[Smith] But going with what Toronto needs and has, here are three names I like that fit and I think could be had: Obi Toppin, Tyus Jones, Khris Dunn. Not big splashes but all fill big holes.

Kris Dunn would be a good pickup, he’s rediscovered his 3pt shot over the last two years, still a solid defender, and a fine passer/playmaker, would probably cost less then the MLE as well.

Tyus Jones would be a great pickup as well obviously, but he more than likely wants a starting role and probably wouldn’t be interested in coming off the bench for a rebuilding team, I could see a team like the Spurs throw some money at him to be a starter, if not then, a number of contenders will be lining up, he’ll also cost more then the MLE, unless he prefers starting on a rebuilding team, the Wizards could just re-sign him and trade him down the road.

Obi Toppin is fine, his defence is horrendous, which wouldn’t help one of our glaring issues, he does offer decent 3pt shooting, as well as good finishing/rim pressure which is something this team also lacks, Indy will be facing a bit of a crunch soon in terms of contracts, so he could be gettable, he’d probably be a little higher then MLE range

  2. We aren’t just gonna assemble a team full of former Knicks players, are we?

The first target should be a 5th starter either at the 2 or 3 depending on who’s available. Maybe GTJ or Brown is brought back for that, but if not you gotta fill that spot first and foremost

Jalen Smith is essentially 1, 2, and 3 on my priority list. Stretch big with good size and at least average D who is the same age as RJ and can age with our core, with the talent to be in the 8-man rotation.

I was pissed they didn’t get him in the Siakam deal but we have a chance to get him now all the same.

*”What if…we became the Knicks in the late 10s? Surely, we’ll get better results than they did!”*

Btw Toppin is an RFA so good luck prying him away when the Pacers have cap space and incentive to keep him

  6. Feel like we can worry about this after the draft. I’d like to clear minutes for any young talent before signing any mid players to fill the bench.

Kris Dunn is one of them dudes we can sign if we don’t end up drafting a backup PG.

Only agree with Tyus Jones. The other two are bad.
