’m always going to be all right I believe I need to see more you know what I mean but um it’s bigger than numbers when it comes to a

Guy like prua it’s just this there’s this I see him being more of a factor and more dominant if he had skills he could possibly be a Latrell spr well type of guy cuz Latrell spr coming into the NBA wasn’t known as an offensive guy he was known as a defensive person he

Played defense at Alabama SEC Defensive Player the year he was known as a Defender got to the league polished his offense became insane that’s all I’m saying that that could be the possibility for precious if it could happen it’s possible just got to put the work in but watching Grady

Dick play is is it gives me something to look forward to continuously and it makes me optimistic about the season about what what the future could for us at shooting guard you know I mean it’s one less thing to worry about for me you know what I mean because he has so much

Potential and you see him realistically progressing towards making that potential a reality cuz that’s that’s the job of of a professional that’s why you being you get drafted because of your potential to help us solve these problems that’s why you’re here because you can potentially be a solution that’s

It you’re not here to be friends you’re not here to to sell sneakers you’re here to help us solve a problem that’s why we draft you that’s why we pick you out of the many others that we could have picked before you or instead of you he’s here and he’s solving you see

Him activ actively becoming more valuable to us in that regard he’s one of those bright like you can’t ask for more you know what I mean you can’t just as long as he continues to make progress he’s going to be a big part of our future and that’s that’s

Important because sometimes I would rather have someone who makes me feel optimistic than someone who has to live up to certain expectations CU that’s what comes after the optimism after the optimism comes the expectations cuz he’s proven like 6 fo8 rookie shooter scorer who who can do more than just shoot and

Score he can rebound he can playmake he could attack off the he has a lot that he can do as a basketball player so you can’t just limit him to Shooter scorer he’s an overall allaround basketball player at 6’8 and that is what you want you want

To have more you want to get more bang for your buck you want to get a a better experience when you when you give your attention to something like he makes it a valuable experience and that’s what we want we don’t want to watch games and feel like y’all could have been doing

Something else for two hours we watch him play it feels like all right we got hey I got something to hang my hat on I got something great to talk about and and you you care about you know him being a big part of our future and our

Team’s production in the future winning and learning and growing together this he knows how to play I like his game you know what I mean his combination of talent and skill are something to to be proud of as far as a pick is concerned because we you

See how these kids is panning out they wanted us to pay they wanted us to trade Pascal for scoot Henderson like y’all are nuts and then what happened and I like scoot Henderson but he took some major steps back as the second pick you go to the G League then

You got to go to the bench like and then you have to build just yourself back up which listen which is not a problem but that is not your expectation of a second pick you’re supposed to be more NBA ready than anybody else that’s been drafted and y’all keep chasing after

These guards after guards after guards they’re giving you the Prototype that you want to see but they’re not giving you the fundamentals they’re not giving you the mentality they’re not giving you the the the consistent skills being executed at the pro level they don’t even have understanding of what it is to

Be a ball player at the NBA level you’re hoping more of who they already are naturally translates to the NBA until they figure it out or as they figure it out what you’re not even getting that but they’re learning how to finesse everybody into showing you what you want

To see okay 6’3 to 6’6 or 6’2 to 6’6 guard who could dribble shoot I’m going to give you the same prototype that archetype and then you’re going to draft them and then you’re going to see that it was all the rules you got the Honda you got the Ferrari with the Honda

Engine and now you mad sometimes it takes you know really lifting up that hood and seeing oh oh that’s some [ __ ] right there we got a chance to see grd dick and he has he’s exactly what we needed him to be he came with the right amount of expectation the

Right amount of possibilities he put in the right amount of work look at where he is now you look at all the other rookies that they have they’re having problems outside of you know the the the kid that’s playing playing at um at what you call it for Charlotte he’s hooping I

Like him you know what I mean and then you know Victor who’s in my eyes Rudy go 3.0 but we going to talk about him later he’s not going to be the greatest ever but he’s going to be really good that’s all that was my point the whole time

He’s not going to be this Sensational player that you think he’s going to be in comparison to all the other greats he’s going to be great in his era but I that’s cool but you just can’t compare him to Tim Duncan or big ticket or anything like that that’s all I’m saying

And we can’t we can’t underestimate or Overlook how much work he had to put in to get to where he is right now like he’s like he’s NBA ready right now right now he’s ready for the next step which is to be our starting uh shooting guard option from here on

Out there is no better option on this team at shooting guard than him there isn’t one and I told y’all what this was going to be from the start and y’all told me he was going to go to the G League which I understood but I knew he would end up working his

Way and getting some starts and then it was going to be undeniable going into the next season that he’s our guy at shooting guard it’s very hard for a young player to check his ego especially when you’re coming in with all of that from the NCAA the respect the admiration

The praise and then you get to the NBA and everything you’re back to square one it’s a blow to the ego the fact that he’s able to adapt and hold himself accountable and and and really show that he is disciplined and understanding of where he’s at and how much different

This place is compared to where he was last year which was the NCAA tournament which was at Kansas and to really be mentally tough to accept the fact that I need to improve just to make the next step a reality which is to become the starter you got to you got to respect

That cuz a lot of these kids it is it’s like pulling teeth when you start to touch on their ego and and they start to realize yo listen you I know what they told you getting up to this point and it’s very hard to let go of what they told you but this

Level you got work to do or you may never see the court you might have to go to another League where you can be what you used to be but up here there’s too many like you that are better there’s too many like you that are coming behind

You there’s too many like you that are here fighting for the next step you got work to do you got to get your ego out the way check that [ __ ] and get to work yeah you in the great this most exciting part of your life you getting

Paid good you you you living on your own you’re young you’re healthy you got the greatest one of the greatest jobs in the world you can’t it’s time to work you can’t play like you want to play even though I know you sacrificed 10 years to

Get here you ain’t get a chance to hang out or play as much yeah you can’t do that now either this ain’t the time you know what I mean so it’s hard to convince young kids that there’s more work to do after they’ve put in 10 years

Of work just to get to this point you know what I mean and and as he gets and as Grady dick gets stronger pause no freaky and as Grady gets stronger he’s going to be more comfortable at the NBA level cuz right now you see him doing like last night I

Saw him doing some things and I’m seeing some consistencies in this game it’s looking like that Kansas game translate damn near 80% so far 80% now we all agree he got to put on some muscle how much what 10 more pounds of muscle which is easy to do over the

Summer yo he’s going to be a problem he’s going to be a problem that 13 pick last year is a that was magnificent magnificent he’s going to be a factor in our future success he could be an Allstar at some point in his career within the next three or four

Years like he has he’s a more for me when you look at Kyle cor’s game and you look at all right Grady dick has some similarities in his game but then it’s that other [ __ ] that he does he grabs rebounds he gets assist I know there’s questions about his defense but that’s

Going to get better over time you have to understand he’s guarding the best basketball players in the world with the rules the way that they are remember the rules have a big part in how guys defend and no one’s really allowed to play defense and they’re picking and choosing

When they call fouls and who they call fouls on and him being a rookie he has to learn how to navigate through those Waters but he’s going to get better defensively but he has so much upside of filling the stat sheet on top he’s more than just a

Shooter you know what I mean and you can’t ask for more than that you know what I mean from a young player cuz a lot of kids just want to give you what they’ve been giving people and then when it’s not enough there’s a problem you’re

The it’s it’s not me it’s y’all and you see kids buck and the money makes them a little more arrogant and a little more comfortable with the fact I made it in actuality there’s a difference between making it in life and making it in the NBA and a lot of NBA players don’t

Understand the difference between the two we talk about you as a basketball player we’re not talking about you in your life yeah you’ve become successful but at your job yeah it’s a lot to be desired and there’s a lot to talk about we don’t care about your regular life

That’s not our business we we we the only reason why we know you is because you play basketball so that’s what we address and that’s that’s where we have the conversation that’s our point of you know reference we don’t know what you do outside we a meet you at Starbucks we

Don’t know you we don’t want to know you we just want to know the basketball player what you do at your job just like when you see us work at you know you know Costco you don’t want to know us outside of Costco you yeah that’s the

Guy that works at Costco that’s what you identify us as you know what I mean so a lot of these kids have a problem with making progress and getting out of their ego but the fact that he’s he was able to do that and now we have a a kid

Who can do a little bit of everything and it shows the benefits of a kid being fundamentally sound and taking pride in not being just one thing a lot of kids will put all their eggs in one basket and say I’m fast I can shoot I can score

That’s my bag that’s all I want people to know me nah cuz what if the other guy can do that too and what if you’re on the team where other guys do that better what else can you do now you you have 10 years of not do of neglect when it comes

To other skills now you have to develop him and you see these guys dribbling and they’re looking like a they’re looking like a deer in headlights like Bambi the like the feet are off the The Core ain’t strong they dribbling all they can’t even really dribble with they left when

They practicing I’m like oh how do you get to the league and you can’t go the left is weak like that every Pro I ever met when they dribble a basketball I’m I’m going tell y’all something if you’ve ever watched a pro dribble a basketball it don’t even sound like when we dribble

It that’s the first thing it sounds different no matter how big their hands are or how small their hands are when they dribble it don’t sound like when we dribble their ball their hands are stronger their ball control is different like the the fundamentals are so sharp going between your it’s like straight

Lines you can see it you can see the straight lines like I there when when they go into those drills and those fundamentals of ball handling there is just this pop the sharp like it’s just PR level still even after they retire you like wow that’s that’s it don’t even sound

You can hear it it don’t even sound you can say it’s a different basketball no it don’t even sound the same when they dribble and we dribble just them doing the fundamentals is on such another level it even sounds different when it go through the net it sounds different

When we shoot and when they shoot when it go through the net it pop different for them it don’t touch like like sometimes it don’t even touch nothing on a reg like consistently they come off the backboard different how they lay it up different how if they actually jump

Their head is at The Rim like how they and camera angles and how they zoom in like back in my day the the grimy 90s the camera was a little further back so they looked a little smaller and when they finger rolled it looked like they were a little further until now they’re

Zooming in a little more you like them [ __ ] they right there and when you go to games and you see Michael Jordan is really 6 for6 for real in real life Scotty Pippen ain’t little like none of them no NBA players little it’s the camera they pull the

Camera back now they’re pushing the camera forward so now you’re seeing oh they’re right there for real for real they’re a lot they’re right near the basket all the time shooting from three ain’t really nothing for them it ain’t that they can’t shoot is that the technique is different because your

Hands how strong you are like how tall you are is different than when we shoot some sometimes their hands are too big for the basketball sometimes you know their hands are are are perfect for when they catch the ball some guys hands are too small despite being 6′ three to

Really shoot the way they want to shoot because it slips especially when you your hands get oily and sweaty during games like you know what I mean sometimes the the lotion that you put on your hands before games that might not dry so now it’s slippery for the whole

Game cuz now you’re sweating on top of that it you might use hand sanitizer you might do other it could be anything that attributes to the fact that you can’t shoot like that but it’s like it’s my point is it’s totally different when they do it and when we do it you know

What I mean and you watch this kid Elevate from that college level and see so much of his game translate now like who like a lot of kids use their athleticism that’s what translates first in the NBA athleticism that’s what translates first later on they develop skills this

Kid is coming in with the right combination of athleticism and skills they’re they’re simultaneously translating this kid is going to be phenomenal man he’s going to be phenomenal because he’s more than just a shot maker and he’s going to there’s going to be a ushering in of kids who are more than just

Fast more than just youthful athleticism cuz when you turn 30 that [ __ ] gone over for that you know what I’m saying so it’s it’s going to be more so about skills can you play what how do you see the game how do you think how do you perform when you don’t have that

Athleticism that you used to have back in the day that’s why I’m I’m interested in seeing what Anthony Edwards looks like when that athleticism starts to fade I don’t wish an injury on him but father time is undefeated he’s going to get older and it’s going to fade he’s

Been dunking on guys since he was like 13 I’ve been hearing about Anthony Edwards for a few years when he got to Georgia it was he’s the football player that dominates basketball he could have went to the NFL that’s a fact if he wanted if he wanted

To play football he could have played for the University of Georgia also and could have went to the NFL he’s that gifted athletic when he says he can play All Sports he can he’s genetically put together to dominate and perform well enough to make millions of dollars at

Every sport he ever wants to be a part of that’s realistically so his athleticism for and for a lot of kids that athleticism and youth that translates first that’s what people are are are attracted to Speed and Agility and coordination of the young then when they get old they become

That old dude that just drinks coffee before games to get that caffeine Rush get a couple espressos but when you have a kid that has skills and he can pass and he can move without the ball and he gets out there in transition he can hit that

Corner three he can hit the the the shoulder three he can hit the key three and it’s just he’s a asset to the team cuz you can put him anywhere and he can still do what he does magnificent that’s all I can say pure magnificence and we have every

Reason to be ambitious we have every reason we have every reason to believe in this kid every reason a lot of young kids don’t get put through what he got put through they just let them just you know what I mean now they’re starting to focus more on the development because at

Some point I’m going to have to pay you some real money so I have like and and and if you’re not ready now you’re not going to be ready when it’s time to pay you so I got to make you the player I need you to be so that when I pay you

It’s Justified you know what I mean as opposed to I’m overpaying for the minimum we watched you not work and not give us what we wanted but I still have to give you $100 million because of the scale or $200 million because of the scale that’s tough to deal with for a

Business but when you have a kid who who does exactly what you ask him to do there’s no ego attached there’s no feelings hurt now look at him he’s ready for war he’s ready for battle and we need him tell me what you think in the comments section that’s the only joy I

Pulled from it from this

Gradey Dick had become a bright spot for me on this last leg of the season.

  1. It was a surreal watching the Knicks molliwop the Raps. The tables have turned on our domination on the east for so long. My hope is that we can quickly turn our team around to winning basketball. For now we have to cut the weeds before we can smell the roses.

  2. While we are in the Tank process, there is a Silver Lining. We have a real chance to run our developing players and give them time to find our future bench players for next year AND to develop guys like Grady Dick and getting Gary Trent Jr. to develop his game to the next level as he was drifting for a while. Now Gary is complete

  3. Gradey's passing is special. I don't know if people appreciate it enough, or they just don't see it.

  4. Yeah every night it’s looking more like gtj is getting traded. Gradey is consistently doing what we asked of Gary and more. Plus it makes sense from a roster construction point for next season, guard could be overloaded and without a trade

  5. Whats cool is we dont need to win these games to prove a point. Its our bench here, its their job just to maintian a lead or keep it competative. Only 3 of these guys like Grady and Nwora are going to get real minutes and they are actually holding it down against top seed teams. Add some high pick draft players and 4 starters returning, its a promising direction. Question is do we draft a center to replace Jontay, or a backup for quickly.

  6. Being a teachable player , that listens and hears from his coaches, can grow into an adaptable and useful player.

  7. Trust in Masai, Scottie has rj and quickley…he has the help, time to develop them like demar and kyle!

  8. You gonna address Garrett Temple after calling him social worker? @nbachev the guy is showing us he’s an actual leader something we need.

  9. I am so happy for Gradey. He held his head high when things were not going well. He is way more than a shooter and has the whole package. The in season growth is amazing. Imaging a summer of strength and conditioning. He is our starting SG. He got the in between game etc.

  10. Look at the bright side next season winning 50 games will make Scottie Barnes a MVP candidate. Because it’s obvious this team cannot win without him.

  11. I see this coming miles away these Kat’s develop the art of losing and the worse part about these kats smile about it like they’re becoming comfortable with losing. Detroit Piston comfort lol

  12. I can tell Barnes, Barett, and IQ hate sitting on that bench and seeing them loses rack up, I hope this gives them a fire 🔥 and desire to go off next season, and put the league on notice. #TORONTOFOREVER

  13. I'm with you 100% on loosing, I never allow it to be apart of my DNA. I find it strange when I find people cheering it on for a lotto pick When we have proven many time we can find talent ANYWHERE!

  14. With all that's going on, the one thing that has made me happy and excited is the way Gradey has been playing the past couple of months. He's only 20 years old!!!, he might end up being a hidden gem 💎 in that draft that Masai struck gold on.
    #TORONTOFOREVER

  15. Yep, he's taking Gary's job, pretty much written in stone by now, I think…..I also agree with you about Precious. This guys should be one of the best 2-way players in the league, but he's not. Unfortunately, the one aspect of his game that has yet to be developed is the one between his ears. He does waaaay too many bonehead things on the court. But the potentials are all there, you can clearly see it. He's just too big of a Bonehead for his own good…..

  16. People forget we have the damn near whole starting lineup out, next season will be exciting gradey korver will be big rotation piece for us next season off the bench. Scottie gonna add another weapon to his game offensively and take a leap, either RJ or quickly will hopefully take the next leap, we gonna get another nice piece over the summer, we need to hire the 2019 staff to make sure the players stay healthy, we need a legit backup pg and solid starting caliber big man

  17. lack of size.. killer for us. what was it 50 to 25 lol. But I am not worried… the team is hurt. but yes… Dick is pure. and i am feeling JFL…

  18. We trade the heart and we lose the whole team. Now I am supposed to be happy with this kid? Masai needs to be traded…..and he can keep his three magic beans.

  19. Best breakdown of Gradey Dick and rookies in general I’ve heard ALL YEAR. Congrats friend, you have a new diehard fan. I believe in this kid’ !

  20. With precious… a player is only as good as is dribble will take him. That starts at age 10. He wont ever get it.

  21. I stopped watching 2 weeks ago. Tanking is hard to watch. I guess its on to next year. At least Gradey is getting run, could be a blessing, and i bet we miss the pick

  22. it was only a matter of time before his game translate to the professional level. i cant imagine how much better he will be with Barnes, IQ, and Barrett on the same floor.

  23. Except for possibly Jo*ntay, I personally don’t believe that these players have been trying to tank. I do believe that the Raps have been learning LOTS. Cheers.

  24. I like that when Gradey said at the beginning of the year that he needed to put the work in, he meant it. I respect a worker. It's not always fun, or glamorous, but it's what's needed. He also said he listens to the coaches. He's ready to learn. I respect that. I'm excited to see what they're going to build moving forward. This transition time is not an easy thing, but you can see that we've got the building blocks. Thanks for your analysis.
