Peterson did say he was casting a wide net 🤷‍♂️

I’m sure he could relate with the players but he hasn’t been an assistant at any level I believe and while I’m sure he knows the game it’s not the same as coaching. Would love to bring him on staff as an assistant/shooting coach though

We really out here interviewing everyone lol, love JJ but I’m pretty sure he only coaches his kids team IIRC from a podcast, obviously understands the game at a high level but I wonder if he has the chops for it.

Kinda get the feeling they don’t know who they want to coach the team and they’re looking for someone to wow them in the interview stage and that scares me abit.

I don’t want them to overthink it or try to make a unexpected hire just for the sake of being different, but I do appreciate them being thorough in the search

  6. Obviously biased bc I’m a Duke grad but I’ve really enjoyed hearing JJ’s thoughts on the game in recent years. Not sure if it’ll translate to coaching, but it’s certainly interesting they’re talking to him

Yeah that’s a no from me. No coaching experience at all. What this team needs is someone who can set them straight on the court and off. The team is really young and getting a super young HC isn’t a great mix

I mean I love JJ’s thoughts on the game and he gets instant respect from players. Love the idea of interviewing him.

Look I don’t know if this goes anywhere, but if it does…at least he went [on-record](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg3AksPhjAI) fairly early in the year to gush about Brandon Miller. Might’ve been the first mainstream guy to draw attention to Milly’s play.

So, at least he has that going for him.

I’m guessing main candidates like David Adelman and Charles Lee are more focused on their current teams succeeding in the playoffs rather than the hornets job, and the front office is just gaining a wide net of options in case the search doesn’t go as planned.

My guess is that we’ll have an answer as whether David and Charles are interested once their team’s run ends.

Tar Heel fans will come from miles to throw trash and blunt objects of him. The building will finally not be filled by Knicks and Heat fans.

  12. TheRealEvanHale

Wouldn’t mind seeing him on the staff but don’t want his first coaching job being our head coach I love JJ and the things he does for the game in the media landscape

  13. So I guess we didn’t hush hush hire Charles Lee already huh

I’m okay with the team taking risks, because there ain’t nowhere to go but up.

And I’ve been impressed by JJ’s knowledge of the game on his podcast and in his broadcasting work. Whether that translates to teaching the game I don’t know.

I’m obviously in the minority here….. but I think it’s a good interview. If you hit on a coach of his age, you’re set for a long time. He obviously knows the modern game and listening to him talk for 5 minutes, it’s apparent that he’s a basketball savant.

listening to his podcast with lebron, i was amazed at the level of IQ he has and i was like “he’d be a great coach” but i also said that about steve nash. Idk if it’ll translate well and i don’t wanna be the team to risk it

I truly truly believe that JJ has more talent as a coach then plenty of HCs in the league rn. But he has to be an assistant for a while first, he can’t just jump into the hot seat. If we hire him I’ll be excited cuz Jeff thought he was the best and I’ll believe it. But he should try at least be associate HC first

I actually like this. I wanted to name drop JJ Reddick in the past when it comes to coaching candidates (because he’s such a basketball head) but I never knew if his heart was into coaching until now so it’s good to know he has interest in it. He’ll definitely be that stern and modernized coach the Hornets need.

Curious to know if he does get the job, would he still be running his Podcast?

  19. durmduke

I think JJ would be an incredible coach. But he needs some coaching reps first

This has been my team since the inaugural season in ’88. I will drop them like a bad habit if they hire this nimrod.
