Believe me there have been many worse choices.
You overlooked the fact that Jordan said he would not play for Portland.
They didnβt need a guard and had a future HOFβer at the position so it would have made no sense to take Jordan.
Always always always take talent over fit. You can make talent fit, and if not turn them into trade value. If you draft someone for fit and they don't give you talent, you end up with nothing.
Although this is probably easier in the modern day NBA work positionless ball.
