AURA DEFICIT: Nuggets Culture Needs A Course Correction

AURA DEFICIT: Nuggets Culture Needs A Course Correction

Denver Nuggets’ winning culture faces a crossroads as cracks emerge in their identity. Can Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray recapture the team’s lost edge, or will a lack of leadership doom their title hopes? Matt Moore evaluates how the Nuggets are winning games but faltering when it matters most, with alarming stats showing a drop in high-leverage performance and clutch-time execution.

Key insights spotlight the aftermath of Michael Malone’s firing, David Adelman’s more relaxed approach, and the search for a new vocal locker room leader. Discussion highlights include Jokic’s body language, potential roster shakeups, and ownership’s willingness to pay the luxury tax—so long as championship contention feels realistic. Is it time for a cultural course correction in Denver, or will stagnation force seismic changes to the Nuggets core?

  1. Matt, but why wouldn't they trade jok, mal and cam after this season? The prime, both mental and physical are gone, it really looks like they won't be able to pull out one more in next 5 years and their value is just going to keep droping. Take picks and some young players, ag is going to be great vet and start rebuilding… yes arena is going to be empty but better now, when you can get something than later, where you have to go through their last 5 yrs just coasting, without picks and talent to draft or sign. It seems less painful and somehow smarter.. btw, jok is badass as you said it, but I think he hates aggression and that type of shit on court, so he will avoid it as much as it is humanly possible then he will snap get tec and we lose… unfairness drives him nuts, and I think he simply cannot overcome that, which I understand, but also, I understand the argument that he should, in the end of the day it's part of his job… but would bet a lot that he simply won't, sadly… and why ag can't be the guy who holds them accountable, seems to be perfect for that role… same as jok, nature or something else? Good year Matt!! much love from serbia

  2. Your Favourite Lakers Fan here. So my team is where you guys should have been especially being more healthy. But something is clearly wrong with Denver. Jokic seems out of it, coaching are making some bad decisions. We have locked up the 3 Seed and are close to a 10 win streak. Like we are doing everything Denver should have. I'm gonna stay on this side and say good luck Denver.

  3. Adelman isn’t good at cutting off or saving momentum with time outs. And he had a tendency to leave line ups out there that are foundering and hemorrhaging points. I mean it’s been an ongoing issue all year. If we aren’t just plowing through a team or playing a competently coached team. Then you see the struggles.

  4. This is what concerned me the most losing Malone. They have no one to push Jokic anymore. He doesn't have the same respect for Adelman. Saw it end of last season when Jokic was giving Adelman instructions sometimes.

Also, Russ was a big part of the team culture last year. They never would have made it past the Clippers without him.

  5. Nuggets have alway been a little soft at times if we are being honest. Never had a 10 game winning streak during Jokic era. Jokic has thrown away many games over the years by refusing to to shoot or go inside–that is just a fact. The sad thing now is that lately Jokic has been everything his detractors say he was. But they have quit sometimes in the past too. That inexplicable loss to Spurs at end of year two years ago that killed their seeding. Laying down against Minnesota in game 7. Anyway, he and they just don't or can't want it enough to make them great. Don't get me wrong -Jokic is an all time great already but never going to be top 10 without actually winning more.

  6. I think it was uncle Jeff that pushed them too. That's why jokic loves him. Jokic looks depressed, morose, unkempt. He doesn't have the fire that was there before and is now gone. He just doesn't look like he wants to be playing honestly. Maybe it's a personal problem. Adelman isn't someone they're afraid of but just thought of as a peer. Someone has to call out jokic . Maybe it's his brother's? Wife? Idk . But someone has to light a fire under jokic's ass. It's affecting the team and how they want to win.

  7. They were losing these types of games for years now and it's simple. They don't trust their bench at all and expect from starters to uphold the same emotional and phisical investment on back to back games after winning against a good team. Picket, Strawther, Naji , Spencer and Kam would win this match. You can have starters playing as roleplayers this one game. have jokic come in from bench and play 18 to 25 minutes at best . rest murray.

  8. Maybe Joker is bored during the regular season. The game slows down once you've been in the playoffs and won the championship. I've heard players from the NBA to the NFL say how much the game slows down. He's probably going to go crazy as usual in the playoffs. Denver took OKC to the 7th game and had me, as a Thunder fan, sitting on the edge of my seat. I'm sure our teams will see each other in the playoffs. I never take wins for granted when OKC plays Denver!! 💙🧡💙🧡

  9. You can tell that most so called Nuggets fans in the comments were definitely not around in the late 90s

  10. Nuggets 2026-27 dream team 🏆

    STARTERS:
    Jamal/PWat/MPJ/AG/Jokic

    BENCH:
    Bruce/CB/GG Jackson/Rasheer Fleming/Ryan Kalkbrenner

    3RD STRING:
    Russ/KCP/Nate Ament (*2026 1st rd pk)/Uncle Jeff/DJ

  11. The Nuggets have been the least healthiest team in the NBA, combined w the absolute worst schedule I’ve ever seen! The number of one night “home stands” they had should really just be considered another stop on a road trip. These are just facts. Whether or not they can overcome these issues in the playoffs remains to be seen….

  12. It is simple. Their best player needs to be engaged and not casual and the rest will follow. Stop trying to flop and just lock in and these games wouldnt be close.

  13. Jokic is clearly tired of being fouled constantly and gets no calls, while on the other end, when ever he touches the opposing player the slightest, he gets called for a foul.
Adelman is so gutless and has no feeling for the game.. take a technical ones in a while!
Why doesn’t Denver organization also gets NBA attention on that matter.. Illegal defense is allowed on Jokic.. he gets worse defense than rookie players.
Jokic doesn’t have to have a star treatment by the refs, but just call the obvious fouls on him… and a lot and 1 not being called.. last game there were at least two and 1 he didn’t get…
Also, how can it be that Nuggets have such a more difficult game schedule than other teams.., especially other contender teams. So much more back to backs and traveling days..

  14. “The players genuinely bring a clear definition of return?”

If that is the case, KSE needs to hold the two frontcourt guys (one with 5+ years experience) making a combined $11M this season accountable.

The biggest hole on the team is a viable substitute behind AG at the 4. Both of these players are supposedly 4’s. Both have ample size and bulk (240 and 225 lbs). But both have been allowed to weigh down the team with their lack of energy, grit, fire and passion.

And all of you in the Nuggets press corps have let the coaches, front office and the two players off the hook on the black hole behind AG.

So no, the team doesn’t need to “move off” AG or Jamal. They need to send a message and move off these two stiffs, and the flotsam and jetsam at the end of the bench.

  15. Been saying it and will continue saying it. This team needs to see the Wolves to correct the horrors of '24. The game to clinch against the Spurs and how they started that series and game 7 broke their internal will. If they play the Wolves 1st round, I honestly see a totally different attitude and course correction. They need to mentally fix what they did in 24 in order to get right.

  16. Brother we don't need no cooling system adaptation like an antelope….we need a heating system to light a fire 🔥 up their …..

  17. If Denver somehow take 6th seed, we will go to WCF with OKC, they need to do that, rest all players who need rest. Doesn't matter this year if we play home or on side

  18. That’s what pissed me off so bad about the Malone firing. You can’t fire a guy for being intense and demanding the most out of you when that intensity and demand showed results. He made us so good. We took on his identity. He demanded perfection in the clutch and it annoyed me so bad that the players just got tired of hearing his voice. Now there is no voice and they look pretty identity-less. I mean, I’m glad the guys like DA but I’d rather put up with the annoying guy who makes us better

  19. Maybe Jokic is having drinking problem, he several time in the x and o’s podcast home much he like good drink
