If I’m reading this right, 18 voters had Wemby outside the top 3. They must’ve seen very different games than I did.

  2. 789Trillion

I really think people should be happy Victor ended up number 2. It usually takes voters a year or two to recognize someone’s defensive value and there are plenty of great candidates to choose from. If you want Wemby to eventually win, establishing baseline like this is good for voting in the future.

The fact that Wemby received 19 first place votes as a rookie. I’m settled

The fact that Wemby got so many votes as a rookie and with a team as bad as ours is a testament to how awesome he is.

People shouldn’t be disappointed at all, since it’s unprecedented for a player to win a MVP or DPOY award while their team is very bad, even if it’s not their fault.

congrats to rudy. The results seem about right. The spurs need ot focus on building a defensive minded team and need to win games. If not It’s hard to justify DPOY. second place is a damn fine result considerign how shit the record was and how bad the team is without him on the defensive end.

  6. The_Guerrilla

Thats a damn good result. Next stop, All Defensive First Team.

  7. LegoTomSkippy

Sabonis getting a third place vote and Shai getting two seconds is patently absurd.

I’d say SGA’s were from OKC homers, but those guys should at least know he’s the fourth best defender ON HIS OWN TEAM.

  8. ImpressiveSugar9287

Highway fucking robbery. People need to stop calling this an individual award because it’s not.

  9. Imaginary-Cycle-1977

Pretty cool that 20% of voters picked Vic for DPOY

I don’t think that happens w/o him closing the season so strong. He just kept doing insane stuff every night till people had no choice but to start the “should Wemby actually be DPOY?” discussion

  10. YourNonExistentGirl

All these voters will regret their choices down the line.

But a wise kid once said, “Let him win it now because after that, it’s no longer his turn.”

Good news is he is probably going to be the first rookie to make 1st team all defense. No shame in coming in second to Gobert, what he has brought to Minnesota in changing their defensive mindset is huge even without him they shutdown Denver.

  12. wondermayo

245 points is more than all the other players on the list combined (except Gobert, of course).

19 1st place votes as a rookie is insane.

  13. Dsarg_92

To get 19 votes for first place as a rookie is pretty outstanding. Wemby will have his turn soon.

  14. Level_Repeat_1271

Wemby got robbed and I will not be happy about it. Change the award name to Best Defender on the Best Defensive Team of year award

  15. DevilGunManga

19 voters are on the right side of history.

  16. I think wemby had the best take on this. It was something along the lines of “enjoy it now because after this year it will be mine”

  17. Bournerounderz

It’s impressive that Victor got 19 first place votes. Gobert was always going to win being the best defensive player on the #1 defensive team but for a rookie to actually get this many votes means the award is his starting next year as long as the Spurs show some improvement.

  18. thelunarunit

So that Rudy wins because he is so valuable on defense that his team held Denver to 80pts in the playoffs without him 🤔. The voters look like clowns.

  19. jeremyrvcc

How did Ad and bam get so many 2nd place votes?? Were these voters watching the same players

  20. rattatatouille

Unanimous ROY and second in DPOY. And only going up from there.

  21. ICouldEvenBeYou

How could anyone defend that Sabonis vote? That’s just fucking stupid.

  22. 1Sharky7

And those dang liburls want ranked choice voting

  23. Deadly_Davo

Absolutely amazing effort to finish second. He will become the first player in NBA history to make an all defensive first team as a rookie in a few days time. Was hard for him to win it over Rudy with a 22-60 season. I think had we got to 35 wins he would have it.
