Of the big four sports, basketball is the one most often won by the best team. Football has a one game elimination format. Baseball gets weird with its schedule and pitchers affect the post season more than the regular season. Hockey almost never sees the best team win. It’s often the hottest goalie.
In basketball, the inferior team has very little chance to win a grinding seven game series without some sort of an injury to the favorite. The better team gets better as the series goes longer. A single great player affects basketball more than he does in other sports.
I say all this to hopefully reassure some of you. Denver has the best team in basketball, the best player in the world, and these numbers show it. We’re winning it all again this year. Let’s enjoy it.
