The Zach Lavine experiment shows the difference between athleticism, talent, and skill. Prior to the injuries, his elite athleticism covered his lack of skill so his scoring talent could be dominant. But after he slowed a bit and lost his vertical, he failed to develop his skills (ball handling, defense, passing etc) and exposed his lack of talent in court awareness, leadership, etc. Bottom line: you cant build a competitive team around him. And worse, his game might drag down a good team even as a 3rd option leader because his game hurts everyone else on the floor. As hard as it is to accept. he's a 6th man off the bench playing 20 minutes a game.
that said, by all accounts Zach is a great guy, and great teammate. I wish the best for the poor guy. But his nickname should be mirage. first glance you could swear there is something great there. but as you try to get closer, it just keeps eluding you.
