Interesting Doc playoff anecdote from JJ Redick

If you don’t want to watch the clip, JJ is talking about teams gameplanning for specific players that aren’t the first/second option. The Jazz locked him up in game 1 in 2017, and Doc told him to stand in the corner for the rest of the series so they can basically play 4v4.

Savvy playoff coaching, or stupid? Either way should be interesting to see how Doc approaches playoff matchups and personnel with us.

JJ had a bad series and they lost in 7. He even played 41 minutes in game 4 despite scoring in single digits the previous 3 games, so he was either the best decoy ever or Doc was desperate for him to hit a few shots at some point in the game. Funny enough, he would score 26 in game 5, but then only play 20 minutes with 4 shot attempts the following game..

This should be taken with a grain of salt because I’d have to go back to watch the series to have a strong opinion on any of it, but it seems like his playing time was wildly inconsistent and he was getting less playing time when he played well lol
