There is a trend at play here that is so curious to me. Could it be that beating Connecticut is so exhausting (mentally and physically) that you have a hard time winning the Championship game if you beat them in the semifinal?
The only team that has beaten Connecticut in the semifinal and then won the National Championship is Notre Dame in 2001 and Notre Dame in 2018. Notre Dame has also lost 3 times in the Championship after beating Connecticut in the semifinal.
