Why are the Detroit Pistons so bad?!

I think between Troy Weaver yelling at fans and all it’s just the level of the news that has broken around the Detroit Pistons in the last couple of weeks that has just really been so deflating and yeah you think you look at the you look

At the team you look at the core you look at the best players and you’re like there is something here but the more and more I think about it the more and more I start to just be like oh we’re trapping ourselves again like I’ve said

All season I don’t put a lot of this on the players I put a lot of this on Troy Weaver and Monty Williams Troy Weaver does not know what he’s doing and it’s so wild for a team to be this bad for this number of years it’s unacceptable

  1. I still have a hard time finding a team that had to fall so hard before bottoming out. When Weaver took over we still had Josh Smith on our balance sheet.

All the recent rebuilds started their rebuilds while they were able to trade their remaining assets. From that standpoint we needed to start rebuilding when we traded for Griffin instead of taking that last stab.

The best return that Weaver got on an asset from prior to the rebuild was when we were able to get a pick swap with the sign and trade for Christian Wood. We got seconds for everyone else and just had to eat Griffins salary.

I really think Weaver's inability to turn the team around has to be looked at with that taken into account. I don't know if any GM has ever had a worse starting situation.

I've also started to come around on Monty after seeing some of the development of these players later in the season. Cade, Ausar, Duren, Stew, Ivey and even Wiseman have made serious steps towards becoming better players. To the point where I would not vomit if Wiseman was still on the team next year.

Also the Pistons outside of lucking into Cade have had some of the worst lottery luck. Every single player taken in front of Ivey would fit Cade so much better. Being the most devastating of only two teams to lose ground in last year's lottery. Then 2020 seeming to be the literal worst draft to have multiple picks in, with COVID making scouting nearly impossible. Less than half of that first round received rookie extensions, that seems unimaginable to me.

It's just the most ridiculous series of bad luck after bad luck for this team. Yet somehow, like the glutton for punishment I am, I keep seeing hope.

  2. Man how did you end up a fan of the Bengals, Pistons, Mets, and Canes lol

It's astounding the most consistent one of the bunch is the Canes and that's only because they make the playoffs every few years and almost always take someone with em

  3. This organization is trash, starting with higher management…It started with them selecting Milicic over Melo, Wade & Bosh…
