“I don’t know what else to do. I’m over it. I’m just going to do what I got to do to help the team win and try to play for a championship. Accolades and individual awards, I’m done with those.”

“We’ll make a proper adjustment going into Game 2,” Davis said. “And if that means I’m on [Jokic] for the whole game, then so be it.”
“I think it puts a bigger emphasis on defensive players,” Davis told ESPN of the postseason. “If you’re able to guard in this new era of basketball where it’s all offense … If you’re able to stand out defensively, I think it’s more credit to you, because it is an offensive era. And there’s not a lot of guys who are defending.”
“I don’t know the standard to win that award,” Davis said, “but my focus is doing the standard for my team defensively and helping us win a championship.”

AD is the best defender in the league. DPOY is a joke award, they gave it to JJJ last year and during the Lakers-Memphis series last year, anybody with a working pair of eyes could see who the better defender was by a mile.

The criteria is broken.
They rate bigs and guards for their positions but don’t take into the fact that someone like AD excels at guarding both bigs and guards for overall impact.
He does slightly worse than Gobert for guarding bigs whereas Gobert can’t guard guards at all. He does slightly worse than a pure perimeter guarder but those players can’t guard the paint.
And then they’ll take overall defensive rating where Gobert has players like McDaniels and Edward’s on defense but will ignore that for Wemby. Makes absolutely no sense.
Then you’ll see players like Gobert and Jaren Jackson get abused by quick guards in the playoffs because they lack versatility on defense.
Rudy Gobert’s presence in Minnesota has turned the Timberwolves into a serious contender with the best defense in the NBA. I don’t think anyone could vote for AD over Gobert in good conscience after the way this season has shaken out.
