An NBA Era is over Should the Utah Jazz have pushed it? Danny Ainge, Dennis Lindsay Draft history

LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry are out of the playoffs for the before the 2nd round for the first time since 2005, 18 years ago. It is change of the era in the NBA with Anthony Edwards, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic and Shai leading the way. Should the Utah Jazz have pushed with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert to see if they could have taken advantage of the changing of the guard?

David Locke, radio voice of the Utah Jazz and Jazz NBA Insider looks at the reality on where the Jazz stood 22 months ago and wonders if they could have really broken through.

Last Friday on Locked On Jazz Locke revealed his draft chart. Today we look at the history of Danny Ainge, Dennis Lindsay and Sam Presti and how they have drafted in their careers.

  1. I get the what if but the Jazz needed a reset. Quinn refused to make adjustments in the playoffs, Diva Don was a cancer, and the front office surrounded Gobert with 4 starters who were all undersized for their positions. Almost everyone blamed Gobert for the crap defense in the playoffs but the truth was the rest of the team was very weak at defense and put him in an impossible situation.

Minus signing/trading for a superstar I hope the Jazz go full tank for this coming season and possibly 2026. This is how the Jazz will get their Luka, Ant, Tatum.

  2. So, I know you're a numbers guy and you like numbers. But what you are doing with your draft ratings is taking players and giving them a subjective, qualitative rating. But because that rating is a number, you are treating it as a quantitative rating and doing all kinds of math with it. This lets you say things like "overperformed in the draft by 45%," but it doesn't make it true. The math is wholly dependent on your qualitative ratings of player performance. It's only marginally more reliable than simply looking at a list of their drafted players and making a qualitative judgement on that. "Garbage in, garbage out" as they say.

  3. Imagine if we drafted CJ McCullom instead of Trey Burk. Hopefully we get in a he top 4 this year to make it easy to succeed. There are about 20 players I could be happy with but 29 and 32 are hard to find a valuable player.

  4. Lindsey made so many mistakes in Utah. Not as worse as KOC. He was fired for a reason.
