Everybody Eats in the Sacramento Kings’ Domination of the LA Clippers! | Locked On Kings

Tonight the golden one Center was a giant buffet and everyone on the Sacramento Kings was eating the Kings dominate the Los Angeles Clippers and it sounds crazy to say but even without Malik monk this was probably the best overall bench performance we’ve seen from Sacramento this season we’ll break

It all down right here on lockon Kings you are locked on Kings your daily Sacramento Kings podcast part of of the locked on podcast Network your team every day and now ladies and gentlemen it is that time time for another episode of Locked on Kings hello and welcome into lockon

Kings your podcast hub for Sacramento Kings coverage all season long my name is Matt George I have the privilege of being your host here I’m a Sacramento Sports Anchor and reporter for ABC 10 News man there’s beating LA and then there’s the Kings dominating la which is

What we got tonight apparently this was a rivalry game I don’t know if this was like another rivalry week for for the NBA or whatever it was the kings were advertising this in the arena as a rivalry game which I don’t necessarily understand that apparently the Kings and

Warriors on a rivalry the Kings and Lakers on the Rivalry but Kings and Clippers are maybe that was because of their 175 to 74 win or whatever it was uh going back to last season well we didn’t get that tonight right that was an offensive showcase tonight was the

Exact opposite the first like three or four minutes of this game were ugly like neither team could score the Clippers got to the foul line shot 10 free throws in the first like five or six minutes of this game there were turnovers it was just not a pretty

Basketball game I guess you could call it a defensive battle early if you want to look on the positive side of the thing of things but the good news is the Sacramento Kings work their way out of it the Los Angeles Clippers with the exception of kind of one stretch in the

Second quarter where they brought a 16-point Kings lead down to four they didn’t look good really at all tonight now the Clippers like the kings were short-handed they’re missing kawh Leonard kawh is their best player absolutely but you still got Paul George you still got Russell Westbrook you

Still still got James Harden who didn’t look like he cared to do anything other than pass the ball tonight you still got good talent on this Clippers roster so if your reaction to the Kings beating the Utah Jazz the other night was okay but it was it’s just the Jazz right it’s

Okay good team win but they just did it against the Jazz you can’t have that reaction tonight because even short-handed this Clippers team is still incredibly dangerous and the Kings beat him in All facets of this game I have to start with the bench right I have to

Talk about the king’s bench tonight and that’s with three outstanding performances from Three King starters the big three in Sacramento tonight had excellent games I’m going to have to push that to the next segment of the freaking podcast that’s how important I thought the king’s bench was tonight again like

I said in the introduction it feels crazy to say and I don’t mean this as an insult at all to Malik monk because we know he’s the Sixth Man of the Year he’s the best bench player in the league this year without a doubt but as a whole I thought this was the

Best and most impactful game from Sacramento’s second unit period Malik has had massive Nights by himself where he’s coming in with his assists and his points scored like the Kings have had nights where they score 30 points off the bench and Malik monk has like 25 of

Them right so I’m not saying that this performance tonight was better than anything Malik monk has done this season with that second unit I’m certainly not suggesting that the second unit is better because Malik monk is not playing with him so don’t even go down that road

What I’m saying is this Kings bench unit came in and I thought not just Chang the game but set the tone that the starters came in and had to keep going with and pick up right it starts in my opinion with Trey lles Trey lles to me I asked

Mike Brown about this before the game started TR LS I think now with Monk Trey is the captain of the second unit right he brings the leadership he brings hopefully some scoring and some floor spacing which is very important for that second unit very important for the

King’s offense as a whole he brings rebounding he also brings like a defensive physicality a defensive toughness Trey lles is the captain of that second unit and I say that with full respect to Davon Mitchell and I’m about to sing the Praises of daveon Mitchell here in just a little bit

Because he absolutely deserves it I’ll get to that in a second but Trey I think now is is going to be kind of the leader and the guy that is going to Captain that second unit for the remainder of this season into the playoffs until Malik monk returns and hopefully the

Kings are still playing by the time Malik monk can return Trey L tonight 15 points six of 11 shooting from the field had three three pointers four rebounds five assists one steel one block pay attention to that one steal one block that’s going to be a theme for tonight

For a lot of different Kings players you’re going to hear that over and over and over again for a bunch of different Kings players tonight but all over the stat sheet made a solid defensive impact came out of the game uh or came into the game shooting the ball

Really well backto back games where he’s had really solid offensive performances Off the Bench he had 11 points in the win over Utah 15 points tonight these are the first two games that Tre LS has played for Sacramento in quite some time and he’s come out and made these two big

Offensive impacts with Malik monk being out and what I love about Trey LS too is he was the the interview by Scott Mo Kings PA and announcer you hear him he’s the voice that introduces lockon Kings every episode Scott pulls Trey La aside and does like an in Arena interview and

And treay gets to light the beam and and one of the questions that Scott asks Trey is just about how this second unit performed and how this team is performing period and and one of the first things out of Trey’s mouth is accountability right we got to hold each

Other accountable Trey La is the guy who reportedly was the one who called the players only meeting earlier on uh this season before the Kings put together their really really solid month of March at least defens Trey ly is a leader in this locker room like I said he’s the captain of the

Second unit now but he’s a leader period on this Kings team and I’ve just been very impressed with his impact and we can see how big of a difference Trey’s presence alone is to how the Kings play a full 48 minutes I’m not saying you’re

Going to get 11 points or 15 points at a try every single night although you might need it more nights than not if you want to still be playing when Malik mon is available to come back but this version of Trey La if it’s the best that

It he can be it’s more than the Sacramento Kings will be happy with so love this from Trey but I said I’m gonna sing the Praises of daveon Mitchell and and I’m I’m that’s probably not going to do with Justice I thought this was damn near a perfect game for

Davon right he comes into the game he’s always got that off off night defensive presence that he has right and of course he brought that he had times guarding James Harden had even times where he switched on to Paul George just a guarded Russell Westbrook a lot like

Just this pesky on ball Defender that we know and love from Davon Mitchell right but in addition to that his offensive game has just looked so freaking good over the last month and some change right and what I love about his offensive game is not just that the shot

Is falling because tonight Davon Mitchell 14 points four of seven from three-point range four rebounds three assists right it’s not just that the shot is falling it’s the confidence which he’s taking it if I were to tell you a month ago hey how do you feel about Davon Mitchell taking seven threes

In a game you’re probably going oh God how much are the Kings down by that Davon just has the green light to shoot whatever he wants that’s not the case at all Davon is shooting within Rhythm right and so much of the last two seasons really Davon davon’s entire

Kings career but really the last two seasons under Mike Brown has been we know how impactful Davon is on the defensive end of the floor but offensively can he do enough can he fit how does he fit in Sacramento’s offense he’s fitting by providing a speed and a

Burst with the basketball that only de’arra Fox can match or top on this king’s team right Davon Mitchell is freaking fast and he’s doing a really good job getting to his spots and using that speed correctly he’s also got killer handles that I don’t think we give him enough credit for he’ll he’ll

Cross a couple guys he’ll shake a couple of guys he he he he murdered the ankles of Dante exom of the Dallas Mavericks here last week so davon’s got handles davon’s got speed and he’s finding the right way to use it and in addition to that he’s taking seven threes because

They’re the right kind of shots he’s not just pulling up uh in transition or just pulling up on an isolation three or anything like that it’s in the flow of the offense he’s shooting them with confidence and he’s knocking them down Mike Brown is going to give him the

Green light to take 14 threes not just seven if they’re in the flow of the offense if they’re spray threes in that way I thought this was a seriously a near-perfect performance from Davon you have the points you have the the shooting with confidence you have the assists you have some rebounding you

Have the great defense on top of it all I don’t know what more we can ask from Davon Mitchell here and look I I won’t say I’ve been the most critical of Davon Mitchell’s game here in Sacramento because I haven’t been but there have been times and I will

Absolutely admit there have been times where I was like I think Davon Mitchell’s time here in Sacramento is done I I think I’ve said that at least a couple of times here on the lockon Kings podcast over the course of this season I’m happy to be wrong right I think

Davon Mitchell right now we don’t want to overreact too much but from the month of March onward if this is what you would tell me that uh that Davon would be consistently over the course of an NBA season every year of his career I think he’s on Monty McNair’s

List of guys that you got to keep this offseason now I think we all agree regardless of what happens in the playoffs from here on out I don’t think the Kings can get get away with running this team back Monty has some decisions to make on which guys he wants to keep

And which guys he wants to move on from a month ago I would have told you Davon Mitchell is absolutely on the move on from list especially with the emergence of Keon Ellis I’m changing my tune right now with how good he’s playing and he’s going to continue to get opportunity

He’s going to continue to play not just because Malik Monk Is hurt but because Mike Brown has found a way to consistently get him time along with Keon Ellis and these three guard lineups that have been working so so well so shout out Davon Mitchell uh if you

Listen to or or watched my uh my lock on Kings live show that I did yesterday with uh Jerry Reynolds and Gary Gerald both of them sang davon’s praises and Jerry Reynolds was one of those guys that was like like Point sometimes point guards like take a little bit of time

Davon is in his third season right he’s still settling into how good that he can possibly be even as an older rookie coming into this league so if they see something great in him sometimes we got to trust them even if if we don’t feel the same way Davon is playing incredible

Basketball right now and he he deserves all the praise and all the attention uh for it so shout out Davon Mitchell and then Alex Len too y’all know how big of a fan I am of Alex Len right it seems like every time Alex Len comes into the

Game good things happen and it’s because he comes in and plays limited stretches and limited Windows he has the very tough task of filling the minutes when Damon sabonis isn’t in the game and sabonis does so much on so many different levels right that we’re not expecting Alex Len to come in and

Continue to to play the way sabonis plays but Alex doesn’t he’s impactful in other ways like tonight Alex Len Four Points okay great seven rebounds one steal three blocks in 12 minutes those three blocks he had within the first five minutes of when he was in the game

Alex Len came into the game tonight and he set the tone defensively that Davon Mitchell and Trey L continued with that second unit and when the starters came back in They carried it out through the remainder of this game Alex Len to me is the guy that planted the flag in the

Paint for Sacramento and said Clippers you’re not scoring I’m going to use a nerdy Lord of the Rings reference Alex Len was Gandalf tonight who slammed his staff down and said You shall not pass he started he set that defensive tone and the Kings followed suit I love Alex

Lynn man I think he’s such a solid pickup he’s such a solid player for this Kings team to have for the king’s depth he’s a guy that if he play five minutes he can make an impact if he plays 12 minutes he can make an impact if he

Plays two minutes he can make an impact such a big fan of Alex Len always stays ready always seems to provide great production in some way shape or form love the way he played let’s hear from Trey lyes Davon Mitchell and head coach Mike Brown about this bench performance

As a whole uh we we know that there’s you know we we’re missing a lot with Malik his play making his shot making you know his leadership on the court and stuff like that so I just think everybody was capable and ready to step up in big ways aen was humongous on the

Defensive end for us tonight blocking shots and then offensive rebounding and stuff like that so um you know we’re all capable and now we’re just getting you know more touches and stuff like that with Malik out and uh we’re we’re all stepping up and and making the right

Plays and doing what we’re supposed to do I think we just embracing the physicality um I think we love it um I mean we helping helping each other one another being there for each other taking charges um I mean Keon had six fouls tonight so he’s being physical I

Mean it was a lot of a lot of TI tack fouls we I think we’re being physical are we just getting ready for the playoff but at the end of the day I I thought our bench was absolutely fantastic um Davon was and he’s been really good for us you know we talk

About trying to find the scoring that we’re missing with uh you know Kevin being out and with Malik being out and you know Davon he’s taken on a little bit more of the scoring load for us and playmaking load he’s been F fantastic on both ends of the floor uh train man he

Just he plays so hard and he’s another big body and uh you know he can shoot the ball he space the floor but you know his 15 davon’s 14 how hard those guys play how impactful they are defensively uh but at the end of the day freaking

Alex L man what a man he was tonight I mean the three blocks he played 12 minutes and he was a plus 18 and 12 minutes versus a very good Clipper team he impacted the game on both ends of the floor he just plays the right way he was

He played a beautiful beautiful game of basketball uh in the short amount of time and you speaking about talking about seven rebounds he had seven rebounds in those 12 minutes so he was our DP uh fantastic game by him in addition to how great the king’s bench

Was the team as a whole clean swept the war in the trenches and if you look at a box score like go to nba.com and and and you go to the Kings and and and Clippers game tonight you’ll see a a link that says game book clink

On click on game book and that’ll send you to that’ll that’ll give you the official box score which this is what it looks like right this is an official NBA box score that they they put out it’s kind of hard to see but at the very

Bottom there you’ll see like a group of lines those are three major stats that I call the war in the trenches or the battles in the trenches these are three really important team versus team stats that often times decide a game and the Kings had a clean sweep of these three

Stats the first first one points in the paint the Kings destroyed the Clippers points in the paint 46- 30 the Clippers shot four or 15 of 41 in the paint that’s been a big theme for Sacramento while they’ve had all this success in the month of March I

Think if you include this first game in April with all of March I think the Kings have held their opponents under a 100 points like five different times I would bet go to bet in all five of those games that the kings were holding their opponents to probably 45 points or less

There have been a handful of games so the Kings have actually lost that they’ve held opponents under 40 points in the paint they’re figuring out how to do a better job of Defending on the interior we know that that hasn’t been the biggest weakness of the Kings this

Season it’s been their perimeter defense and their three-point defense that’s been the biggest problem but Sacramento is doing a consistent job of of defending the paint and making it difficult for teams around the rim and that showing shown through tonight especially with a team that’s is loaded

With players that can attack the basket as the Clippers are so you dominate the points in the paint then there’s Second Chance points you dominate that as well 20-4 in Second Chance points for the Sacramento Kings I don’t need to say more right the Kings destroyed the

Clippers on the second chance points and then in Fast Break points I wouldn’t call this a destruction because the Kings only had seven fast break points but let’s call it a shut out because the Los Angeles Clippers didn’t score a single fast break point this entire game

In fact they were 0 of four in Fast Break opportunities so not only did they not score at in the fast break in transition they barely got out in transition and it’s not because the Kings shot 60% from the field and there were no opportunities it’s because the

Kings defense did an excellent job getting back and defending the Clippers in transition tonight so a clean sweep in the trenches the bench plays maybe their best performance of the season I haven’t even talked about the starters yet but I’ll correct that here in just a second today’s episode of the lock on

Kings podcast is brought to you by my good friends at sacyard Community Tap House shout out sacyard for giving lockon Kings a venue to hold our first ever live show so many of you came out to support not just sacyard but support lockon Kings to meet Gary Gerald and

You by prize picks prize picks is America’s number one fantasy sports app with over 3 million members myself included it’s the easiest the most exciting way to get in on the action while you watch your favorite sports and players you just pick more or less on

Two or more player stats and watch the winnings roll in now I’ll be honest tonight my prize picks didn’t go too well despite the Kings playing as well as they did but that’s okay just to give you perspective I’ve been playing prize picks for only about four or five months

This season and I have won over 720 playing prize picks it is not necessarily easy to win but there’s so many different ways for you to win you can get creative so many different players so many different stat types you can you can uh do like play prize picks

While you’re playing with the MLB and the NBA at the same time a combination of games they have all sorts of amazing promotions like tonight was Taco Tuesday which means I got a discounted uh amount of points for Luca donic tonight against the Golden State Warriors normally he’s

Like at more or less than 33 and a half points tonight that number was down to 27 a half I took the more on that uh so there’s so many unbelievably fun and creative ways for you to play and make money on prize picks if you’re considering playing do it and and you’re

Going to get an awesome bonus right out of the gate because when you download the app today and use code locked on NBA you’ll get a first deposit match up to $100 meaning you deposit $100 you get 100 on top of it right then in there you

Deposit 50 you get 50 it’s more money for you to make money on prize picks pick more pick less it’s that easy sorry starters I know three of you had fantastic games tonight really that’s not fair cuz all five made important impacts Harrison Barnes only had six

Points but there were two big threes in the third quarter to help the Kings create separation Keon Ellis didn’t really score tonight I don’t think he scored at all but had like seven rebounds as you’re starting two guards so all five starters made positive impacts in this game but three starters

In particular Keegan Murray dearen Fox damont sabonis all had massive games tonight and yet here I am waiting until the second segment to really talk about them that’s just how good the bench was and and I think I I think they they’d say the same hey focus on and praise the

Bench a little bit for how well they played before you start talking about us but don’t worry we’re going to talk about you and we’ll start with Keegan Murray 19 points eight of 18 from the field I love that 18 field goal attempts number I love it even if you only hit

Eight of them which eight of 18 is not a terrible uh shooting percentage but I love 18 field goals from Keegan Murray five rebounds two assists one steel one block again remember those that’s going to be a consistent theme Keegan has completely at least over these last two games has completely embraced

The scoring role with the absence of both Malik Monk and Kevin herder right I’ve T I talked about this during the live show with Jerry and Gman I talked about this on locked on Kings after the Jazz game and even going into the Jazz game right the Kings need different guys

To step up offensively and fox and sabonis are definitely in that mix but Keegan might be the guy that the king are going to ask the most out of offensively I even talked about it during uh I I posted about on social media and I talked about it during the

Live show yesterday I think like the kings are looking for a jump from Keegan Murray in offensive production and offensive importance similar to how Pia sto yakovich made his jump from his second to his third year Pia went from 11 points per game to 20 points per game

On like three or four more shot attempts uh between his second and third year now this is not a direct comparison between p and Keegan because they’re completely different types of players but what I mean by this is like a the the the role and the expectation as an offensive

Player and with the shot attempts and the shot selection as a young player right now Paia did it in between year two and year three Keegan Murray is in year two and like Jerry Reynold said yesterday Keegan Murray has been better than Paia in his first two seasons so

But but the kings are asking for for for it from Keegan right now like offensively Keegan we got to get it right now and Keegan is in attack mode from the get-go tonight and he did it on all three levels right knocking down threes and those catch and shoot threes

That he established himself as as a catch and shoot three-point specialist last season I know his three-point shooting numbers as a whole have been down this season compared to last year but he’s attacking the basket he had that nasty poster over zubats oh what a nasty poster even Malik monk got hyped

On the bench for that one and Malik normally gives him some pretty low scores on his dunks Malik got hype for that one Trey LS gave him like a six out of 10 I think in his postgame interview but no one give Keegan the love that he

Deserves on his dunks but huge dunk there by Keegan Marie he also had a hell of a dime to Damon sabonis at one point he cut Baseline drove drove two Defenders snuck a bounce pass between two Defenders right to damont sabonis who had the easy layup I think the

Clippers called timeout after that domas puts his arm around Keegan points to him and looks at the bench and goes like look at this guy what a great pass from this guy like Keegan was balling tonight absolutely balling and yet he is the guy that out of the three starters scored

The least but I just thought he was in such Attack Mode tonight that that’s exactly what you need to see out of Keegan then there’s dearon Fox 20 points six of 20 from the field so not a good shooting performance from Fox he did go up perfect I think seven of seven from

The free throw line which you love to see three rebounds seven assists he had 12 assists the other night so hey 21 assists that’s no that’s not 20 geez Matt get good at math 19 assists in the last two games combined you will absolutely take that from Fox One steel

One block I think he’s had like 20 I don’t know this off the top of my head so this is probably wrong I think he’s said like 25 or 26 straight games or something like that with a steel so we know how how pesky swipa is on the defensive side of the

Ball I will say this is going to sound negative but I’m going to turn it into a positive here dear fox has only scored 30 three times in the last 15 games the last time he scored 30 was against the the Orlando Magic on the road back on

March 23rd coming into the game or coming into this season dearen Fox was averaging 30 points a night he had a handful of 40-point performances in this first couple months of the season I still think that for the most part especially come playoff time the kings are going to need that level of

Dear and fox scoring more than a couple of times if they’re going to be successful right and I even during this road trip right the Kings have a game coming up against the New York Knicks in New York even if the Knicks are shorthanded Ed in that game we saw what

Jaylen Brunson did here in Sacramento scored 40 what 41 42 points here in Sacramento to carry the Knicks to a win the Kings are probably going to need a performance like that from dearn Fox in that Knicks game or that the the the Boston Celtics game which is on the

Second night of a back toback whatever the case may be right the kings are going to need that version of dearon Fox at some point he has not been scoring at the rate that I know he’s capable of scoring that we all know he’s capable of scoring lately that being being said I’m

Encouraged because the Kings have shown that they don’t need it every night like I thought they were going to when we first lost Malik monk again I’m not saying that the Kings can get away with dearen Fox scoring he’s averaging only like 24 points or 23 points or something

Like that over the last like month and some change so he’s not scoring at the rate that that the king’s expect necessarily from him but they don’t I really thought when Malik monk went went down and Kevin herder went down I was like that’s such a loss in scoring that okay Stars it’s

On y’all damont sabonis you need to score more too but dearn like get ready to to to score 30 to 40 points a night buddy because the kings are going to need that from you back toback games where he’s had good assist numbers the scoring’s been in the low 20s and the

Kings are victorious in both those games one of the games this Kings scored over 120 points tonight they only needed 109 so I’m encouraged by that still want to see more and we’re going to need to see more and and and at some point the kings

Are going to get more right we know dearon can can hit those shots going back to the Dallas game dear’s field goal percentage especially in the fourth quarter in the clutch time wasn’t great in that game so you’re especially going to need in close games dearon to become

That clutch Player of the Year and knock down those big shots down the stretch it’s absolutely going to happen at some point over the remainder of this season this playoff race and into the postseason but for now two games in a row where Fox can be a facilitator as

Well as a or maybe mainly a primary facilitator as well as a scorer and the Kings have had success which is encouraging to see and then there’s damont sabonis tonight 22 points eight of 17 from the field honestly just like Keegan I love those 17 field goal attempts from domas domas needs to

Attack domas needs to look to score more even if he’s missing still a few too many bunnies around the rim I’m domas took three three-pointers tonight he went 0 for three I don’t care shoot him if they’re going to give him to you freaking shoot him I’m very okay with

Domas shooting three three-pointers tonight but in addition to his 22 points 20 rebounds there’s double doubles and then there’s double doubles animal style if we’re keeping with the uh the metaphor of of uh In-N-Out Burger like that was a that’s a big boy double double 22 points 20 rebounds just missed

A triple double nine assists also had a couple of steals tonight dandas I mean just a solid game against the center in zubot that he struggled against so far this season remember how bad the Kings lost to the Clippers earlier this year where we were going oh yikes like this

Might be a nightmare m match up for Sacramento just like the New Orleans Pelicans well with the way that they’re playing right now and the way that they’ve been playing recently like they they just won two in a row against the Clippers I don’t care who’s been playing

And who hasn’t been playing the Clippers are still a tough team the Kings have beaten them twice in a row to split the season series with them they have one more game coming up against New Orleans not trying to get too far ahead of myself but if the kings are play they

Continue to play with a physicality that they’ve been playing with and and enjoy the physicality that they’ve been playing with like Davon Mitchell said earlier they’re enjoying it they’re having fun with it I think they’re going to do a much better job against New Orleans than they did early in the

Season because New Orleans brought the physicality to Sacramento and the Kings didn’t look like they knew how to handle it now the kings are the ones engaging and embracing the physicality uh so you like to see that but damont sabon is excellent tonight and it’s important I

Bring up the Pelicans it’s important I bring up the upcoming schedule because the kings are very much still in this race as crazy as it is and hey I might I’m I’m guilty of kind of thinking maybe the the the the race was pretty much over the the king’s potential of making

Into the playoffs outright was pretty much over and done with after they lost Malik Monk and lost twice in a row to the the Dallas Mavericks but turns out it’s not over yet so I’m curious how you’re feeling about this playoff race we’ll talk about that in just a second

Gloom right myself included I’m not blaming you at all even Mr Optimist Matt George over here was like oh God this is oh man this might the kings are probably going to be in a playin team and that that might still be the case right I’m not saying that the Kings because they

Beat the Utah Jazz and beat the Los Angeles Clippers that now suddenly the kings are back baby they’re they’re moving up to the fifth seed but I’m not I’m not saying nothing I’m not saying nothing I’m just I’m just pointing out facts I’m just saying

What’s in front of you if you look at the NBA standings right now the Sacramento Kings are a game back of Sixth and fifth the Dallas Mavericks are in fifth they lost to the Warriors tonight can’t believe I’m saying this but shout out Warriors thank you Warriors for that and they’re a game

Back of the New Orleans Pelicans in sixth now the Kings and Mavericks are both two and two on the season so tiebreaker is very dependent as of right now on your divisional record and I think the divisional record is only slightly better for Dallas or very very

Close so there’s a world where the Kings might still end up with a tiebreaker with Dallas which means they don’t have to pass Dallas to beat them in the standings they could still tie Dallas and technically beat them depending upon their confer their either their conference or division record I don’t

Remember how it works New Orleans different story The Kings don’t have the tiebreaker against New Orleans they’re a game back in New Orleans and they have a game against New Orleans coming up in just a little bit so Kings ain’t out of it man they’re not I’m I’m curious how

You’re feeling about this because I’m not trying to say that these two wins are enough to relight my my my flame and belief that yep the kings are absolutely going to the playoffs because I’ve been very vocal about over the course of this season I never considered this the

Scenario I never thought we were going to have to deal with the scenario where the kings were a play-in team not a playoff team that changed not just with the loss in the Mavericks but with the loss of Kevin herder and Malik monk but this this team is still fighting now we

Might be singing a very very different tune here in the near future because the Kings have a back-to-back against the New York Knicks and Brooklyn uh excuse me the Boston Celtics coming up that Boston Celtics game on the second night of a back-to-back going from New York to

Boston overnight that might be as big of a scheduled loss as there is on this freaking planet Boston is the best team in the NBA by far they beat the breaks off of Sacramento here in the golden one Center ear earlier this season I don’t have high hopes for that game the New

York Knicks beat Sacramento here earlier this year I don’t necessarily have the highest hopes for that game either especially with the Kings being without Malik monk but it’s not unwinable for Sacramento now they also play the Brooklyn Nets on this road trip they better win that game like the Brooklyn

Nets might be the softest game that they have for the remainder of this season and I say that with all respect to Brooklyn that’s how tough the the well that’s not true they play the Portland Trailblazers the last game of the year so that’s the softest game but you got

To win that game on this road trip right so we could be singing a very different tune very quickly because the Kings have a brutal schedule teams like the Dallas Mavericks do not so but as of right now my my point in bringing this up is the

Kings are still very much in it there is a road not just for the Kings to get into the playoffs outright they’re they’re still in the hunt for the five seed which felt crazy a week ago so how you feeling about it you feeling optimistic you feeling like I’m not

Getting ahead of myself I still think this is a playin team are you at all concerned with the surging Golden State Warriors right now and the clip the Lakers who are also playing really well they’re like two or three games back of Sacramento but they’re biting on your

Heels so Kings got to be careful too because if they go on a a slide here at the end of the season they could easily fall to nine or 10 so I mean this Western Conference man is just absolutely nuts but how are you feeling

Let me know hit me up on Twitter Matt George sack email me Matt George Sports gmail.com or leave your thoughts in the YouTube comment section down below we’re going to end with this end the podcast with this uh this sound bite that I have for you from Kings head coach Mike Brown

The Kings won 109-95 today the other night they won by scoring over 120 points against the Utah Jazz the Kings record I don’t remember what it is off the top of my head but in the Kings score 120 or more points this season they have like a 90% win

Percentage right this Kings team when they score a lot of points they’re very very very difficult to beat you know if you listened to lockon Kings consistently this season how much I’ve sometimes harped on the the offense and said I get what you’re doing on the defense that’s great that’s fine but

Offensively you don’t look the same right you that’s your strength and it’s not there it’s not good enough and Mike has kind of spoken the opposing of that most of the time or spoken against that this sound bite from Mike I think whether you agree with it or not it sums

Up exactly what he’s thinking and and and why he wants the Kings to play and win the way that they did T night and he values the wins of that they got tonight not just because it was against the Clippers but how the Kings won values

That a whole hell of a lot more than the times when they’ve won scoring 120 points listen to this sound by we’ll end with this the thing I like about it is this is how you win in the playoffs um you don’t win in the playoffs averaging 125 points a game and

Thinking that’s how you’re going to win that’s Fool’s goal you just look back at the teams in the past that were high-scoring teams fun to watch I enjoyed watching them during the regular season but they were out after the first round if they got lucky maybe this

Second round and you just look at the history of NBA champions I don’t think there are many NBA champions that finished outside of the top 10 on the defens defensive side of the floor in the last 25 30 years there might be a couple cuz there are

Some exceptions from time to time um but you have to have a balance bed team your offense has to be pretty good uh but your defense has to be exceptional because when you get to that second third round I mean it is a is tough and that shot a always go in

Now you go from having media coverage of maybe 15 or 10 people you got 50 75 media members watching your every move you got your family asking for you got all these expect it’s crazy and one thing you have control over is how hard and how physically you play defensively

And if you believe that you going to have a chance and for me uh our group is heading in the direction that they need to head in order to have some success come playoff time it’s no guarantee I’d rather have more control on the defense I’d rather

Have more control for us knowing that we can defend and knowing that hey we got a pretty good chance of scoring I’d rather have it that way than oh man this shot better go in because it ain’t always going to happen great stuff there from Mike Brown appreciate your support

As always here at the lockon Kings podcast if you can do me a big favor uh if you could leave a review for the lockon Kings podcast on Apple podcast or or iTunes it doesn’t take a lot of time at all hit five stars if you could also

Way for the podcast I’ll just say that so I really appreciate you sorry to ask more of it you already provide and do so much um but I I really really appreciate it shout out to all of you that I met here at the golden one center tonight

You’re awesome hey let’s get through this road trip together after every single Kings game on this road trip we’ll have a a locked on Kings podcast post game for you so keep joining me for those regardless if they win or they lose the king’s got some momentum right

Now we’re feeling good after the the stinkers against Dallas so we’re feeling good let’s see if they can keep that up we’re in the home stretch man regular season is coming to an end the playin and play offs are right around the corner the kings are very close to

Outright clinching a playin spot now that could be 10th so it’s not necessar the greatest thing but they’re they’re very close so we’re more than likely we’re having a postseason of some sort but hopefully the Kings can skirt the play in all together get us right into

The playoffs and then we can focus on how the Kings can win an opening round of a series so they can get Malik monk back for that second Playoff round we’ll see if they can pull it off no matter what happens we’ll have it all covered right here on lockon Kings appreciate

  1. The second half offensive rebounds were huge! Effort plays that are severely lacking when we play the bottom teams.

  2. If Keegan can be more aggressive and attack the rim to finish strong or pull up when he has the middie open, he will be so much more effective and successful.

  3. This is the type of bench where your star players can rest for a bit while they maintain or widen a lead in the playoffs

  4. I have been Davion's #1 fan. I was pretty pissed that the Kings were referencing him as a bust and talking about moving on from him. The Kings need to give him the space to play his game and open opportunities to be more confident in his ability to knock em down. They ignore him when he's wide open and then over dribble or turn the ball over. Use him darn it. He can play if they let him. You heard it from me first. Davion is going to have a 30pt nite and surprise everyone. Hopefully, it comes when we need to make moves in the play ins.

  5. I think that if the Kings can keep up this kind of play, we'll almost definitely make the 6th seed.

  6. There is something so fitting about rewatching The lord of the rings last weekend because there wasn’t a kings game that day and then watching Alex Len embody Gandalf. Thanks for the reference and thanks for the episode. Regardless of how the rest of the season goes, there is growth and strength. Believe in this team

  7. Why we not taking domas fox and keegan out with 6-7 mins left. Then u get a drose type injury and everyone with their hands on their head. Pls, stop chasing records (domas) we dont give af about triple doubles, double doubles, stay healthy and do ur thing.

  8. I not trying to be negative but I’ve had a feeling that Malik monk is the problem with the entire team chemistry this year .

I think he holds back Fox and everyone else
