Luka Doncic now holds the NBA record for most PPG without Free Throws in a season (since the merger)

Luka – 27 ppg (2023-24)

Michael Jordan – 26.9 ppg (1986-87)

Kobe Bryant – 26.7 ppg (2005-06)

George Gervin – 26.7 ppg (1979-80)

Where does this season from Luka rank in the top non-MVP seasons from a player all-time?

add this to the long list of reasons that the harden comparison does not work

Greatest bag of alltime. I think he’ll surpass Kobe as the greatest tough shot maker in NBA history when he retires. And possibly have the highest scoring average in NBA history.

Genuine question: where does his FGA rank?

  4. lolvalue

Now that’s a stat I can get behind, impressive.

Oh good, this will be a fun trivia fact to bring up a few years from now that no one will find fun.

The way he’s able to score without being considered “explosive” is something that should allow him to stay at this peak for a while.

  7. Medium_Active1729

dont let this distract you from the fact that Steph Curry’s wife sleeps with other men

  8. Turbo_S54

MJ and Kobe were really walking buckets. Luka too

For players averaging over 30 PPG this season I found this.

Example: Taking away their average free throws made from avg PPG, for Luka 33.9-6.8 = 27.1

    Embiid: 24.5
    Giannis: 23.4
    SGA: 22.5

    For those who are curious,

Wilt’s best was 40PPG without free throws.

This is a great stat. Further solidifies Luka as MVP in my mind.

R/nba in complete shambles right now trying to figure out a narrative to fight this.

  13. NoWayNotThisAgain

So… better than Jordan and Kobe?

  14. Makes sense. Led the league in FGA and second in 3PA and hitting them at a good rate.

Removing free throws greatly hurts the scoring efficiency of non 3-point shooters.

    Curry’s 2020-21 season was underrated.

Is “since the merger” a fancy way of saying “excluding Wilt”?

  17. Kobe’s 35ppg season was insane considering how clogged the driving lanes were without any spacing, as well as the pace

  18. SailingRelic65

Iceman doesn’t get talked about enough

  19. And yet he still shoots 9+ fta per game. The Luka Stan’s are going in so hard for this dude they’re making me start to not like him.

Stop being babies about the fact luka might not get MVP this season. Jfc.

  20. BradyReas

Since the merger aka “if you don’t count wilt”

  21. SkinnyFVLatte

Luka is how I imagined Larry Bird played lol

  22. UnderwaterDialect

My PPG doesn’t even go down at all without free throws.

what’s up with the “since the merger” stats? That was not a thing prior to … this season? The NBA existed before 1976
