Do the Celtics or the Thunder have a brighter future? 🤔 | NBA Countdown

It’s really no surprise these teams rank among the elite in the NBA the Celtics they rank first in offense and net efficiency and they rank third in defense while the Thunder they rank in the top five in all three as well they’re actually the only teams to rank

In the top five in all three categories this season so when we talk about this though Brian it’s not just this year right these are two of the franchises that may have the brightest Futures in the entire NBA I can see it now Malik I can see you sitting courtside a TD

Garden welcoming people to the finals between the Thunder and the Celtics in 24 maybe not but in 25 26 we’ll see the Thunder are the most upwardly mobile teams out of all the contenders this year they have the ability to add to this roster via trade and the draft more

Than anybody else the Celtics are in a little bit narrow over window but they have built this team in such a way that they will be able to contend for several more years really two years from now they might have to make some tough salary choices but they’re going to

Extend Jason Tatum this summer they’re negotiating to extend Drew holiday right now this core is going to come back next year and I think the Thunder are going to be back and they’re going to be better next year while we talking about 2025 and 2026 when it comes down to the

Oklahoma City Thunder and that half game out of being in first place in the Western Conference should we be talking about the now like the West is wide open outside of the Denver Nuggets the Phoenix Sun’s been looking funny in the light the Clippers have been looking

Funny in the light so if you’re the Oklahoma City Thunder why are you’re not going for that number one seed right now you’re half a game back and look as a guy that played in OKC during the time and had postseason runs yeah you played

For both of these franchises I did I did I did you need like the split jersey such a blessing for both of them right finals appearance championships yeah yeah all that put the team on your back that that just like he does ours here’s the thing

Right when I look at OKC and I think about that home court advantage for a young team it’s on record you could Google it you could go look it up at one point in time they had the loudest arena in the NBA when that fan base get behind

You it’s a tough environment to play in and homec court is a real thing so when you have a superstar like SGA you have a rising Allstar caliber player in Jay Wick uh Jay will you have another guy in Chad hom grd who’s who has a a ceiling

That’s you know wide open why are you not going for the number one seed I’m a little worried about Shay because this is the fourth game in the last five they are they seating is important perk this is the fourth game in the last five he’s missed with his quad injury you guys

Know quad injuries can linger they a nag in the four games he played this is a guy who scored 30 points in 50 of the 71 games he scores 30 points in every game practically his last four games he’s played with his quad he’s only averaged 19 points a game

So I think you’re right perk but I also am wondering is are they a little worried about Shay well they have the responsibility to protect Shay and we’re talking about numbers when it comes to him besides the MVP candidacy he has the potential to have history in back-to-back Seasons being the only

Thunder member averaging 30 points per game so I think right now you’re questioning like why aren’t they all playing why aren’t they going for the one seat it’s because I still think they’re a little bit ahead of schedule now they have an opportunity given the landscape of the west but they

Understood at the trade deadline they didn’t make a move to get a big they needed to do that if they really wanted to contend right now but look at the Outlook coming up because if you look at the numbers also we all say they got

Picks for days like opr you get a pick you get a pick they have options they chose not to do anything at the deadline because I think they’re trying to make the right pick instead of Rush and try to win right now that to me is the good

Looks for the Thunder well if the Thunder have a couple of years the the Boston Celtics their window is is not quite as big Brian yeah so the Celtics are a big Market obviously and they have a history of having big payrolls but they don’t have the Deep pocketed

Ownership that we see with the LA Clippers or we see with the Golden State Warriors and they have positioned their salaries to be okay under the new rules for this year and next year but starting two years from now and I know perk two years from now was a long time they are

Facing having two guys on practically $300 million contract one of them is that guy right there Jason Tatum will get one this summer and Jaylen Brown plus they’ve already extended uh Chris ABS porzingis they’ve got to extend Derek white and they got to extend through holiday those are things they

Want to do I’m not 100% sure the ownership will keep this team intact after next season especially if they don’t have a victory so I think the prime moment for the Celtics is this year and next year it’s not like they’re going to go away in two years but I

Think that they that is the core of their window no the problem is right now yeah the prise right now for them to win the championship it’s championship of us it’s no next year or after that or whatever we want to talk about it’s right now when it comes down to the

Celtics and Jason Tatum getting a job done along with Jaylen Brown Brad Stevens with grpc has done an exceptional job of making sure they have the pieces around them to get better every single season to go and complete the mission because think about this for a second I understand Drew and the

Celtics are in the go you know in talks right now far as an extension but the price on Derek white is going to be expensive right and so we don’t really know like and if you’re Derek white you’ve been looking for that big payday right you’ve been waiting on it and he’s

Earned it so he can’t take less to sacrifice when he haven’t had that big you know that big Brinks truck back up to his front door if the Cel who do you have winning the NBA Finals right now I got the Nuggets thank you so if the

Celtics actually end up losing in the NBA Finals to the Nuggets to me it’s not a complete failure it’s not a complete bust because they still have a window like Brian alluded to that is not just the now I think it’s a year or two then you really have some bigger questions oh

Oh no ma no ma no why no maam they have to get it done this year it’s no if they lose even though you’re favoring he’s talking like a Celtic he’s talking like a Celtic no no they got to get it done [Applause] N

Kendrick Perkins, Chiney Ogwumike and Brian Windhorst discuss whether the Boston Celtics or the Oklahoma City Thunder have the brighter future.

  1. Before the season started, I would have picked Celtics, but after watching them both play…can't deny OKC will be dominate in the next several years.

  2. Okc Is so young and has many more 1st rounders in the next years, props to the front office on gathering picks and getting the right guys with there picks.

  3. Perkins might be the biggest celtic hater out there for basically no reason. He's said all year he favors the bucks, so if boston wins the chip I hope he gets banned from the city.

  4. I mean when will Boston and JT win a championship maybe this year 🤔 OKC is still so young and the amount of picks they have got is insanity. So I will go OKC with the long run but Boston for now has the better chance of winning the championship but their window slowly closing

  5. OKC is obviously a very young team, and they have draft picks, but the Celtics are about to go on a championship run.

  6. OKC has so many first round picks that if there team cant do anything in 3 seasons. They can swap there current stars for more picks and build again.

  7. Celtics are MILES better Almost, than Whole league, Basically. Nobody has The Talent, We have clearly, Easy answer, It's boston.

  8. OKC has the brightest future than Boston. The Celtics have been title contenders since 2018 and they haven’t won with Tatum, Brown, and Horford. Boston should be the favorites to win the finals but they will choke in the ECF or finals. The Celtics are like the Dodgers in basketball great in the regular season but chokes in the playoffs. Denver are the favorites to win

  9. This is the template GMs need to follow. The sixers “process” years should’ve yielded this as results, but it didn’t produce anywhere close to these results. They both really did well. I think OKC is better off because of all the draft assets they have. That said, eventually they will need to pay to keep all this talent – so they need to get experience under their belts quick and do better then just the first seed and frankly make a real attempt at a championship with the next 2-3 years. Many teams that are contenders every year have beaten them despite their number 1 standing. I would say Boston has proven their dominance in the post season and has their talent signed long term despite the CBA and still has assets. So yes OKC in theory better in the long run and def championship caliber potential but Boston already has a proven track record and are so dominant with experienced players.

  10. Gimme OKC. Boston gonna end up having to choose between Tatum and Brown to rebuild around. If they don’t do it this year, they’re not getting it done together.

  11. Malika is stupid, perkins was nothing but a big body. he wasnt the reason the thunder and celtics got to the finals. and shes wrong when she says championships, he only had the 1 single championship.
I could argue that okc lost the finals largely because perkins was useless.

  12. Its win now for the Celtics. They have enough experience in the playoff, players getting expensive and I dont think ownership will pay keep the core for another 3-5 years not winning a championship. It has to be now. If they win now, their core players will be rejuvenated to play and stick together. Otherwise, they will question themselves.

  13. The thing about it, when angel mocked Caitlin, Caitlin handled it well. Caitlin had done it to others, so when it wa done to her, she took it and didn't seem to be offended at all.

  14. The thunder hope to be what the Celtics are right now. It’s the same path. Young team that got good faster than anybody anticipated, now they are in a space where a title is the goal. Championship or bust.

  15. Obviously if the Celtics will lose, Brown will be traded next season because they love Tatum …We may see a Mitchell and Tatum next Season or might be Trae and Tatum duo
