Are the Brooklyn Nets planning to overpay Nic Claxton in a big way?

There is more word out of the Brooklyn Nets front office that Nic Claxton is a major offseason priority and that could mean a contract coming near $25 million per year.

Is this the right number for the Nets’ center and would this be a good move for Sean Marks and the rest of the front office? It’s a tough question and the Nets find themselves in a tricky spot when it comes to free agency moves in the coming years.

The Locked on Nets take a deep dive into the Nic Claxton market and what a signing for this number could mean.

  1. From what I read today about this, Brooklyn can work the cap space situation to resign Claxton but a $25 million salary sounds outrageous because Johnson is already making $20 million plus and Simmons unnecessary $40 million is preventing Brooklyn from doing much this off-season already….

Hopefully it can be a contract with incentives so Brooklyn can have all of its cap space for 2025….

  2. The Nets creat there on problems because when you overpay Cam Johnson that creates a ripple where now Claxton who is clearly a better player should want more money than Cam Johnson, same will go for Cam Thomas and Bridges. When you incorrectly value players you then end up paying more up the line. Claxton is more like a 18 to 20 million guy BUT you paired Cam Johnson more than 20 million plus so now you gotta pay Clax. Cam Thomas should want 30 million per.

  3. Anyone watching the Nugs/Wolves game? Nugs are in trouble. Welp, Lebron is out of the playoff, so I got my wish. May be Nugs would trade the Joker for Nick Claxton?? 😂😂😂😂

  4. I’m no GM but if I’m Sean Marks I’m paying Nic between $23-$26 million. He deserves it and he’s not too injury prone. His play speaks for itself and he’s a pivotal part of this team. Period. All I know is Cam Johnson is WAYYY overpaid. Like wtf. He needs to get traded

  5. Unless they think we're winning in the next two to four seasons, just draft another center. He's 1 dimensional and not worth all that money, especially under the current circumstances.
