Malik Monk – Averaged 15/3/5 on 44/35/83 off the Kings bench in 72 games this season.

Monk looks to be a prime target for the Magic in free agency. It looks like the Kings max offer they can give to Monk averages to around 19.5M a season.

Monk played 72 games and has played above 70 games in his last 3 seasons. He is also just 26, early prime years so we could have yet to see the best version of him.

Looks like Coach Mose is also a fan of Monk – https://x.com/thebrettjames1/status/1771655781168918960

What do ya’ll think of taking a swing on one of the best 6th men in the league? What should he get paid and what would it take to make him leave the Kings?

Would much prefer him to Paul George or even worse, Klay Thompson.

Doesn’t your organization prioritize character? Monk’s history with drug abuse might dissuade them from adding him to your young roster.

I’d like to know though, coz I never really watched him on the kings, was he good against other benches or he was getting minutes against starters and closing games?

Give me Monk & Tyus this offseason. Maybe another vet for the rotation or depth. Run back most of the rest.

No thanks on Trae or Klay. I’m indifferent on PG. If this was 3-4 seasons ago, sure. But I like what Weltman said about preserving the teams DNA and signing players that buy into the Magic philosophy. Trae has baggage, Klay is on the wrong side of his prime and PG before this past season played no more than 56 games since the 2018/2019 season. Not good and it wont get better as he ages. Don’t wanna throw a lot of cash and years at him for a guy that will play as many games as Grant Hill did for us.

Based off salaries last season Malik Monk is one of the better bargains if we are simply trying to increase the # of 3PM on this team. He cost the Kings only $4.8 million per 3PM/G. Even doubling his salary from last year to $20 million. He would still be a pretty good value.

As far as what other pros and cons he brings I can’t speak to. But if Weltman wants to increase 3PM on the team, Malik Monk is one of the better options.
