First off ,, congratulations to Bam on scoring 83pts.
That being said, no true basketball player is honestly going to respect this record, and they shouldn't. The first quarter and first half in general, maybe even up with the end of the 3rd quarter, respectable. But what this performance turned into after the 3rd quarter was ridiculous from a basketball perspective regardless of how pathetic the opposing team was.
Bam scored 83pts on 20/43 fga, 7/22 3pts and 36/43!!!! Fga. He remained in the in the 4th quarter long after the game had been decided AND his team was doing everything they could to maximize his chances to score like fouling to stop the clock, prolong the game, maximize bam's shot attempts and cherry picking opportunities plus Bam was foul baiting,,, all this with the game already being decided by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Bam has 62pts at the end of the 3rd…
For perspective Here's some other similar scoring performances through 3 quarters:
Kobe Bryant VS Mavs: 62pts (entire Mavs team had 61) – subbed out at end of 3rd with the game already decided
Klay Thompson vs Pacers: 60pts in 29mins – subbed out at end of 3rd with game decided.
James Harden vs Hawks:60pts – subbed out at end of 3rd with game decided
If any of these scorers had remained in the game in the 4th, had their teams fouled to stop the clock and prolong the game, had they foul baited, cherry picked, chucked up as many shots as possible in the 4th, shot anything close to 43 free throws and then their teammates even intentionally miss free throws to get them extra chances, they too would have scored 83pts or more. But that's not how the game is played and that's not how it should be played.
These things are some of the reasons why 83pts isn't just 83pts and this performance will not be widely respected by some players and fans and in my opinion rightfully so.
Kudos to Bam, but this scoring performance became less satisfying and more difficult to watch in the end.

Regardless of how he achieved this remarkable feat, the man scored an astonishing 83 points. When you consider the reactions and comments on how he broke the record, it’s clear that some people are upset. While it was his achievement, records are meant to be broken, and this one was no exception.
Nerd sesh has to watch the entire game cause he's misinterpreting the first 70 points. The game was fairly close up until the Wizards' goal turned to "we're not letting Bam score," after that, the last 10 minutes was the actual "clown show."

The problem with basketball discourse is someone always have to be a contrarian. You rarely hear a player getting props for doing something incredible without hearing someone else diminish it. NBA fans don’t care about basketball, they care about storylines and narratives.

I think a lot of players could put up really high numbers, if a coach intentionally fouls and makes it so the player gets as many shots as they want

I hope this puts to rest the idea that Wilt Chamberlain didn't score 100pts. If Bam had played all 48 minutes, at the rate he was scoring he would have scored in the low 90s. Bam is not considered a prolific scorer, his previous career high was 41, so he doubled it. Wilt had scored over 70 twice in the previous three months. If Luka, Booker, SGA, or one of a half dozen others had scored 83, we wouldn't be freaking out about it as much as we are because it was Bam, who had averaged about five-six 30pt games over the past five seasons. Wilt, on the other hand, scored over 60 fifteen times in the 1961-62 season.

This record will only be acceptable if Bam suddenly becomes a great scorer for the rest of his career. People will assume this is the beginning of his dominance as a scorer. Otherwise it just looks like he got lucky with the help of his coach

The end of the game was gross lol. Bam was balling but the 4th quarter got nasty being up 20 and teammates fouling and missing shots on purpose. I can appreciate the first 3 quarters but the end was just a joke
