The Booker Suns team that went to finals wasn't a better team than this years Suns team, but the difference is they reached their ceiling, and Monty Williams kept that team playing consistently at their celing. It took time to find and build that teams foundation and identity. This years Suns team has a lot higher celing than that team, if we could just get all the players playing to their full potential consistently with the guidance of the right coach they can beat Minisota and contend for a championship. I watched every Suns game this year and I never saw one complete game with all players playing at their celing. Minisota and Denver know their identities right now and are playing consistently at their celing. Let's get a better coach that will fix issues that will lead these Suns players to find their identity and rolls on this team that will allow each player to grow and play as a team in there defined rolls to reach their peak/celing consistently as a team. The Suns looked out of sync all year.
For decades the KD trade will be the example of an all in move that failed. James Jones is done as a gm. Suns should asap hire new one. He will not have immidiate impact unless he manages to trade Beal and KD which may be impossible but he should start preparing team for rebuild. The sooner the better.

Maybe they are good enough but Vogel is not the coach to unlock their full potential. If I’m the GM, im definitely replacing Vogel and I’m open to trying to trade KD or Beal as impossible or difficult as it may be. Book was his best when he had a true PG next to him and Beal ain’t that. Also we should not be starting three guards like Vogel did all season meaning Grayson or Beal will need to come off the bench. My concern even before the season started was that the roster was to guard heavy

The Big 3 can definitely work, but those two other starters have to be big, physical, athletic defenders. One should be able to shoot 3s, and the other should be a true defensive anchor and lob threat. Forget about your feelings toward Ayton or if Ayton asked to be traded or if he quit or something; talk about fit only, Ayton was probably the probably best fit to complement the Big 3. There are better centers out there, but either they have no defense, no offense, can't shoot FT or they're injury-prone. Ayton provides everything despite not being great at anything besides finishing lobs, which is something Nurkic provides zero of. So sad that we didn't just do the simple thing of babying Ayton to keep his emotions in check, he is what he is, with Ayton now Suns would be in a much better place as we really only need to find a young PJ Tucker/Jae Crowder, instead now we need to find a Jae Crowder and Capela, and fill out the bench…
Vogel is the problem
Great show! Booker said it best, that you can't just put together great talent and expect successful outcomes. Attention to the details matter. A wild season of ups and really low lows has highlighted a host of issues. Maybe there is a serious coaching issue (I think coaching issues are too much an inside baseball thing for fans to reliably call — reports like those from the Athletic don't convince me), but there is definitely a ball handling issue (results: turnovers and getting into offensive sets too late); there is a size and athleticism issue (results: poor rebounding and POA defense). People act like teams or players can't improve. Its just not true. Every good team today has had years to improve to get to where they are. Go Suns!
If by "contend" you mean posting a good record in the regular season and getting swept in Round 1 of the playoffs then, yes, they're good enough to contend. If you're talking about matching up with actual championship contenders…no chance Captain. Need two-way players and GRIT.
