Let’s overreact to the first games of the NBA playoffs. The OKC Thunder vs. New Orleans Pelicans matchup has been one of the most exciting series of the postseason so far. The number one seeded Thunder just beat the Pelicans in game 1, putting this young OKC core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Williams, Josh Giddey, and Chet Holmgren one step closer to the next round of the playoffs. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showed why he is an MVP contender by hitting clutch buckets towards the end of the game. For the Pelicans, Zion Williamson was once again sidelined and their other stars Brandon Ingram and Cj McCollum failed to assert themselves against the Thunder. But this is a long playoff series and both teams still have a chance to move on to the next round to face either the Dallas Mavericks or the LA Clippers, before facing potentially the defending champion Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
The OKC Thunder are back in the playoffs after a quick rebuild. Sam Presti has assembled a young core composed of Shai, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, Cason Wallace and a treasure chest of picks spanning the next NBA drafts. But can they overcome their size disadvantage against this New Orleans Pelicans team that might have an extra boost of strength once Zion Williamson comes back? The NBA playoffs are exciting as it is with the Lakers at Nuggets, Suns at Timberwolves, Magic at Cavs, 76ers at Knicks, Mavs at Clippers, and Heat at Celtics matchup. But this Thunder vs. Pelicans series is starting to look like one of the most exciting series in the 2024 Nba playoffs.

It happens. The Pels are a quick team and OKC were playing their first real game in which they were favored. I think Mark will make offensive adjustments and more screening.
