Mavs fan here. While Dumont and Nico were the ones who orchestrated the Luka trade, Luka has not been seen showing any love toward Kidd after the trade. It's been reported that Kidd was frustrated with Luka's work ethic, which probably helped embolden Nico's decision to trade Luka. So, while Kidd may not have been the one to initiate the trade, many are speculating that Luka's coldness toward Kidd indicates another barrier to the idea of Luka returning to Dallas.

Stop blaming Nico! that trade came from the top Dumont didn't want to pay the Max to extend and told him to trade. Blame Nico for what he got back but he had to go clandestine otherwise revolt.

Cuban said the new owners “are not basketball people”. And why would people who are “not basketball people” buy a franchise in a town 1200 miles from home, where they’ve been fighting to legalize gambling, unless they plan was use the team as leverage for legalizing gambling. Somehow buying the Mavericks was supposed to fit into the goals of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.
But trading Luka was so stupid, the fans called them out. They responded with “Defense wins championships” and a smear campaign against Luka. What team trades their franchise player and then goes after him in the media? Dumont asking if the fans booing was for him confirms how out of touch the guy is. Of course they were for him, he just ruined the team!
I sincerely hope the NBA gives this ownership group a Las Vegas franchise. Just get them all the heck out of Dallas!
