[Charania] Indianapolis Police is investigating the incident between Patrick Beverley and a fan during Game 6 of Bucks-Pacers series; detectives confirm to me and @MikeVorkunov they are working with Gainbridge Fieldhouse to review video footage and plan to speak with the parties involved.

It was an assault, very little doubt about that. Like if I am walking down the street, and someone walks by on the other side of the road and says some shit I don’t like, and I respond by drilling him in the head with a basketball, I fully expect to be charged with assault if they want to pursue charges. There are VERY few circumstances where inflicting physical harm on someone is justified from a legal perspective when your immediate safety is not in jeopardy.
Athletes get waaaaaaaay too much leeway for assault and battery that occurs around the game.
