It Was a Mistake Letting The San Antonio Spurs Get This Steal
The San Antonio Spurs have a long history of turning overlooked picks into stars — Manu Ginóbili, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, Dejounte Murray, Derrick White… and now, could Carter Bryant be next?
From his high school 5-star hype to a limited role at Arizona, Carter slipped on draft night — but the Spurs saw what others didn’t. With R.C. Buford at the helm and a culture built on development, Bryant might just be the latest Spurs steal.
In this video, we break down:
• Why Carter Bryant slid in the draft
• How the Spurs have perfected developing late picks
• The Dejounte Murray trade domino effect that brought Bryant to San Antonio
Could this be another classic Spurs draft win? Watch and decide.

Good stuff. Haven’t seen enough of Carter yet. Hope they work him in early to see if he can be part of the rotation.
Fun fact guys the Spurs wanted Carter Bryant so bad that they initially made an attempt to trade up for him and nobody wanted to give up their pick 😂 They were actually shocked and celebrating when Carter fell all the way down to their 14th pick. It must of definitely had been ment to be, that kids gonna be a defensive problem with Wemby and Luke Kornet.
That would be great if Carter Bryant would develop into what the super optimistic Spurs fans think he will become right away, but from what I saw in LV Summer League he has some serious gaps in his game and probably would benefit from time in the g-league first followed by mainly garbage time minutes for an extended period. In the Summer League game against Dallas he shot very poorly(2 points I think) and his main defensive assignment Cooper Flag went around him with ease in the half court and scored 31 points. In one of the other games he had 7 fouls. He is too aggressive on defense and will have to dial it down a bit in the NBA. That's going to have to be in large part development of body-memory that's not going to come quickly.
Carter Bryant should be thrown into the briar patch like Tony Parker was. But if PATSFO doesn't get rid of Vassell's bloated contract – and trade Keldon, too – then CB won't get the 20mpg he needs to develop in his rookie season.
The days of RC Buford and Pop are over. GMgr Brian (Wrong) screwed up the 2022 draft. The last three drafts were no brainer picks. EYE could have done that.
If CB turns into the 3&D star Spurs fans need to thank Tommy Lloyd.
Thumbs Down for using the Lord's Name in vain. That is uncalled for.
nice content! i just hope the audio is better it's currently hard to hear
He is not yet ready for the NBA. Needs A LOT of time in the G-League. His shot is unstable, he can't create for himself, can't pass, and is too aggressive on defense. I want him to be the next Kawhi, but at the moment, he's simply not ready.
the nnba just want spurs to win another 20yrs
Trading Dejonte Murray and playing him as a star he isn't , but thinks he is.. well They played the hawks and dejonte.
Kawhi was picked 15th
My problem with CB is that he is complacent. He needs to be more involved right off the bat. If I advise him now, I would tell him to take the ball strait to the hoop to start the game (his minutes). The minute he walks on the floor, take the ball and jam it up his opponents throat. Even if unsuccessful. Why? Because, now they will be aware of him on the court and that relaxes their play on other players (open up their game). For example, Tommy Kramer and the Vikings used to open up every game with a long pass deep into the other teams territory. I mean a 50 yard heave. Most of the time it was unsuccessful, sometimes they hit it. The point was to stretch the defensive mindset and stretch the field. The next play was a 5 yrd pass that turned into 15 yrds.
Same thing with CB. He comes onto the court with his mentality of pass first, shoot last, and remain on the perimeter. Everyone expects that and backs off of him, guarding the other scorers (FOX, Wemby, etc) closer/harder. Well, I say PHOOYEEEE! I say, CB, take that ball and jam it up their throat aggressively. Very aggressively in fact. Now, they will think twice about who you are. CB should be doing that anyways. Take that ball and run to the basket and take the charge if necessary. But make it a hard charge into the bigs. Let them know that you are for real and your taking names. Big deal, one foul is one foul. BUT, that will open up the court from then on. I know, been there, done that. Problem with Spurs coaches is that they think the Spurs have to be nice and Spursey. That wont work in today's NBA. We need some NASTY, once in a while. Not all the time, just to start off and play with some aggressiveness. This team is young, they will survive and get tougher as the season progresses. GSG!
