@Miami Heat

Pat Riley says there’s two or three critical players in this league who would get the Heat to “go for it, shoot the moon.” Otherwise, he stresses, this summer isn’t necessarily about adding a star. And he points out that of the eight tax teams — Miami included — six are done.

Whatever they need to do to put the team in a realistic place where they can contend, and, importantly, have a genuinely good regular season.

I smell “run it back” in the heat’s future and people will be okay with it cause they’re brainwashed by Pat

  3. oneofone305

If you’re gonna run it back then just trade Jimmy because you aren’t contending as is. Be prepared for Bam to get frustrated as well

  4. TorontoRaptors34

I can see why cuz u look at 3 trades that went for it and backfired

    Harden to the clippers
    Dame to the bucks
    Beal to the Suns

But i argue Beal on the Heat woulda been more successful

I take this as Pat doesn’t see this team as playoff/championship contenders anymore, but due to the cap and luxury tax the franchise is stuck in limbo. It’s going to be a year about growth for Jaime, Jovic and whoever we draft at 15.

Man Pat had 5 years to get this right , no reason why we shouldn’t have a ring in the Jimmy Era . 😒

  7. The Terry Rozier move was excellent. So many doomsdayers here that hates on FO, because we aren’t making the “whale” signings. Portland decided to be terrorists and destroy their future with a lackluster trade for Dame and Beal just handicapped Phoenix.

Our players need to step up and stop getting so injured, simple as that.

Bam still plays fearful and disappears on offense.
Jimmy was too lethargic this year
Herro hasn’t developed as we hoped, but hes still 23. Where were you at 23?
Duncan had a great year, but was injured during playoffs
JJJ proved to be the steal of the draft
Jovic is developing well, cant wait to see him more next year
Rozier is an excellent scorer which we sorely missed in playoffs.
Delon Wright was solid as 3 and D.

We lost too many basketball games and ended up in 8th seed without our two best players. Tough to upset the Celtics like that.
What we need is size, another DAWG (a PJ Tucker, Birdman, Haslem, heck even Derrick White) type , and injury free season.

    Win-now/worry-later mentality catches up.

The last part stands out to me. All the tanking teams are thriving and all the push-your-chips-teams are floundering. They ruined free agency so badly to keep those shitty teams assets locked up

  10. SudTheThug

he said adding a star is bad because we lost our bench depth but our bench depth a bunch of undrafted players

  11. Sounds like marginal moves but if Giannis, jokic or Luka become available, we’re gunning for it

Heat has always been a limbo team unless a whale come. We cant dump herro and rozier while their prices are rock bottom with their injuries. We’re so spoiled of success but im excited

I’m not opposed to running it back. If we had Terry, J Rich, and Jimmy we would have beaten Boston.

That being said we absolutely need a 5 that can defend and shoot 3s. Something like a Myles Turner would all but guarantee us a chip next year.

I would like if we got Spida though. Spida, Bam, and Jaquez future would be amazing.

I don’t really understand how cap space and pay sheets work on the NBA, can someone explain to me what does he mean by “out that of the eight tax teams — Miami included — six are done.”?

  15. brendamn

They need to let the guys rest more and not work conditioning so much

  16. Reksalp105

Would like to see Niko play 30+ minutes next year next to Bam as well as Terry be healthy and start. If you can’t move Tyler, he needs to slot back in as the 6th man role, but I don’t know what else this fanbase expects. Selling the farm for Mitchell seems shortsighted.

  17. pillowmagic

Spend like the Suns, win like the Suns. I don’t understand why Pat doesn’t get this! Let’s spend that money so we can win! SPEND! SPEND! SPEND! SPEND! /s

  18. No-Annual2948

They should ask Pat why we are so far over the salary cap with a mid roster….

  19. goatslacker

If we lost with a healthy team I’d be all about blowing it up but when we were healthy this was one of the more fun Heat teams. Gotta figure out our offense and yeah let’s add some role players, pray for health, and run it back.

  20. Competitive-Pass89

Heat can’t take down the twin towers with just bam. You need another big man so bam can play the four and be a draymond type(without the punches).
They need (I cannot stress this enough) people who can.score consistently which is why they need to rebuild around the youngins

  21. Fluid-Purpose7958

good god yall need to chill. “isnt necessarily about adding a star” doesnt mean “fuck you i will not add a star”. it means “i will not pursue a shitty trade for a star just to shut you guys up and then flame out like phoenix because of a weak bench”.

and he literally started by saying “changes have to be made in the way we do things”.

  22. msizzle344

It’s that same rationale that’s led us to running the team back and wasting everyone’s time again. We want a shoot for the moon superstar but we don’t:

    1) have the assets to trade for those players

    And

    2) pretend the assets we DO have are too good to trade for those players.

The reality is that they don’t want to pay tax. They’d rather sell dreams and culture to us stupid fans and make money that way

  23. Dramatic-County-1284

The contenders have depth. We don’t necessarily need a star to contend went to the finals with our core minus Herro. The injuries forced us to play old ass patty mills.

  24. HeatYourJets

Just make the roster make sense. The players are generally fine, we just need more size and less small forwards that are also shooting guards that are required to spot minutes at power forward

  25. Cudizonedefense

Running it back 3.0. Fucking kill me

  26. thedrizzle126

Some home games in the postseason would be nice, Pat

  27. phinsphan1313

Sick of running it back. Either make a move to contend for a championship or trade Jimmy and rebuild.

  28. avinash240

This has been the situation for years. The last time there was a player available they’d trade the farm for Kevin Durant was available.

However, he wanted to go play with Devin Booker.

  29. AdamSilverJr

Yeah let’s waste Jimmy’s final seasons running it back YET AGAIN

  30. orphan_of_Ludwig

I’m okay with not chasing stars anymore. Feels like it’s time to develop homegrown talent and focus on the future.

  31. We’re officially a middle of the pack team. Jimmy has declined quite a bit, so it doesn’t make much sense to spend real assets for minor upgrades. It’s basically impossible to build out of the middle when free agency is practically nonexistent.

Feels like were gonna need to take a step back and pick up some assets to make a move for that next guy. That or hope through some miracle one of our young guys/picks becomes a top 7 player like Jimmy was through 2019-2023.
