How Damian Lillard DOMINATED Bucks-Pacers first half + Thunder-Pelicans film study | Hoops Tonight

Jason Timpf breaks down the film from Damian Lillard’s 35-point first half in the Milwaukee Bucks’ victory over the Indiana Pacers, and explains how the Pacers did a POOR job of defending Dame. Jason then dives into the tape of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans, and explains how the Pelicans had an encouraging defensive strategy on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander despite OKC coming out with the win. Last, Jason breaks down Mitchell Robinson’s defensive effort vs. Joel Embiid in the second half of the Knicks’ win over the 76ers.

  1. The fascinating thing about this past weekend is that every team that lost (all the lower seeds) shot less efficiently than the higher seed they faced.

Also, even though the Pacers got so many wide open shots to lesser shooters. TJ McConnell shot two, Ben Sheppard shot a few, Obi Topin. Theyre gonna live with those inexperienced guys getting shots.

  2. It is utterly disgusting how much better Dame plays when Giannis isn’t playing. That tells me Dame is WAY TOO ball dominant and has no pure PG skill in him. He could easily average 10 assists per game feeding Giannis. AAU corrupting the PG position these days and Portland got Dame thinking he don’t gotta share the ball like a PG is supposed to smh

  3. @michaelbarnes2126 I definitely agree Dame is very ball dominant, but I think things would be better if Gianni’s would set better screens and actually roll and find a post game. He hovers around the three point line so much when dame looks for the three first. Both players need to do more give and take to make it work. The reason why joker & Murray works so well is because joker has a post game, can screen and actually roll and it opens up the floor for Murray to pass or take the shot.

  4. calling the screen to get AJ Green switched onto you over Dame shows a lack of actual preparation. AJ Green is an above average defender and Dame below average. Pacers just didn't understand this because the guy is an undrafted rookie. If they would have actually looked into the film and seen how much Doc has been playing Green they would have understood this.

  5. Both Dame and Giannis basically play the same role, so it's difficult for them to play together when both of them want to run the offense and fill that stat sheet. Of course i've seen flashes of this duo working exactly as it should, so the potential is still there… A solution could be to just run Giannis and Middleton and then use Dame as a scoring punch from the bench together with Portis and mix in some of the young guys (Green, Ajax) inside the rotation, which will give them that defensive edge, athleticism and hustle.
Also, as much i respect the Pacers, this series looks like it's going to be a sweep… Everything slows down during the playoffs and suddenly experience and guts start to matter much more than in regular season games.

  6. The Pacers defense was atrocious, not even just against Dame. Guys were getting to the rim at will. Made mistakes also for the Pacers and some of the guys shooting those three like Tobbin and McConnell I guarantee the Bucks were fine with that. Dame was excellent but Middleton had an efficient double-double, Lopen blocked 3 shots, Pat Bev was solid and Portis was good in the starting line-up and will be great when he goes back to the bench. Also last, and certainly not least, Giannis will be back for this series. Pacers inexperience was very apparent verses a battle hardened winning team with Finals experience.

  7. Bucks took away Hilburton, and conceded shots Turner and Pascal siakum. Pascal had the best performance of his playoff career and they lost by 20. This series is over in 5.

  8. Dude i love your content but sometimes you are way off, pacers played like that in regular season but this is the playoffs you gotta count for that Yes pacers are a fast team but in the playoffs the games slows down

  9. Pacers have literally the worst defense in tje whole playoffs and you cant see that this is bothering, you played ball you should know that

  10. I can't wait for your lakers video 😂😂😂😂 i know you're HEATED 🙏🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿

  11. Dame has made a living making tough shots. So if your plan is to make him take those. You will continue to get cooked.

  12. Only the people who run the NBA care about the regular season. If players weren't forced to play a certain amount of games to be eligible for awards and stuff nobody would give a flying F about the pre-season.
