Nikola Jovic REVEALS Problems with Miami Heat Offense–Has Spo’s New Offense Worked?

The Miami Heat rewarded Nikola Jovic with a contract extension after training camp but Jovic hasn’t played much this season. Is this a poor reflection on Jovic or the Heat’s new offense?

Wes Goldberg and David Ramil discuss Jovic’s lost season, his points about the offensive system and whether or not he needs a change of scenery before asking if Erik Spoelstra should continue running this radical offense beyond this season, or if it’s just a gimmick.

  1. It is simple, he is not Powell, JJJ or Fontecchio, a plug-and-play scorer. He is what he is, as you said a creative secondary playmaker Forward (not a center, not a guard). If Heat are determined to play a guard heavy small ball centric offence trade him, simple as that. Though this offense is doomed in the long run. It was shown on the Memphis last year, it was shown throughout the history (my first time observing it was 2010-11 76ers), smallball run and gun offense does not work against good defenses which result in playoff failure, I hope for multiple trades in the offseason..

  2. Jaime already said that his confidence has come from hard work with a shrink and smashing the fitness/ athleticism training and handling/ finishing drills all summer. Externally it looks like Niko has done none of this and continues to not do this, even though his play style would benefit hugely from it. Jaime as a a contender for 6th man of the year has shown him a formula for success that may help him.

  3. Jovic has been on the team for 4 years has never been a good player. He's a bust and whoever was behind extending him needs to go asap

  4. Jovic wasn't great in training camp. He's had the luxury of being on a team that has Pat Riley, who extended guys like James Johnson, Philly Cheese, Tyler Johnson, Duncan Robinson, etc. Since no other teams see value in our roster (thanks to Riley's bad roster construction over the past 12 years since he ran Lebron out of town), the Heat like all other bad teams end up overpaying bums.

  5. It should absolutely be the offense next year, you need to have time to buy in and develop in a system, can’t keep changing it every season.

  6. It’s hilarious how many excuses ppl make when it comes to Niko but when it’s Tyler folks are ready for him to be shipped to the Gaza Strip when he’s done WAY more than anyone on this roster outside of Bam .

  7. Watching the ppl cover the Heat is kinda funny because they act like they’re trapped in a wasteland and can just close their eyes and wish for a superstar to save them. A superstar isn’t here and isn’t coming, if every conversation about this team boils down to “well if they had a top 5 player… blah blah blah” then do us a favor and cover someone else.

  8. I’ve been said this he wants to go to Denver. I said this almost 2 years ago he doesn’t like the Miami system. He rather play in Denver.

  9. I don’t like his excuse making, but man do we need to get him through this. I think the Heat have a shot at making a big step forward next season if we shed Powell (maybe Tyler as well), hit on our draft picks, and get Niko back to playing well.

I think Spo is potentially the worst coach for him, if not one of the worst, so I don’t feel great about it. I think he brings out the worst in Niko with how he coaches, and I’m not even criticizing Spo for that. Niko needs to handle adversity much better. He needs to build as much strength as possible and work tirelessly on his finishing at the rim this offseason. Those 2 things will unlock his game more than anything.

  10. That's bad coaching! Spo and this staff have this thing where they need to test these guys in practice. So he doesn't play Niko & Ware! There's no Heat culture it's a losing culture! They need minutes to get better. Especially Ware!

  11. It amazes me with how sweet and kind you all are when talking about Jovic. Jovic is terrible. He’s such a mediocre player. He’s soft as wet toilet paper. 6’10 but plays like he’s 5’10. He has never been a consistent player to have ever been given a contract.

I find it funny that u all are sooo hard on Ware that’s only in his 2nd year but this scrub Jovic is in his 4th year and u give him the benefit of the doubt. He’s not good at all. Mentally fragile.
