Russ should come back & he is a quiet teacher & all new players still know him & want to play for Russ
Russ should get resigned. Listen to Christian Braun from Denver talk about Russ and his time playing with him. He explains it pretty well. Not only was he a great mentor, he also raises the level of competitiveness and game time intensity. Braun talks about how good Russ is, and that when he(Braun) got injured, he knew he would have to earn his spot back because Russ is always ready. Braun talks about how Russ wasn’t even getting consistent minutes before he got injured, but when Braun went down for 10 games, Russ almost averaged a triple double after not getting consistent minutes. Russ is a true professional. He’s always ready. Everyone around the NBA knows that Russ brings it 150% every night. So if a guard gets injured or loses their spot in the lineup for whatever reason, they know Russ is there to take those minutes because of his consistent effort and intensity. Young guys need someone like Russ to learn how to be successful professionals. The young guys need to earn it to some extent because it’s a healthy way to promote growth and maturity from our younger players. Russ helps create a winning culture in that way!
Then look at how Maxime developed in the Pick N Roll this year while playing next to Russ. Thats also very real! If you resign Russ for no other reason but to continue to develop Maxime, that’s enough for me. Give Russ the mid level exception. He’s worth it.
