Building Around Cade Cunningham Is Most Important Objective For Detroit Pistons This Offseason

Today we’re discussing two different articles dropped in the Detroit Pistons Community; one from James Edwards III of The Athletic and another from Sean Corp of DetroitBadBoys (https://www.detroitbadboys.com/2024/4/25/24139385/detroit-pistons-offseason-trades-free-agency-jaden-ivey-jalen-duren-mikal-bridges), and I explain why building around Cade Cunningham, no matter the cost, should be the Pistons priority.

  1. Your issue Ku is you are focused solely on Cade's development. You're doing exactly what that article layed out at the beginning. If we are being fair and objective. Cade has had 3 years to develop. I reject the notion Detroit doesn't have time. Cade hasn't even signed his rookie extension yet knore has he proven he can be a top dog. Yes he improved but did it lead to wins? Nope. At this point all we know about Cade is that he can put up good numbers on a bad team. You keep saying you agree the environment and the FO and coach failed the team but still trade Duren and Ivey away because they didn't develop under horrid conditions. That foolish short term thinking in my opinion. Let the new executive coming to this team have a chance to evaluate team and see what he has. Also you assumed that Cade was going to get better last year and was fighting people when many wanted him traded. See how that works.

  2. This team might be broken ngl
We are Detroit not a free agency destination
We have assets that aren’t worth much by other front offices
Our best player has injury concerns and our 2nd year players who we need to be good because our lack of draft capital have been disappointing to say the least
This team might need to be historically bad for a few years to recreate the franchise in a new image. I’m all for trading but if that package doesn’t even get Mikal… we might just have to stick with Ivey and Duren
I have been a fan for 25 years… if other teams don’t value our assets already it’s worst case scenario and we may be tanking for another 2 years
Let the Buddy Boheim era begin 😂.

  3. I said it when they drafted Ivey, that him and Cade don't fit at all!! Weaver, has been drafting player's that CAN'T shoot, he doesn't know what he's doing

  4. But if you agree that Ivey and durens value isn't high right now… How can we assume that we'll be able to trade them for an impact player that will help maximize Cade? Isn't that as well an assumption? I'm definitely open to exploring trades for both of them but I don't want to trade them just for the sake of trading them neither

  5. My view is somewhere in the middle. Are you trading these guys for a quick fix to get the 40 games but that’s the ceiling? Then you don’t move those guys.

  6. I'm cool with trading them if we get something. But I don't think their value plus a potential #1 in a weak draft is getting you an actual star this year.

Brooklyn didn't even wanna trade Jalen Green and multiple picks for Mikal, I don't even think Mikal is good enough to warrant that return based off how his season started to go in Brooklyn.

Rather we did what houston did and get some actual good ass vets (which I thought is what we were gonna do this previous season) by signing them

  7. Rough day, hope everything is okay. I am with you on valuation of assets but sometimes can be the other way too of fans undervaluing and in this Nets case and people should take advantage of the current $1 month deal for James' work but he did say it's not just the deal, but the strategy the Nets have is not to trade Bridges "In terms of that Nets deal, for instance, I actually don’t think the Nets would do that right now. Much as I disagree with their strategy, I think their goal is to pair Bridges with another star and see where that leads, not necessarily to rebuild"

I agree with having an outside perspective but Sam is a national guy and it's nothing against him but it's just too big of a bandwidth so maybe mix in outside national with a little more local, the Locked On Nets guys are great, maybe you can have Adam on, because that trade James proposed, even with the draft selection, that's a lot of defense going out the door, and can you imagine an Ivey and Thomas backcourt? That's sieve, they will trade Schroder at some point.

I do like the selling of mystique, they can sell Ivey and Duren with 1 year before extension talks, 2 before free agency to see if that team can change them, so if it's a good deal trade'em and Sean's AD point is interesting because the Pels don't exactly spend as a tax team and Gores gets flak for hiring and other decisions, but he does spend. And even if Cade wants out, this PoBo better be good because they got BI, Zion and turned J Hart to CJ, not bad

  8. Its hard to imagine any trades that move the needle. Miles Bridges would be a plus but he come with the baggage.
The other Bridges is a 3 and we need a 4.
T wolves will be looking to unloading KAT if the dont go really deep. But I imagine that would cost Ivy plus this years pick which kills it for me.

  9. It’s Ok Ivey didn’t work out trade him and Sasser for a 3-D guard sign Tobias , Brandon Ingram, Patrick Beverley hopefully Drummond too
