  1. Full comment by Chris for the lazy:

“Teams are monitoring Chauncey Billups situation in Portland, league sources told @SInow. The Blazers are rebuilding and just parted ways with two assistants, including Billups’s brother, Rodney. If Billups/Portland split, Billups would quickly emerge as a candidate for other jobs”

I still doubt Billups goes anywhere until next offseason but one can hope lol

  3. “Finally, a chance to get in on this uninspired offense and 20 win seasons” – NBA teams

  4. If Billups leads a team to Flagg I’m gonna be mad

Him and Cronin definitely did not seem to be on the same page at exit interviews.

The problem is, Chauncey is perfect for the tank, and with this coming season being his last before his team option, he could get us on last hurrah in the lottery before we organically part ways with him.

If he gets fired now, we likely have to hire a coach who’s not only cool with tanking this year but also equipped to elevate this team to a competitive level in seasons to follow.

Maybe teams want him as an assistant? Why anyone would want him as a head coach is baffling…

If this happens, I wonder if Budenholzer would be open to coaching a youth movement. Let me dream haha.

  8. This is why I have thought a lot of Portland fans were dumb for calling Chauncey trash. Not saying the guy is some hidden gem of a coach but nobody has seen what he can actually do with the shitty ass rosters he has been handed. Players coach as well. Players love the dude. I actually just really hate the narratives around coaching as it is, shits annoying but you can’t say this guy has been handed any competent roster

Almost his entire main set of assistants besides Roy Rogers are gone. Them not bring back Brooks or Rodney Billups has to be pretty telling at this point. And with SI, Sean Highkin, and Danny all corroborating it seems like this is very true.

  10. I mean if LA wants to give us their first for Billups… lmao

Regardless of what you think of Chauncey as a head coach the fact that other teams may be interested in bringing him on shows that he has value.

Not every coach can get players to buy in the way Chauncey can. Also the group of guys may matter as well. He could be better suited for a group of veterans rather than a group of young guys.

Whatever happens I think he’ll finish his contract with us and move to a front office position because the way Cronin described his involvement in front office decisions. Making it sound like they’re preparing him for something like that.

Oh no! We can’t lose Billups! Whatever would we do?!..

  13. I love the idea of a lame duck season for Chauncy. Bring in a few young assistants who might reveal themselves to be HC candidates and keep the door open for Damon Stoudamire (only half kidding).

No one was going to win anything with the roster we’ve had over the last several years. The fact that Chauncey was able to maintain a positive locker room with all the players buying into his coaching, putting aside their egos, and building trust in each other as teammates over the last 2 seasons is almost a miracle.

The problem with this team is the youth and lack of talent on the roster. Unfortunately we still don’t know if Chauncey is a good or bad coach. This is like when everyone was calling for Stotts’ head, thinking he was why we weren’t winning. It wasn’t true then and it isn’t true now. Anyone who has strong feelings about Chauncey being this great or terrible coach right now actually has no idea. Also we’re a tanking team, so why are any of you even getting so fired up about the coaching? What you should be more concerned about is adding and developing talent on this roster. When we have a talented roster and are still losing, that’s when we should be calling for a coaching change.

In terms of coaching, what we need at this stage is someone who can help develop the players and create a culture of buy-in despite us being a losing team. It seems like that’s what Chauncey has done so far.

Let this play out. His agent could force a release – hell yeah.

Something to think about, but wouldn’t you assume Joe Cronin is wanting to choose his own coach? Billups is like the last remaining piece of the Olshey era.

I saw some random report that Chauncey got let go? I doubt it was real

grass isn’t always greener. i remember when people thought daigneault was a bum, now he’s coach of the year

Wish this would’ve happened before Brooklyn hired Fernandez. He was my ideal pick to coach our young guys
