Our PnR defense is broken

This film breakdown pretty clearly illustrates the flaws in our defensive scheme/execution that led to countless wide open threes for Miami. Our drop coverage was atrocious and (Jrue was the main culprit of this) we need to be better about staying home on shooters.

If you’ve never seen this guy’s work before, just know he’s like this for every team; his titles and tone are hilariously over the top but the film breakdown is always on point

Porzingis is unplayable if his drop is going to be that deep against the heat

Not to mention, Bam cooks him every time

  2. AcrobaticFeedback

Their only way to beat us is shot variance. Switching everything will cut away their 3pt offense like it did to us today. We will beat them by talent if we challenge them in this way. I don’t care if White gets switched onto Bam, have him back up 40 turnaround post shots per game, dude was a below average post scorer in the regular season, he would have to shoot at least 60% to be efficient.

I remember him analyzing Game 2 between the Lakers and Nuggets the other day and everything he said was on point. Yesterday was probably Mazzulla’s biggest failure and him practically not taking accountability by saying a lot of the Heat’s threes that game were mostly contested (they weren’t) is damning when it’s obvious looking back at the game that our defense was sloppy. I expect him along with the team to watch film from Game 2 and figure out a better defensive strategy because if we avoided a lot of the obvious mistakes that we made, Game 2 would of been in our hands

    Wait he’s doing facecam now?

Apparently he nitpicks like a motherfucker to get views, not to say the team didn’t deserve to get shit on but I guess take this with a grain of salt

Hedge the screen or just switch it. But Porzingis playing drop and standing in the paint while Herro comes off ball screens at the three point line walking into open pull-ups is going to get us destroyed repeatedly. How Mazz didn’t adjust to this last night at some point was truly perplexing. And for the love of God, STOP OVERHELPING AND STAY ATTACHED TO THEIR SHOOTERS ESPECIALLY THAT PRICK CALEB MARTIN. I’m going to lose it if I see Jrue roaming in the middle of nowhere again and giving up an open shot

  6. Greennhornn

I would feel much better about a loss if Herro went for 40 hitting step back threes over Porzingis rather then give every player on their team wide open threes.

I couldn’t believe that we weren’t playing tighter on anyone. Let them drive, take away the 3. they couldn’t fucking miss a 3 so lets try to shut that down.

it was so painful to watch and i don’t know all the terms like this guy does. But I also yelled last night a few times.

  8. bodhibell02

hahahaha this is amazing. and smart as fuck. It really is kinda crazy watching all these highlights back…like, our defense was *so fucking bad*.

  9. jambr380

Dude knows what he’s talking about, but yikes. We knew KP was a disaster, but it’s concerning to see our supposed best defender in Jrue make so many wrong decisions out there. Kinda makes you miss Smart and TL

Might be time to hire a defensive specialist assistant coach

  11. Fun_Programmer1504

I agree but sad to say, Miami likely have counter adjustments for anything Celtics do. They just better coached/game plan/execution/ probably team

Please do not watch this guys videos. He is a screaching bozo

Tough to listen to this guy (because of his delivery, the breakdown itself is solid) and obviously our defense was awful last night with the amount of open shots we gave up, but most of the discourse I’ve heard has been about defense when the offense scored an abysmal 101 points. Yes I know things slow down in the playoffs and scores are lower but that’s like 20 points off our post all star break average and lower than the worst offense (CHA – 102.6 ppg) during that stretch. The offense actually deserves more blame in my opinion

Also as an aside, half of these plays look like the guys were playing lazy just as much as they’re bad coaching. Weak close outs, not picking up a streaker in transition, letting guys get lost behind you in motion… this is defense 101 stuff that high school kids know

  14. guitarpatch

It’s obviously by strategy. They will concede those types of 3’s. I don’t think they want to get into rotating the defense and playing that type of game. They want to open things up and have more possessions

It took a historic shooting night from them and it was still a close game

  15. Timoteo-Tito64

This guy is the epitome of confidence outweighing actual knowledge. If you say everything like you know what you’re talking about and make it sound like it’s obvious, then people will believe you

This guy shits on every single coach. Even spo. He legitimately believes spo is a bad coach. And the stupid anger bullshit is so overdone

  16. Hard to listen to him but the man is spitting facts

  17. at_least_u_tried

This guy is going to need to be institutionalized after having to breakdown both Mazzulla and Ham playoff basketball.

  18. aja_ramirez

These videos are meaningless. Every team scores over 100 a game so guys are gonna get open shots every game. Big whoop.

  19. SecondsLater13

I love this guys videos but his intention is 75% viewer retention and only 25% information. I saw him do maybe 10 positive videos during the season, and 6 were videos praising the Celtics nd Mazzula specifically. Bad game for sure but I wouldn’t read to much into his critics since they are shifted for entertainment purposes.

  20. aeronacht

His film breakdown is actually very far from on point lol, he very consistently doesn’t actually point out sets and rotations and just yells if anything happens. If people drop on the screen and they hit a 3 he’ll say the fucked up and shoulda switched. Same play they switch and a player takes advantage of the mismatch he’ll shout about how they should drop and fight over to stick with it. Results based, not basketball based. I didn’t watch this one but I’ve seen a few of his videos and pretty quickly realized his schtick is yelling but his breakdowns are shallow.

This guy is so annoying. I actually unsubscribed from his YouTube channel, every coach sucks every coach makes mistakes that are irreparable, and every coach deserves to be fired after every game. He’s just literally screaming and it’s just obnoxiously stupid.

  22. Kooky_Fondant_479

I just hope Joe goes away from the drop coverage permanently. I really wish we would just hedge/ice the screens or even switch
