Casey Pratt on if Sacramento can keep a pro baseball team after A’s leave

ABC7’s Casey Pratt joined “The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross” Monday morning to share his thoughts on the Oakland Athletics decision to play in Sacramento for the next three seasons.

Last week, the A’s and Sacramento Kings officially announced that the Athletics will call Sutter Health Park, the home of the Sacramento River Cats, home from 2025-28 with an option for a fourth year.

  1. This has been a great radio show. Better than most Bay Area radio coverage. The best thing about this awful situation for Oakland is that Sacramento gets to show its quality. Sacramento should be warned that MLB will use and abuse them with no remorse.

  2. Casey just give up…..Oakland is done. Sacramento has a better chance of landing a MLB team than any other NorCal city…. If Sacramento fails it fails….but Sacramento has at least a chance… Oakland has no chance.

  3. If Vegas works out, A's will move there. If not, Fisher will work with Vivek to build a MLB ballpark and stay in Sac. The expansion team in the West will be granted to SLC.

  4. What is Sacramento? We went to Sacramento and the capital but never really saw a city. Just a lot of buildings but very little particularly memorable.

  5. The A's will end up staying in Sacramento with fisher selling to a Vivek led group. Vegas will end up with an expansion team due to the hurdles and turmoil.

  6. Casey needs to be looking for a new job — in Sacramento. Because ABC7 sure ain't gonna be paying him to do Oakland Ballers reporting. The A's announced the quick press conference because they feared for their safety. Anyone who sees what the crazy "sell" people post you would be also.

  7. Playing in Sacramento will grow the Athletics brand after years of being boxed-in to East Bay. It might be smart to brand ballclub to a name like West Coast Athletics or NorCal Athletics or California Athletics. ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️

  8. 1. Sac will be on the team name. I'm confident on that.
    2. If we just let Oakland negotiate and did nothing, how does that in anyway help Sac?
    3. Sac media needs to start focusing on our community, not having guests form the Bay that come on our radio waves and ask how we dare think Sac can possibly be a better location for MLB than the bay.

We have been Giants and A's fans as part of our region. If the A's had moved to Berkeley, San Jose, or SF, I'm guessing bay area media would have been more fine with it. This is our team too, we'd just like them closer.

If you can't tell, I'm all in on the Sacramento A's.

  9. I supported Sacramento when they were in danger of losing the Kings. Lots of negative comments back then about the poor quality of market that was Sacramento. Undeserved, in my opinion. But now, to see Sacramento taking part in Oakland losing its team, with the usual implications that its because the former market is terrible, well, kinda looks hypocritical.

  10. Sacramento is much stronger market if Athletics can capture NorCal region from Oakland to Ukiah. I would definitely be considering a rebrand as West Coast Athletics or California Athletics or NorCal Athletics. Also a Sacramento Athletics name would be major step back in terms of branding towards back to Kansas City A's era!!! Listen up Kings basketball. 👈👆

  11. Oakland’s brand name is dead. Not even In n Out can make it in East Oakland. The A’s saw their chance to exit and took it. This could have been avoided if the Giants allowed the A’s to move to the South Bay. Staying in Sac would be the best next thing for A’s fans.

  12. Cry me a river, this has nothing to do or related to the Kings moving. The city and the mayor, along with the fans got it done. Oakland stood there ground and unfortunately that doesn't work in these situations. Right or wrong, its a privilege to have a team and you can and will get held hostage by the owners if you dont give them what they want.. again right or wrong. If diehard A's fans dont want to drive the 80 miles, then fine… more tickets for us, but prefer them to come up and join us at the new ballpark.. i hear there great fans.

  13. Casey Pratt is just like Grant Cohn. Both the most moronic sports media guys in the Bay Area. All they do is spew their negative views on anythig that has to do with Bay Area sports. I have no idea how both of these stains have jobs.

You want an unbiased option, get Brodie on the show. Brodie is hurting but he's not going to 💩 on everything that has to do with the A's leaving for Sacramento.

  14. Sac is going to have to keep the A's with Vivek buying em from Fisher and honestly that might be happening with A's trademarking Sac and never even tried to do it with Vegas

  15. I've always thought that Ballys was just a pawn in this whole thing, just as much of a debacle as Fisher. MGM will eventually acquire that Tropicana site in bankruptcy court after Ballys goes belly up. But that will take 5 to 10 years to play out, much like the Fontainebleau mess up on the north end of The Strip. In the meantime, John Fisher does not survive in the interim. HIs A's will draw fewer fans than many minor league teams. The senators (MLB owners) will finally have enough, draw their knives, and this time it will be both Brutus (Fisher) and Caesar (Manfred) bleeding out on the floor. Figuratively speaking, of course… 😃…If Vivek really did this to try and keep the A's in NorCal, that would be a noble goal. But I think the term "useful idiot", or maybe a little more judicious term would be a "pawn". MLB is a pack of jackals. They lie, they cheat, they extort, and they don't give a damn about the fans who keep their enterprise going. So Sacramentans trying to buy into Vivek's hopium, I would say this – don't hold your breath. Even if Vegas falls through. They will slut themselves out for desperate, free money…Every. Single. Time….Great interview, guys!…

  16. Oakland is 170 M in the hole for general fund, need A's to sell the Coli part back. They should have taken just the 17 M (14 M more for two years compared to before), A's half of Coli, keep jobs, and A's would help with field. There are not G's for expansion. It's silly to even ask, or to ask A's for it who can't even give it. You take the opp and economic help. Oak's held onto resentment and bitterness, missed a good opp to get in expansion game. Sac swooped in. Viv said it before this, it's about an opportunity to show out, that's it. You try for it, in the least you get MLB for three years and economic help.
