The Detroit Pistons have been disrespected all season long.
Before the year started, most power rankings had them sitting around 15th — a solid but unspectacular middle-of-the-pack team. But that narrative didn’t hold up for long.
Just 11 games into the season, Detroit grabbed the No. 1 seed in the East — and they never let it go. Even when analysts gave them credit early on, there was always the “but I don’t think they’ll finish the season as the No. 1 seed.” attached. Yet here they are, finishing the season as the No. 1 seed in the East.
Injuries hit this team hard too, including extended absences for some of their best players throughout the season, but they kept winning anyway. No excuses. Just results.
When Cade Cunningham went down with a collapsed lung, the narrative flipped again. Stephen A. Smith was already calling it for Detroit, saying they were “done.” But Cade is back right in time for the playoffs. Cade looked solid in the few games he played in since returning — certainly more conservative than what you’d expect from a player of his caliber, but that’s likely intentional and just him being cautious in games that really didn't matter. With another week to rest up, there’s every reason to think he’ll be ready to kick it into another gear come playoff time.
Detroit has been doubted all season and answered every challenge. This is a legitimate contender. I’ve got the Pistons coming out of the East, or at the very least making it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Either way, it’s time to put some respect on their name.

First it was Boston will be the number 1 seed, Detroit would be 4th seed, then Cade is down, we won't win 3 games without Cade and lose the 1 seed, Stew was out too. We beat just about everybody with Cade and Stew out, now we will struggle in the playoffs because lack of experience, but San Antonio will be better. A bunch of Ban Wagoneers. No doubt, the East is deep, with great teams. But Detroit been consistant with and without our key players. Its DetroitvsEverybody
