  1. I think Wemby's skill that has gone most underrated is his sense of balance combined to how aware he is of the exact position of his gigantic goddamn body in space and on the court. He always seems to know exactly where "all of him" is relative to the ball, the basket, and other players. His movement and self-perception (proprioception if you want to get fancy) is mind-boggling at times. You can see it on a few of the plays in this video, like this dunk at 16:20 and obviously the insane no-look block at 3:00.

This kind of physical self-awareness is often what's lacking in massive physical players. The bigger guys tend to look like they're sort of bumbling around trying to keep their body in people's way without really understanding the dynamics of it. But Wemby is so fluid and versatile with his wingspan and movement. That allows him to be even deadlier as a lob option, he will not only reach impossible balls but handle them well in the air. It also gives him those unguardable layups going reverse or shoot the ball *behind the defender*, and he already starts a lot of post moves without needing eyes on the basket which makes him so much harder to defend.

No one who is that tall should have that fine command of their physical space. Like he doesn't just change the geometry of the court, he is *aware of the geometry he creates*. Also goes a long way to explain why he's so much better creating his own shot rather than catch-and-shooting, because his teammates aren't used to passing in rythm to a guy with so much limbs going on.

And what's even more scary? That projects him as an absolutely deadly passer, in case opposing defenses didn't have enough problems already.

  2. Some of these blocks are pathetic from the offense. He basically hits it with his wrist, so anybody 6'10" would also definitely block

  3. Victor Wembanyama ends his first season as the first rookie in NBA history with 1,500 points, 250 assists and 250 blocks.

Only 4 players EVER have reached those numbers at ANY point in their careers:

    Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
    Hakeem Olajuwon
    David Robinson
    Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama is the 10th player in NBA history to average 20/10/3 blocks in a season.

Kareem, Ewing, Hayes, Lanier, McAdoo, Mourning, Shaq, Hakeem, D. Robinson.

Wemby the only player to do it in less than 30 minutes per game.

He did it as a rookie.

  4. great video , nice to see you talk about good and bad points , even if i tend to agree of idea of less block/ better defense tendancy there is a thing to take in consideration with vic : the fact that a huge part of his blocks became also steal , for a classic player its logic to have less block in career but for vic it can be a different situation due to that

  5. All this, and the Spurs ended up in last place. Can you even imagine how bad they would be if he wasn't on the team?

  6. Great video man 👍
But you forgot to mention that he improved a lot during the season, for example with his defense and the fact he bite on fakes or hesitations, it was true for the 4 first months but it’s not the case anymore

  7. I started loving basketball during mj first 3peat and ive seen everyone since and nothing close to this young man maybe a young Shaq wasn’t nothing like that

  8. what got me excited is that all his weakness is all a rookie mistake. The amount of TO he has in games, his tendency to bite on fake, sometimes too eager to do everything on his own, forcing bad shots, etc. y'know the kind of mistakes that you can fix by just going into training session in the off-season. And with the amount of former Spurs players that he could asked to trained with, heck even Gobert probably grinning ear to ear if Wemby asked him to share some of his wisdom, Wemby could be very very good come next season.

Oh and if ever try to master skyhook, just close the NBA down cause at that point, ain't nobody gonna stop him lmaoo

  9. 13:30 & 29:01 I checked and in the rules pinning the ball on the backboard like this is still a goaltend.
But it's not just Wemby doing this that gets ignored. NBA officiating is crap.

  10. Once the Spurs get better at defense at the perimeter and a strong second scorer when he's on the bench then they will be unstoppable.

  11. He should condition his ankles and feet by running barefoot in sand and doing foot workouts in sand. I don't know why players aren't doing this already and trainers aren't doing so.

  12. Kid is so special. I'm a piston fan but have always loved the Spurs because of Timmy, Tony & Manu. Thank God, he went to them. This young man, god willing he stays healthy will be a massive problem for a generation.

  13. You are pointing out his defensive mistakes earlier in the season, all of them are nowhere to be seen nowadays in his game. Vic improved so much in his defense. Please pick more recent games.

  14. That’s my boy. spurs have been my #1 team since I was a little kid growing up in San Antonio was tough like anywhere else to be honest but the one thing that brought me joy was watching Tim Duncan Ginobili and Tony Parker can’t forget about Kawai and DeMar DeRozan now we have Wemby for 4 years the basketball GODS have finally answered one of my prayers now if only we can get a good PG trae Young I can see us competing on a higher lvl than ever before

  15. I was a big fan of wemby coming into the draft and thought he was gonna be great defensively, however I assumed that he would struggle with foul trouble like most young shot blockers, NOPE. If you compare his fouls per 100 to some of the other great shot blockers and defenders that have come into the NBA, he is one of the most disciplined and foul averse shot blockers we have ever seen at such a young age. Here are some of the great defenders in NBA history and their Blocks and Fouls (per100) in their rookie seasons.
    JJJ 2.7 blks 7.2 fouls
    Draymond 1.2 blks 7.6 fouls
Ben Wallace 2.9 blks 7.1 fouls
    Gobert 5.0 blks 6.9 fouls
    Embiid 4.7 blks 6.9 fouls
Tyson Chandler 3.5 blks 6.8 fouls
Marcus Camby 3.6 blks 6.0 fouls
Joakim Noah 2.2 blks 5.8 fouls
Marc Gasol 1.9 blks 5.6 fouls
    Hakeem 3.5 blks 5.5 fouls
    Mourning 4.9 blks 5.2 fouls
Antony Davis 3.3 blks 4.6 fouls
    Robinson 5.2 blks 4.2 fouls
    Dwight 2.6 blks 4.4 fouls

    Garnett 2.9 blks 4.2 fouls

Wemby is at 5.7 blks and 3.4 fouls per 100. He blocks more shots then anyone here and does it on less fouls then anyone here. Of all the people I looked at for this the only person I saw with less fouls per 100 was Evan Mobley with 3.1 in his rookie year, but he's actually regressed in that area, he was at 4 per 100 last year and 4.4 this year.

  16. Hassan whiteside kept snatch block compilations used to be so Amazing, wemby does it every game. Whiteside wasn’t just any blocker either

  17. Easily the best defender in the nba not even close…people called me crazy for saying he’d be the DPOY in his rookie season

  18. He's improving, these fakes shots don't have the same impact on Wemby as season go along. He's more cool and patience, and post-all star game he has like 15 games with more than 5 blocks. There's so much he can learn, I don't think my generation has seen something like him. Other than Kareem and Wilt, there's no other player with the same unique impact and promising future.

  19. His defense sets him apart of any other all-NBA in the league. Other than Wilt, there's no other two way player like him.

  20. He is breaking basketball so much that the Spurs will be worse this year with him than without him 😂😂😂 Real game changer.
