Mike Trudell on Instagram: “Watching Minnesota’s defensive master class…”

in the first half of their Game 2 at Denver (second photo here) reminded me of the Lakers destructive defensive first half against Miami in Game 6 of the 2020 Finals when Frank Vogel started Alex Caruso alongside AD, LeBron, Danny Green and KCP. That team also featured Dwight Howard in other matchups (vs. Denver), on a roster with a great combo of length, athleticism, smarts and versatility.”

I had that same feeling. The wolves were absolutely swarming, same as the second quarter in game 6

Defense wins championships. The reason why the 2020 Lakers won it too with Frank Vogel.

We’ll see if the Timberwolves can finish it all.

They got crazy size and length and the Nuggets don’t have the depth to give anything different. It’s not exactly the same as what we did in 2020, but it’s pretty damn close. Man our series could have swung just on the availability of Vando and Wood.

While I loved seeing the wolves dominate the nuggets, it also kind of made me sad realizing how far behind we are. I just don’t see how Pelinka makes us an actual verified contender with our squad and assets.

People say this but then the fanbase would go insane if we got Trae Young for all of our depth. Would be nice for our front office to make some nice reasonable changes. We need a strong bigman that can play with AD or cover for him when he sits. That is where we should start.

The first comment on the post: “We literally had the blueprint and we blew it up for nothing 😭”

    🥲

Defense wins championships. That formula has never changed.

People got caught up with the warriors offense on the dynasty but the first 3 championships those teams were pretty crazy defensively. Prime Klay, livingston, igoudala, draymond, Bogut, McGee etc… the small-ball positionless basketball era is seemingly dying. Now its positionless with young, long athletic players and bigs who can score on all 3 levels. Evolution of basketball is crazy.

People talk about the 2020 team like it was all about length, but Dwight and McGee didn’t play in finals. It was more about Anthony Davis and Markieff Morris spacing the floor by shooting threes.

DG was admittedly was not the defender he once was at that point, but damn that lineup defensively puts the current one to shame. AD, younger LBJ, DG, KCP, AC, with Dwight and McGee as additional bigs? We were a damn good team.

I hope the wolves win so the lakers can get back to prioritizing defense

All I want to know is if the Celtics lose.

Lol I literally created a similar post of which got deleted. I compared the Lakers 2020 team with the current TWolves.
