BYU Basketball Hits The Jackpot In Landing NBA Coaching Star Kevin Young | BYU Cougars Podcast
The BYU Cougars got their man to replace Kentucky Wildcats coach Mark Pope Tuesday when they announced the hire of Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young, who will remain in his current position through the duration of the NBA Playoffs with Phoenix but the wait for him to arrive at Brigham Young University (BYU) will be well worth the wait Jake Hatch says as Tom Holmoe, Shane Reese and all others involved nailed the hire for the BYU men’s basketball program.
Jake then explained where things stand for Kevin Young as he navigates is dual roles in the interim as he plans to assemble his BYU basketball assistant coaching staff with the goal of them leading the charge in recruiting and Jake believes that could yield a holdover from the Pope regime in Nick Robinson staying on at BYU as he has the intel and institutional knowledge to handle things in the short term while other assistant coach options like Chris Burgess, Barret Peery or Quincy Lewis play out.
Finally, the show wrapped up with a look at the Collin Chandler situation and how it will affect the BYU hoops roster with his release from his NLI to play at the Universirty of Kentucky and why Jake thinks it’ll work out for all parties as BYU turns their attention to what appears to be a bright future under the leadership of Kevin Young in Provo.

Do I see a welcome home rally at the Marriot Center where Coach Young comes off the bus with a NBA 2024 Championship Trophy?
Kalani needs to win something at the P4 level before he gets a raise.
Hiring an NBA coach will be interesting. He's poised for a deep run with Durant & Booker. He cant bring in his previous school's roster, You may have to write off year one
Well, this coach better produce with better players (BYU type players) also or this thing will be a big failure.
Will BYU finally hire a full squad of assistent coaches (5 total coaches?) . That allows for Quincy Lewis or other local recruiters to be hired.
The last time a major sport at BYU hired a high profile professional assistant coach in that sport it ended in the near-death of sports at BYU….
Before Kalani gets in line with his hand out ($$), maybe he should win more than 5 games in a season.
If Kalani gets to 8+ wins this year then he's in line for a big raise but if they go 5-7 or 6-6, no chance.
Kalani Sitake does not deserve a raise. He is paid just fine.
Last time the AD wanted to give Kalani a raise, didn’t Sitaki say “No, give my assistant coaches a raise” so he wouldn’t lose his Offensive and Defensive Coordinators? Sitaki is paid fine.
BYU just sent a big message to the Big 12. Willing to invest in their sports programs is huge.
No raises for Sitake until he has a winning season.
