  1. Nets fire Jacque Vaughn during the ASB, get a head start on coaching search and take Fernandez right from under us. Other top candidates go somewhere else, we’re left with Lee and dark-horse JJ, and the Lakers swoop in and interview them too. This is why we should have let go of Steve earlier.

Let’s be real, it was always a pipe dream to think we’d be able to hire our top choice before playoff teams started getting knocked out, creating new (more desirable) openings.

Is what it is until something finally starts shifting perception

I’m not usually one to be doom and gloom or panic about this sort of thing. Even after the Kenny Atkinson thing, I don’t believe coaches wouldn’t want our job.

However, the money, spotlight and ability to make moves for stars that the Lakers has does make them a tantalizing job prospect (even with the pressure of it blowing up, you would back yourself).

If we haven’t hired 1 of our 2 guys by end of the weekend I’ll be worried.

I’d rather go to our trash team than the circus that is the lakers. You better be 33-8 or better by the halfway point or LeGM and the rest of the media calls you the worst human to ever exist. You might waste away in obscurity here but it’s better than having your entire bloodline get insulted 24/7

    Charlotte job 100% more attractive.

You can build something there. You could be part of the rise. You can actually help shape the culture and the roster and the team identity.

Anybody who jumps into that Laker job is getting some screen time until they tear it down or LeBron decides he wants somebody else. You’ll make zero decisions there and then not have a job.

I mean now that the Lakers are in play both of them are going to shift their focus there. We’ll probably get whichever one the Lakers don’t hire.

I know its LA and its the Lakers but I’m not sure why a coach would want a constantly churning roster with not really that realistic of a shot at a title (even though that’s their expectation)

Feels like a setup for failure for a first time coach

Guess we getting leftovers from the coaching candidate pool again?

I wonder if it’s about us moving slow, or our candidates waiting for more job openings.

I feel like if we had a guy we would be offering him the position immediately.

We’re just not that desirable atm.

Even if the Hornet said “we’ll hire you right now our #1 choice, here’s a six year contract, sign here” … who’s to say they wouldn’t feel out other coaching offers?

Have you all ever interviewed for a job? People all the time will go on five or six interviews to see where they want to be. It’s what’s called an interview process. There’s no such thing as first dibs when it comes to coaches.

The front office needs to make a decision and soon

I mean if Lebron stays I think JJ is more likely than Lee. If Lebron isn’t staying I’m not sure Lakers are a more attractive team (unless Lee just rlly likes the city)

I never thought I would say this, as a JJ nay-sayer, but I don’t want to lose him if he’s suddenly in demand. Hornets need to hit on this coaching hire.
